  • Take a tour of one of the most impressively-built Land Rover Defenders we’ve ever seen. The custom-built vehicle features both hot and cold running water, an insulated roof top tent, and supplies for comfortable travel in any climate.
    Built and customized by Shane and Sandra Young of Aussie Expeditions, this 2006 Land Rover Defender D110 was designed with world travel and exploration in mind. We ran into the couple at the 2017 Overland Expo East and got a tour of their rig to find out what went into the build (which, it turns out, was quite a lot). Shane and Sandra’s passion for travel and cultural immersion was the motivation behind the project, and the two agreed that land-based travel was the best way to accomplish their goals. Their Land Rover is fully equipped for survival in just about any circumstance - from rain and mud to snow, ice, and hot summer temperatures.

    Man you have done a brilliant job and should be so proud. As for those people that have left unnecessary and negative comments about you and your truck, they could not ever have built what you have. I think there are two kinds of people in the world, the jealous who never do anything except criticize, and then those like yourself who quietly achieve. I sincerely hope you and your wife enjoy your travels and that they are safe..

      hahaha great retort. Struggling to see why this video is copping so much negativity. Will be looking forward to seeing how your adventure progresses.
      Still struggling with the reply to an earlier critic, though: "Wife said she's never seen me so rigid...lol.." Haha it is not required that you share everything on a vlog.
      Happy travels.

      Karl studioredcloud.com It’s probably a very good idea, we Australian’s are pretty well regarded around the world but Americans are often not, especially in somewhere like Cambodia or the Middle East for instance.

      @@jamessveinsson6006 I’d rather be in this than than some wannabe army thing that’s just a target in dodgy places around the world. 2 things you want to avoid in a world traveller, being mistaken for Army and UN. I travelled in various parts of the world in a red truck bigger than this, nobody gives you a second glance.

    It really is a 130... I was really nervous in front of the camera...wife says she's not letting me in front of a camera again unless I have a couple of drinks first..then ya can't shut me up...:).. my other trucks are 110s and I'm so used to formerly chatting about that...

    Sooo many armchair expert comments on here I'm just reading...:)... we have done over 15k miles on this truck just in the trial runs, we will be embarking off to the U.K. In a couple of weeks, our last truck we travelled all of North America up to prudhoe bay etc with over 40k miles and deciding what I did and didn't want out of the next build..and this is the culmination of those ideas. In tsponse to what happens if I roll it onto its right side..yes, I have considered that and as such I keep a small contingency of recovery straps etc in the top box and have a second high lift jack on the front bumper...hopefully enough to allow me to get it up enough to access, I also carry a drill and I could drill the rivets on the top inge and remove it that way..drastic to be sure but drastic times call for drastic measures.

      Good on ya, mate. Critics rarely come from a point of actual experience and, more often than not, their comments are typically borne of a weird combination of inertia and jealously.

    • @andrewharwood6901
      @andrewharwood6901 7 років тому +5

      the rear wheel on a 110 is almost directly behind the angled door line on the rear door, the extra length of the 130 is in this section.

    • @UAPJedi
      @UAPJedi 7 років тому +1

      Andrew Harwood Yup 130 but also there is increase length behind the rear axle.

    In response to the comments about reliability etc..I was very apprehensive about using the td5 based vehicles, but they have been around now long enough to know the common failure points in them and to be honest...every truck breaks...take care of the wiring harness oil, fuel pressure regulator and they really are a good engine..we just did over 5k miles in 2 weeks mostly at 6k feet elevation and not a single problem or drop of oil used and averaged 18mpg.. in reply to infinite water, I meant hot water when connected to stream or hose..

    • @checa160
      @checa160 6 років тому +1

      Not a drop of oil? Land rover? No oil inside.🤣
      Listen to the Land Cruiser owners. They will tell you the same. They know.
      I didn't know about my td5 discovery and those guys told me there wasn't oil inside for sure and the car would brake parts and have lots of failures almost every weekend...
      Thanks to the stars and the planets I have some kind of phantom neighbour who fixes my car every night so I can believe the only issues I've had, in 230000kms on highways, roads, cities and several kinds of off road terrains, was a worn clutch, a bit of "seal noise" in the primary gear shaft spacer, "rebuilt" inner roof, 2 weeks of "3 amigoes" and a waste gate axle apart from oil changes, filters, a set of brake pads and one of the horn buttons starting to "almost jump out of place" when I hit it too strong.
      Still the EGR connected, stock injector harness, original wabco valve, original "destroyed" but working keys...what else?
      In the other hand, I've seen some head gasket changes in diesel 2.8 patrols and some alternator changes in modern Land cruisers, among other failures.
      So: or I'm really wrong, as the toyota guys say, and those cars never break(so I've seen allucinations or something similar),
      Or toyota and nissan owners will never recognise their cars cost more than twice as much in fuel, parts, failures and mechanics to fix that all. And they break as well...
      Awesome 120 mate. Enjoy it despite the envyous comments.
      Cheers

    My wife and I went from Glasgow to Delhi in India and the whole journey I did not even have a puncture, a top hose blew in Turkey and apart from normal maintenance, nothing else broke. We went in a Series 11A with camping gear and a roof rack that we often slept on. The worst part of the whole journey was southern Yugoslavia. Iran was possibly the friendliest place and back then women in Kabul and Iran were wearing Western clothes and mixing with Westerners.
    Sadly that is a thing of the past now.
