I love how Achilles genuinely cares about the Greek soldiers, and is visibly in despair as he witnesses idiotic commanders essentially sending them their deaths.
Totally
Odysseus is the only Greek commander demonstrating any real leadership on the battlefield.
Yeah you can say that but only to a certain degree... If he really did care about his fellow Greeks.. then he would have joined the battle and now let his pride getting away...
@@achilles9448it was not his pride. It was the king. Even when he speaks to Priam. He tells him that he was the king he would have followed and respected.
@@epicpandachris7281 Agamemnon was a total ass for taking Briseis like that lol
Achilles might have been a better warrior, but Hector was by far a better soldier.
Actually Hector was a better warrior, but some of the gods didn’t let him win. They reference it in this movie when Hector fought Achilles one on one and it looked like he stabbed him before he fell over a stone.
@@sergiovillanueva630 im not sure where your getting this from bro. The whole character of Hector was all about how gods were to be believed in the sense of an ideology, not as a an actual intervention. He wrestled with the king about this, not to stake the war efforts on signs from the gods, but what they had there and then in physical form, with physical strategies.
Gods had nothing to do with the fight, Achilles just straight up killed Hector because he could.
@@coreymoxon6428He'a getting it from the actual Illiad not the hollywood film.
@@sergiovillanueva630 Hector was a major coward in the actual Iliad - go read it. He tried to flee Achilles, who chased him around the city three times as Hectors men look on in disgust at their "leader"
@@Nick-zb4yg yea ofc it's very brave to go fighting with an invulnerability enchantment on your body.
Credit where its due, this remains the best Bronze Age battle ever depicted on film .
@fludblud Check out the Battle of Gaugamela in Alexander
@@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- Gaugamela was Classical Antiquity, almost 1000 years after the Trojan war.
To put things in perspective, the Trojan War was so old, Horses were not even big enough to carry an armoured soldier back then, hence why they used chariots.
Eh.......Bronze Age, what little we do know of it, was more focused on chariots with few hard-hitting infantry formations. Chronologically, the Trojan war is recognized to have occurred in the Bronze Age. The equipment, costume's and methods here are more reminiscent of Iron Age battles.
Especially with a lack of chariot's and armies so large. At least....for Mediterranean Bronze Age armies. A central-European case is a whole different story. Look up the Tollense Valley.
@@geoffreyedgson7875 Chronologically, the Trojan War did not happen.
@@RenegadeShepTheSpacer Chronologically, it is difficult to place with the narratives of the epic, with multiple theories and different archaeological collections and artefacts to support them.
Today, it's more a matter of "which" Trojan war. Excavations at Hisarlik (Widely accepted as the site of Troy/Ilius, take you pick), include multiple destruction phases, graves, and even Earthquakes.
More likely, several conflicts or disaters occurred there, which over time were re-told and adapted by thousands of different people into a structured narrative.
Honestly, trying to use movies like "TROY" as a reference for a real event sparks so much debate and disagreements. But movies, stories, poems and more are only fresh versions of a heroic war story. It's a lot easier and more fun to enjoy "TROY," "Fall of a City," "The Song of Achilles," and more as legacies of a single story; not cross-compare them against archaeological and historical facts.
I never noticed a 2:21 that Hector brought his shield in time to protect the other soldier that ajax threw to the ground with his hammer.
7:05 I love how Hector knows the Greeks wouldn’t have done the same yet he doesn’t care because he is the better person
yeah exactly, he is a better loser, it's better to be Achilles than Hector in real life, loser
He is the epitome of a good prince and future king! He is a phenomenal fighter, but his honor outdoes everything else.
An army is a reflection of their leaders. It shows how the Greeks were in ways more barbaric than the Trojans. How they reflect acammendmon. Minus. Achilles and his little faction of troops.
One thing I really enjoy is how reminiscent the Trojans are of the Romans. Like the Romans, the Trojans are clearly a professional force with uniform armor, they use long shields and they fight by chucking javelins and then closing with swords.
