Prices of Rolex are best in Japan. And shopping with peace of mind that fakes are illegal is just awsome. Got two Rolex and an IWC at Best Ishida in Shinjuku
Just came back from holiday in Japan. Bought Mrs a Datejust and for myself a Sea Dweller. Please as punch compared to Rolex watches in Australia. The favourable exchange rate is a bonus.
There's savings to be realized by purchasing in Japan, but what about when the purchaser goes back to his/her home country with the watch? The purchase value would definitely exceed the max. exemption allowed. For Canada, it's like $800
Very good review. I’m from Brazil and pretend to go on December. Do I have the 10% disccount because of the tax free? All the stores have this tax free? Thanks
You're almost certainly going to get a legit piece, but I've always thought they had outrageous prices. Also, they often only deal in modern, newly-flipped, watches.
@@watchsymposium thanks for the insight. So if you're looking for something relatively new, those places may be a good option. Though from your videos in Nakano, it is possible to get new models for a more reasonable price. I've been to one Don Quijote store in Osaka last year, and I don't recall there was much variety in models and dials compared to the ones you've shown in your videos
Btw Austin You said about best place to buy Rolex? I can tell about one of the WORST. As a warning ⛔️ to all, think twice before you buy anything on auction (Christie’s Sotheby’s etc) They have amazing watches but the trick is in fees. Just got Sub Hulk there. Amazing 🤩 just 22k CHF. Then you add fees, provisions, taxes, duties, VAT etc etc and you arrive at 30k easily. Finally you wish to have your watch on your hand so auction house offers you shipment for just 1000 EUR 😂 I am serious here. I took my own shipment 📦 company but still some costs (not all of them) surprised me
Hey, just found you, thanks for the great content. Do you think I could get a Yacht Master Oyster, 40 mm, Oystersteel and platinum from an AD in Japan? If not a fairly new used one.
Austin, I still believe Hong Kong is best place to buy watches, in particular Rolex. There are over 70 dealers out there. Tokyo is good like in Nakano but the concentration of watch dealers in HK for a small city is difficult to beat. What do you think?
I've never checked out Hong Kong, but I imagine the selection is only one aspect. One of the things that makes Japan a nice place is the culture. The politeness, respect, and trustworthiness of the sellers can't be beat.
When you say all you need is your passport, Austin... what happens if it's got a residence visa in it? Will they check and charge you the tax? I'm moving to Tokyo shortly...
Nah, you have to be a tourist. I've always wondered what the shops would do if I handed them my passport. Even if it worked, and I got the tax off, I'd be looking over my shoulder for months after that. And I'm pretty sure someone would track me down eventually!
Really useful set of advice you shared, especially on Japanese web page to check on watches. But there is a trick as Rakuten is in Japanese ;) Any idea how to move around this web page without knowing the local language? Many thanks
Good question! (I should have mentioned that in the video.) You can highlight the text and copy it (Ctrl + C), jump over to another window with Google Translate open, and paste it (Ctrl + V). Sometimes the translation is a little weird, but you can get the idea.
Please don't give away the secrets of Japan, Austin. Not looking forward to see tourists stream back here. And please note that any American tourists who buy tax-free still need to claim the watch at USA customs in the USA airport and pay duty when they return to the USA.
That's why I am here. From my research it appears you pay 4.5%. Can you confirm this? Looking for a watch on chrono24 for $8,000. So I pay the 7% sales tax from chrono and add 4.5% for the import?

Ticket to Japan booked for December. Fingers crossed the country will fully reopen by then.
This is why your the best at it.

What's a good place to buy Rolex in Fukuoka?
Hey Austin, I really liked this episode!
Thanks man!
Well informed clip,Austin🇦🇺👍

Do you think you can make a video on where the best places to buy second hand watches are? (: I'll be in Japan in January
They grey stores, do they increase prices as yen weakens ?
Hi I’m coming to Tokyo and want to meet you as I’m hunting for something special and I would love to have you on my team!

No Japanese website for the watches?
Where in exactly in Japan (district or area or prefacture) are the best places/areas for Rolex (brand new or pre owned)?! Thanks man! Love ur channel!
There are a few places here in Tokyo, but you definitely want to hit Nakano: ua-cam.com/video/7m6MLpb17XY/v-deo.html
Hi I am going to Osaka in Nov which should I go to buy Rolex or should I try ad Rolex shop
I know this is a year old, but what are your thoughts on buying Rolexes from Don Quijote, BIC, or Yodobashi Camera?
You're almost certainly going to get a legit piece, but I've always thought they had outrageous prices. Also, they often only deal in modern, newly-flipped, watches.

Hi Austin Does the inflation in Japan have a great impact on the grey market there to make up the loss of exchange rates?

I am definitely noticed Japanese market pieces, compared to US dealers, are indeed significantly cheaper.
3:53 austen considering if he wants to risk mysteriously vanishing 😳
Thank you for the tips! Already got my Japanese Visa and set to go there 🇯🇵
Good luck!!
@@watchsymposium hi, I have a question though, are the Rolex watches being sold at SuperBazaar Bookoffs genuine? Thanks again!
@@funky_frankyfunky_franky704 I don't know - I'm not familiar with that store.

A YM would be pretty hard, if not impossible, to find at an AD here. You'd find plenty of them on the grey market, though, for a premium.
Thank you for the video, Austin. Are the display cases at Rolex ADs empty?
When it comes to men's pieces, the only thing you can expect is something involving precious metal with diamonds on the dial and/or bezel. That's it.
@@watchsymposium Thanks! So same with other countries.

Probably more visitors going to Japan over HK

Yes

USA still leads amazing
150 is back baby 😅
Best place is at your Rolex AD and at retail price.
Great stuff Austin. I will call you and we can go shopping together!
Sounds good, Shamba!
These days, anywhere but the AD.
36mm looks better on most women than 28mm imho.

Just wear it home
