One of my favorite artists of all time! The man brings an extremely high quality with his vocals, keyboards, and guitar! There aren’t many that can do that at such a high level!! I am going to see him in a few weeks opening for the Doobies. I am sure he will be incredible, just as he has been every other time I’ve seen him!

As a little kid I remember hearing this song and liking it. After hearing Dear Mr. Fantasy on an ESPN ad I got really into the band Traffic. At that time the 80's were just starting to be played on the oldies radio stations. When I heard "Higher Love by Steve Winwood" I couldn't believe it. It goes to show you good artists evolve. He always kept the blues/soul going though.

Winwood was involved with the making of records for so many other musicians and singers besides himself. Another favorite of mine is the soulfully sad My Love’s Leavin’ (off of the Back in the High Life album, 1986). The version of this that I actually heard first was a cover by the jazz group Fourplay, featuring Michael McDonald on lead vocals. (2006). I remember my mother was very sick at the time and I would sit in the kitchen with headphones on (when I could) and I’d get lost in the song. When I found out it was a Steve Winwood song, I went back and listened to the original version. I fell in love with both versions. The cover is very true to the original. Winwood’s has more synth in it - Michael McDonald’s is jazzier (especially towards the end) but both versions are fire 🔥

Back in the High Life Again is a great album! One of the more memorable concerts I attended. Simple stage set up with exceptional lighting.