I feel like it's a nice intentional callback to the Roman myths around their claimed descendancy from Troy
Exactly I noticed that too
Trojan survived and did go to Italy after Troy fell.
One of Hector's commanders used the known Greek strategy. That is how Rome was built and created thousand of Romans first. To train soldiers to become smart.
They were prepared for Greek. For a long time. Trojans finally have their revenge for their home and their people.
@@johnnyavalos9109sources? Sounds like you pulled that out of your @ss
It's a myth created by Virgil. Romans do not descend from trojan refugees, Rome was founded 500 years later the hypothetical fall of Troy

Troy: The Director's Cut is one of the best movies I've ever seen.
But they butchered the music!
@@billsykes2977 yeah the fight with Achilles and hector should’ve gone with the original music
This is one of the GREATEST scenes in any historical movie which demonstates and proves how LETHAL, DEVASTATING and EFFECTIVE the archers can be! Standing on top of the walls, with no one threatening them or being able to reach them, firing thousands of arrows again and again and again until NO soldier of the enemy's army is left standing! Seriously, when the use of archers is done smartly and effectively, they are the DOOM of any army!
Yes but in thie scene too many people die, it is unrealistic
@@OnimesShow Why unrealistic? There are countless archers on the walls of Troy. By firing at least 10 times each, isn't it natural that they kill a lot of people?
@@GregoryPane it is unnatural that soldiers don't cover their heads with those big shields while they advance
@@OnimesShow It is not so easy to run so fast and keep such a heavy shield above your head at the same time. If they were stable and didn't cover themselves, you would be right. But they run and have their minds on the trojan infantry in front at the same time. They can't have their minds on the archers too. Besides, they are not such expert fighters like Achilles and Hector. They are just common soldiers. You can't expect from them to be so skillful in combat!
@@GregoryPane this again is unrealistic, noone would run fast as a drunk idiot, they are human, they would advance slow, stick together, cover..these scenes of them running fast without covering and dieing are really stupid. Also, even if you want to run, as soon as the two armies clashes everyone would be very close, without space to keep running forward
This scene always gets to me. Both sides fought hard no matter what. The shots over Achilles and his men gazing at the arrows falling is epic. The archers firing at will. Ajax fighting his heart out. Such beautiful cinema.
Thats the moment Agamemnos realized that pushing around smaller city states was different from challenging one of the largest trade city in the aegean.
Agamemnon believes he’s invincible with his large army he ordered his army to move forward while they are being slaughtered.
Yes. Troy wasn't just any city state. It had a pretty sizable army of its own
Love how Achilles paces as he watches the battle. He is such the warrior that he instinctively wants to fight and has to hold himself back the whole time. Its shows just how strong his desire to make war is.
If Achilies join to Ajax, the war would have ended with greek army victory
LMAO maybe in this movie
@@Thekidloquendero9745 the war did end in a greek victory
Yea, but he threw a hissy fit towards Agamemnon over the girl so that’s just that. He’s restraining himself until he gets what he wants.
not just that, he cares about regular soldiers, and is visibly in despair as he witnesses them being sent to their death by useless commanders
The archer at 5:09 is having a great time lmao
Hector is the man ever person should be
Ajax: "So you're the best of the Trojans"
Hector: *aggressive headbutt*
This was comical af.
1:57 - Now that is a true leader. Hector rushing in to fight Ajax who was decimating the Trojan soldiers…..
In the Iliad, Ajax almost kills him before Hector is whisked off by the gods out of mercy. Hector never kills Ajax.
@@Nick-zb4yg Yeah I know. I was referring to this scene in particular, not how accurate it is compared to the Iliad. Just the actions of a true leader

Best battle scene from Troy film 🔥
Thanks for up loading the whole battle uncut from beginning to end. Was looking for it for a while.
Most Hollywood ancient defender army would break formations and shattered into pieces, but the defense in troy hold the line accurately to halt the momentum of attackers charge, that's something worth and delight to see
is counter attacking against a retreating army a viable strategy?
