I was in a few different Bookoffs last year and patience and luck can pay off. I visited the Bazaar stores around Tokyo. None were as good as the selection in your video but were still super fun. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thanks for watching. I've visited some in and around Tokyo + Osaka too and I think because those areas are more populated and see more tourists, the interesting pieces and the bargains don't last too long. This location in particular does have more than average too which is nice
Makes sense. I revisited some of the Tokyo stores and some stock turned over quickly so it pays to revisit regularly. It's fun too. I have now subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching past and future videos. I lived in Japan too and it brings back happy memories.
Also, will you explain the best methods of payment for visitors and tourist in Japan purchasing watches such as Visa or MasterCard? Also, I've heard that tourists do not have to pay taxes on watches that they purchase regardless of the number of watches or overall purchase price total. Will you please explain these details thank you so much.
Wow, I'd love to watch shop in Japan. Here are some cool ones I noticed in $USD - Seiko Gray Willard for $745, Seiko Pepsi Sea Urchin for $150, Seiko 7548 quartz diver $230, Citizen Chronomaster $1650, Frogman 30th Ann.$540, Riseman $40, Bulova Devil Diver $320, Hamilton Ani-digi $230. Lots of cool JDM digitals. I love the Lord Matic you picked out. I'd love to find a birth year ('69) Seiko like this one.
I just found your channel. Great video. At the 10 second mark in your video you mentioned the best secret for shopping watches in Japan. Which city is it or stored as I'm planning a trip soon thank you so much. I'm actually looking for Credor watches. Help?!?!
Nakano tends to have more high end stuff but I'm sure if you hunt around there you can find some. For more stuff like this I'd probably recommend looking in areas outside of nakano. Look for bookoff locations and check the Google photos to see if they have a section with watches before you head there. Akihabara will probably be picked over but I've heard they have a decent range in random second hand shops there too
Good video! I used go there often till 4 to 5 years ago. I might going there next weekend, then. I found and bougt Nomos Orion 36 mm fully serviced at a price of 98,000 JPY at another BOOKOFF Super Bazaar in Okazaki some three years ago.
Don't have a lot of experience hunting in those areas. I find it best to look for bookoff "bazar" or "super" locations as they're generally bigger stores so more chance of finding a larger range of watches
@@addicted_to_watches have you ever seen any Hajime Asaoka higher end watches in person? I see them in articles but have no idea where they are sold. I don’t speak Japanese nor can I afford one but I wanna see one in person one day😅
That's a good question 🤣 I usually look for ones with the "Super Bazar" name because they are the bigger stores with lots of items. That doesn't guarantee watches though
Im here in Japan till 20th but i really wanted to get there and get one but unlucky i didn't manage the ticket train as in super crowded any chance how can i order the watch?
There are lots of bookoff locations around Japan so hopefully there is one closer to you. I don't know of any way to order watches, you just have to visit the shops
I don't have much experience with the ones in Tokyo but from what I've heard, popular places like Akihabara aren't worth checking generally because they've been picked clean already. Look for "Bazar" or "Super Bazar" locations and if you check some of the Google review images you can usually see if they have any/many watches
I'd say these prices are fairly standard. If you're in Tokyo try Nakano Broadway. Most shops there have modern Rolex and omega, but there are some interesting little vintage shops tucked away too
Im off to Japan in a couole of month's. Dping my research on watches . Can you tell me what is this name of the shop and when i would possibly get the best deals here. Any suggestions how should i go about shoping for best deals, such as what tome of year, which shops specifically? Many thanks for.your video learnt a lot..
Often it's just luck finding the best deals. Second hand is the way to go at places like bookoff and 2nd Street. Just go into every shop you see and have a look 😅
2:36 SBDC181 is actually a Willard(not Turtle) collaboration with Helly Hansen, the Norwegian clothing manufacturer. 6r movement, not the 8L. Also the next watch is also a Willard. They look very similar. Crown guard is much more pronounced on the Willard. It's even said that the Willard is the(Og Turtle) 6309's daddy in the chronology.
Thanks for the info. I don't know a whole lot about them because I'm not a huge fan of the shape but can appreciate it for what it is and its significance.
I was a few days ago in Japan to buy Watches - No, all prices are fixed. The most parts of this Video were filmed in book-offs. In Japan you can never talk about prices. A absolut No Go. These Shops are No bazaars...
Good to know Bookoff sells higher end watches i've been eyeing out a GS or a Citizen Chronomaster for a while now, maybe i ca luck out and find one when i got to Japan.
The larger locations will generally have some. In particular you can look out for bookoff plus or bookoff bazar locations for a better chance of finding one
I just saw a Full Metal Blue Camo G-Shock Square (GMW-B5000TCF) for 90000yen. I think that's about $560 right now. That's not bad, especially if the watch was kept in good condition.
Tx for the video, you skimmed passed a speedmaster I would be interested in. How long ago did uou shoot this video? Which towns branch did you go too? Shot G
Just came back from Japan and went everywhere looking for a watch, except Bookoff. Something to explore for next time. Ended up getting a 60th anniversary grand seiko from Watchian
@sympathic21 it really depends on what you're looking for. I think most stores have rolex, there are a lot of smaller stores with antique watches. You can treasure hunt by searching google maps in the area you're staying in
i really enjoyed your video. Im headed to Tokyo in march . Id really like to get a grand seiko but im not sure my budget allows it. Id be willing to spend 4k max. Any suggestions?
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! For 4k (I'm guessing usd) with the exchange rate at the moment you should have plenty of options new and used. If new, look at somewhere like bic camera and either get tax free or sign up to their points program for 10% store credit. Second hand you can check out Nakano Broadway which has a lot of shops to browse.
It really depends on your preferences. My picks would be: Quartz: SBGX341 (used), SBGP009 (new) Mechanical (used): SBGR087, SBGR053, SBGR001 Spring Drive (used): SBGA085, SBGA469(my favorite), SBGA203 You might have to hunt around to find some. You can also check places like Komehyo, 2nd Street and other chain stores
The commentary is okay but the filming is so bad. Out of focus and too fast. Might as well just use a GoPro or Insta360 then reframe the video... Getting a headache watching
If I went slower I'd have been there close to an hour and those reflections didn't help with focus but appreciate the feedback and if I go back will keep it in mind 👍

