Steve was 15 when he was asked to join the Spencer-Davis group. Imagine being so talented that adults want you to become a part of their group!💜💜💜 That’s the great Chaka Kahn singing with him.💜💜💜
Steve Winwood has been cranking out fantastic music since he was 15. And the great Chaka Khan just happened to be in the studio when making this video. She joined him and made the vocals even better! He's so soulful no matter what he sings.
Hi Nick! I love songs like this from the 80's. They take me back to my high school years. So many 80's songs just make you feel happy! One of my favorites is from Level 42, called Something About You. If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend it! Would love to see your reaction on it!
Steve Woodward was famous with Spencer Davis Group, blind faith and traffic in the 1960s. He also had a big hit in 1980 with “while you see a chance” which you should also check out.
Never heard of Steve Winwood? OMG. I feel so old. Oh wait. I am old 😂 He was one of the coolest kids on the block in the 60's. Spencer Davis group, Blind Faith. Also did a great album with Stomu Yamashta. ❤
This was the #1 song in England during the month I visited in July 1986. I was 15 and I danced to this many many times in all the clubs that summer. Bought the 45 to bring home with me, and to this day, "Higher Love" is one of my favorite songs with many fond memories. Great reaction as always!!!
Steve Winwood came from Traffic in the 80s before breaking out into a successful 80s solo career. This video features the legendary Chaka Khan singing alongside.
❤❤ Steve Wynwood definately put out some great music back in the day. I enjoyed him with Blind Faith and the Spencer Davis group in the 60's. He's another musician that can do pretty much anything. 80's time travel? I'm all in.❤Stay safe
When this first came out I RAN to the record store to get a cassette tape of it. I played the tape over and over and over!!!! This is my favorite track!!!! This is more of a spiritual song than a love song. He even mentioned that in an interview. I didn't know that he referenced that until today. I have just always seen it that way for me. Did you notice the "backup singer" is Chaka Kahn? My other favorite of this album is "Back in the High Life" Excellent! For me he was a lesser known artist until this album blew him up! Excellent choice Nick, thanks!!!!
Not evident in this song/video but Steve is a really talented musician too. He mainly plays keyboards and guitar (rhythm as well as lead when it suits him), but he also plays bass and some other instruments occasionally on some of his albums. You won't see him play those other instruments live though. After you've had your fill of his 80's stuff, be sure to go back in time and familiarize yourself with his earlier bands (Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, and my favorite, Traffic). The earlier stuff is more classic rock and roll, Blind Faith and Traffic, while also rock, lean more into jam band territory if you pick the right songs.
OK, this is like the third time I’ve heard Gen-Z mention fading out a song as something strange or unique to them. I don’t think they realize that was the way 85% of all songs for decades ended (the studio version of course). Not just the 1980s but the 70s and much of the 60s and 90s too. Did that stop being a thing? I didn’t think so but I’m not big on today’s music so…

Steve Winwood could pull in some background vocalists too. Chaka Khan here and James Taylor on Back in the High Life. Great reaction choice.