Like spartans at the Hot Gates.
They fought like a one wall during the first charges then started 1v1 everyones.
The Trojan archers broke the Greek momentum by targeting the Greek troops just behind the initial advancing lines.
Props to the stunt performers in this scene, they properly went for it.
It's amazing how everyone had omniscient sight and hearing in ancient times.
This movie is 100% accurate because my dad served in the Trojan war so it’s true

The Trojans could have won this war had they played defense like Hector suggested, considering that Achille's men sat out and there was division among the Greeks. Just listen to Hector and you win, especially when you have home field advantage as the defenders.
Ajax: "So you're the best of the Trojans?!"
Hector: _That's it! You asked for it!_
The close-up shots to the women at the back of the lines actually reminds us of how war isn't actually glory, reminds us that there are actually people behind us who would be devastated
It also reminds us how an overwhelming majority of men stood up to protect one manchild and one woman from consequences
Hector was a better man than Achilles and didn’t deserve to die.
3:55 Hector's wife and father's facial expressions when he wins against Ajax! Superb acting all around!
I love the triumphant music playing along with the Trojans pushing them back. They’re seen as the underdog and it’s fitting seeing them win this battle
Hector was a G. Led from the back and only decided to join the fighting after identifying the toughest Greek.
This whole movie was an action-packed thriller that had me at the edge of my seat. This scene in particular gave me the vibes. This whole movie was very well made not historically accurate but still very good
Tell them that they can collect their dead is basically saying “I don’t want this mess outside my house, you clean it up”!
This was such a good movie
So many arrows unleashed and not even one hit Agamemnon.
Or Ajax
The force is strong oh wait wrong movie never mind
Because God and Goddess is protecting him.
Closest arrow shot at Agamemnon hit his chariot driver.
I wish Ajax had lasted longer in the film, he was my favourite character, pure warrior spirit!
Hector doesn't kill him in the Iliad, he actually commits suicide after going on a rampage in the Greek camp as Athena clouds his mind.
@@Nick-zb4yg yeah well almost no one in this movie (except Hector and Patroclus) dies in the same context as they do in the Iliad, so that just fits in with the overall trend.
@@joshweiner4645 That's unfortunate, because the deaths have meanings as well as implications outside of the movie.
I always wanted to see Boagrius from the beginning against Ajax :D
Love how the Trojans push them back & then the apalonian guard just charges the line like tanks smashing through the breach
Hector the true leader.
*FOR TROY!!!* - chills
You know, you may find it weird, but at the video 's last moments I do like the fading light of day, as the sun sets. Really good work by the director of photography. In fact, I love it!
Hector is the man
I like how in this scene, it shows that Achilles isn't just a great warrior but also a great tactician. He's not participating in the battle but he's still frustrated with Agamemnon for making idiotic decisions fueled by rage. It's probably the ONLY part of the movie that is remotely true to the story, or at least the portrayal of Achilles.
Yeah he knows what should be happening but Agamemnon's not doing it. The only other person that shares with him the exact same strategy is Odysseus.
Achilles knows the Trojans have a major advantage in this battle hundreds of archers on the walls Hector with his assembled army in strong lines.
That's was great, defender to TROY
"FOR TROY!" So epic.
6:21
God what an amazing shot
It's interesting how both sides represented like it's the ultimate sport. Both sides calling out plays like their team captains
Strategically telling the Greeks to collect their dead also meant no dead bodies to forment disease. The Greeks collecting their dead saves the Trojans half the work.
I mean, sports is essentially non fatal war. There are ranks=positions, Coach=Generals, and plays=strategies. Most people pick a side to root for like a nations civilians
My favorite part is the perspective how you think that Ajax is lifting Hector up but he’s actually falling to his knees
When movies depicted real men.
For troy!
Hector was a true general
Hector was a major coward in the actual Epic. Read the Iliad.
best battle scene in history of cinema. Hector is amazing
Having the Trojan fights like Romans is a nice touch, they even throw their spears before charging.