Thanks for watching! It might be tricky getting to this shop from Tokyo. This one is in Sakae, Nagoya so you'd need to get the bullet train there and back. There are plenty of other bookoff locations in Tokyo and other shops too. Look into somewhere like Nakano Broadway if you haven't already
Awesome! I've been waiting for someone to post something like this, thank you!

This one was in Sakae, Nagoya
Thanks, might want to add the location in the description for others to find easily. Cheers on those two G-Shocks, excellent finds!

Nice place to buy something interesting! Thanks🤝
Thanks for watching. You can definitely find some more interesting pieces compared to the big department stores and bic camera/yodobashi
Are these prices common at other stores around Japan? I'm going in May and hope to find some affordable vintage Rolex/omegas, cheers
I'd say these prices are fairly standard. If you're in Tokyo try Nakano Broadway. Most shops there have modern Rolex and omega, but there are some interesting little vintage shops tucked away too
Thanks mate 👍
I wonder how they sources their watches. Do you just walk in and sell to them?
Yep. Bookoff is a buy and sell shop. They have people walk in all the time to sell stuff. They don't pay particularly good prices to sellers though

How do you know the watches are authentic?
Japan is pretty strict with fakes and bookoff inspects watches before they buy them so it would have to be a pretty good fake to get past them
@addicted_to_watches thanks, boss
I would pick something from the Casio Oceanus or Lineage line with Waveceptor technology 😊
Can't go wrong with any of those!
@addictedtowatches9458 Yes, we are so lucky in the Netherlands to have great reception from the German DCF77 radio tower in Mainflingen.

Not this time but they pop up every now and then
@@addicted_to_watches thank you for your response 🙏
This was exactly the video I was looking for! Did you find any Cartier Tanks in the Bookoff stores? Or are those mostly in Nakano?
I did see some but they were all the very small women's sizes
The prices at book off for watches aren't very good though.
Not all of their prices are great but if you spend some time looking I think you can find some good deals
Can we order them outside Japan?
Unfortunately not. They don't have an online store or ship internationally
Where was this bookoff located?
Sakae, Nagoya
Would it be possible to know the location? I am going to Japan next week
Sakae, Nagoya
No address mentioned and how to find this shop in Japan !!
If you listen at the beginning I say that this shop is in Sakae, Nagoya. There's only one Bookoff in that area 👍

Yep, no negotiating but if something sits there long enough they might discount it like that 10% off sea urchin
All the bookoffs I've been in were only books, but there is 2nd Street, Treasure Factory, probably many more too.
Yep, big fan of Second Street too! Haven't tried any treasure factories though.....yet 🤣
