I wonder if the Joker movie's quote of "my life is nothing but a comedy" is inspired by Carrie Fisher's quote .... for them when life gets painful they psyche themselves to think its part of a funny skit ...

I disagree. I think looking at the truth and self knowledge is the best way to deal with things. Humor has its place, but it leads to addiction, self-hatred and mental disease when used to cope with tough issues.

Harald Selliseth Humour leads to addiction and self hatred ? Really? I'm a nurse and I find the complete opposite to be true. I have nursed many people over the years, and in my experience I have found that people who have a Mental Health issue, do better when having a sense of humour about their illnesses, that and medication of course. It's a way of coping with things, rather than being miserable and having the "why me?" attitude. That is why I like Carrie Fisher, because it's so refreshing to see someone with her humour, who dealt with things so well.

    • @jomon324
      @jomon324 7 років тому

Poppy Fields you haven't seen the "evil laugh" then. It's when people laugh just as a defense mechanism, but the laugh sounds weird, like it's forced. They laugh in a sycophantic way, and you start noticing that they get their kicks out of watching other people squirm. It's cool when heroes laugh at villans, but when villans laugh at heroes, it's creepy and gross. This is what Harald was talking about. I know because my mom's side of my family never found humor in stuff like cats being silly, but would always find humor in scaring kids into crying, pulling mean pranks, and watching kids squirm. I had to watch this stuff happen, and it's never funny. Vindictive laughter, which Carrie Fisher has in this interview (she sounds like my aunt), is VERY bad.

She was always so self-depreciating, felt she could never live-up to her mom's beauty and talent, and her dad left her and her Mom for another woman (Liz Taylor). Then she watched her Mother deal with her fame and career leave her. She wasn't very happy being the child of huge celebrities and being a child star herself, because she wanted to just be a kid.. Carrie was so "lucky", but sadness seems to have been baked-in from her start. She kept fighting her dark emotions her whole adult life, and she bravely fought the evil stigma of mental illness to the benefit of many others fighting it themselves. She's in heaven, for sure.

‘You're Only As Sick As Your Secrets’ . I couldn't agree more. Most people are forgiving and understanding if you are upfront and honest with them about mental illness. What most people have a problem with are those that try to cover up or lie about their illness. Most likely they already know that there is a problem and are annoyed and resentful that they have to play along with the secret.

@@av201 I agree with your second sentence but disagree with your first sentence. That is not my experience at all. Who “shunned” Carrie Fisher after she came out and was honest with her mental disorder ?
Not only was she not “shunned”, Meryl Streep played the lead character based and written about Carrie Fisher and she was the hero of the film who admitted her illness and the film ridiculed the mother character (played by Shirley MacLaine) specifically for acting as if she did not have any mental issues, when she obviously did.

Carrie Fisher was courageous in her struggle with Bipolar Disorder and she was admirable for bringing it openly into the public conversation. With no shame.
Those of us who have suffered to a lesser degree with neurosis, depression, anxiety or fears should be immediately compassionate with those who suffer with more serious mental illness.

Grant was seated with 6 or 7 men from the company that featured him as its spokesperson. I kept trying to get up my courage to approach him but never did. When closing time arrived I still had not introduced myself and as we all walked down the (exquisite) stairwell I remained frozen. A few days later I received a phone call from Mr. Grant`s secretary, `Miss Shevey, Mr. Grant wants me to tell you, if you ever encounter him again and decline to introduce yourself, there will be ++++ to pay` Or maybe it`s in a letter?!

It took awhile for her doctors and her to find the right balance of medication for her manic depression (which she has stated in interviews) and all kinds of weight related issues stem from the illness. I really wish people would do their research on mood disorders before they open their mouth. I've worked in the field for over 10 years now and the stigma surrounding mental illness is bad enough without the emotional and physical effects it has on the person with the diagnosis. The woman fought in the public eye for decades to help people understand mental illness so at least try and educate yourself.

I would have loved to hear the rest of that Cary Grant story.
I never realized what a lousy interviewer Matt was. Why would a guest open up to someone who so obviously does not care and can't even fake it. I know it's the guests job to be interviewed, but I wonder if it makes people reluctant to go beyond surface stuff. I'd give the bare minimum, whilst still being professional.

OMG that interviewer is so naive... thinking that bi polar means that tomorrow she's completely different. I'm glad she came back with "it's not that fast" I get the same stupid comments from ignorant people who know I have it.

    Bitterness beyond belief.....
She lived in another world. One with secrets, denials, all that maniacal stuff.
    Things people either understand
    (And won't talk about)
Or don't understand and talk about the shallow, mundane starstruck child that only sees a Christmas tree at Christmas

the disrespect is unbelievable, she was a strong, witty and real woman in a horrible fake world. you aren’t even a fraction of how funny she is, you probably have the personality of a brick. this woman taught me so much from a young age, she taught me how to not take crap from anyone and overall just how to be strong. yes she may have made questionable choices with drugs, but do you know how hard working in that industry is? i bet you don’t because you’re as more irrelevant as a slice of bread and do you understand how she grew up? her father left her and debbie for someone else, and then the father of her child left her too, and she knows that some other things she has done werent good, and she’s apologized where it was needed and she moved past it. she was an amazing feminist who knew exactly what she deserved and could teach young girls how to not let people walk over over them. this woman who was an inspiration to me since i was only 8 is dead and you have the audacity to come to this video and talk trash about her while while millions and millions of people are still mourning her because she had and still has such a huge impact on our daily lives. imagine if her daughter read that, put yourself in her shoes, imaging reading a comment disrespecting your dead mother. so why don’t you grow a pair of balls and stop hiding behind a screen and put some respect on the name of someone who has been so inspirational to so many young girls all over the world.