This part of the movie make me realize how great Hector was the great military leader, a great prince and a great son and I am sure if he had became a king of Troy he would have been a great king may be 10 times more better than his father but instead of all that what happen to him was really unfortunate especially for Troy
Had his father listened to him and not attack the Greek camps at the beach then Troy would have won. You know Hector wouldn't have fallen for the Trojan horse had he been alive considering even Paris wanted to burn it. If Hector became King, Troy would have flourished because Hector would have used common sense in time of warfare than blindly listening to the gods.
@@jmc28J17 exactly that is also the case their believe in fake Gods and stupid priests are the main reason for the troy fall
I wish this movie was alternative and the Trojans won
If Hector had killed a achilles instead troy would have won instead.
How did they do this scene? Its incredible
not a single person in sight, just cell phones living in the moment.

@@LL-id5ij For troy!
Those Appolonians went the fuck off ! Straight savages
Were they the remnants of the apollonian guard?
Now that’s what you call big brother in action!
Oh yeah. That 's the real thing. I watched the other day an interview of the film 's director, Wolfgang Petersen. He admitted, among others, that he and the production team decided not to be loyal to Homer 's poem, just because they thought this was the best way to avoid any risk of commercial failure. Even though I 'm a huge Iliad fan since my childhood, I don 't blame him. This is only another Hollywood product. Many people worked to make this film possible, and surely deserved to be paid for their services. Of course, I 'm not talking only about actresses and actors, who generally played their roles well, in my humble point of view. And what 's more, a tornado hit the mexican pacific coast, where the scenery of the castle of Troy and the greek military camp was set, and destroyed it, totally. This and other unlucky incidents (Pitt 's leg injury) delayed scenes shooting almost a year, according to Petersen. Nevertheless, the battle scenes are exactly as I dreamt them, when I first read Iliad, in the age of 9. Perhaps Homer himself imagined the battles in front of Troy 's walls like that. And so, yes, I raise both of my thumbs.
See game of thrones thats how you have a defending army outside the walls
What happens to them
@@code066funkinbird3 The army in game of thrones basically had catapults *in front of melee infantry* (basically having long ranged cavalry in the first line instead of having shields and melee fighters) plus instead of using cavalry in flanking/quick strike tactics they just sacrificed the entire cavalry with one charge against the undead.

This battle simultaneously has some of the most awesome and also some of the dumbest scenes I’ve ever seen
Still d best war scene I've seen
Troops at the start of the battle would have been much more tightly packed to prevent them falling over or be pushed over.
A very small ditch would of been dug in the battle ground by the Trojans to slow down the charge at the start (run up a small sand hill)
Yelling out to troops was unlikely to be done by the general he would have a horn that could be heard by all commanders who’d then pass the word to the troops
Hector : for troy
ME : for troy
My favorite movie
I've always wondered how the entire army is able to hear Hector's commands over the chaos. How could the front line possibly hear him say "push!"?
They had great hearing back then. Or walkie talkies. Lol
If we're talking the realistic sense. They have officers in the ranks who pass orders down the line so everyone hears the order but its not an instantaneous reaction like in most movies lol
@@vanderz1012 that makes sense. Ditto for Agamemnon's "prepare for battle!"
They pass orders down the line.
The guy in front of him repeats and so on.
Can you imagine what the history books would say if Achilles fought under King Priam? Hector & Achilles on the same team would’ve been EPIC!
In my opinion this and the calvalry charge in LOTR Return Of The King are the best battle scenes in cinema history.
You would think an army that big they would have archers also to counter Troy.. Just shoot bows at the king watching on top lol
somebody really liked helms deep. the battle tactics made some sense in that movie but they definitely don't here. not only do the greeks just run themselves into spears and arrows out of formation but they apparently have chariots (and men on horseback! with saddles! in the 13th century BC!) and didn't feel like maybe a good flank cavalry charge could've ran these guys into their own walls? yea achilles they probably should have stayed in formation! good observation!
They didn't used chariots in battle.
