I have the same tank on my 530. Seems that the petcocks are quite a bit lower than the fuel inlet on the carb. Gas will not flow below below that level. Have you noticed that? What did you do to fix? thx
I guess i never ran the tank that low - I've upgraded to the efi bike with a 4 gallon tank - similar 200+ mile range carrying much less gas. The ride i did today got almost 60mpg - easy mostly paved stuff at moderate speeds...
Yes, a bit, imho if one wants to keep this bike, it should have a single sump conversion which I believe is basically drilling a hole between the two sides of the engine. I've since upgraded to a 2021 500 exc-f - and the new bikes don't have these problems as they're single sump. There's only 1.2L of oil in the entire engine.
Marius Enduro I got to about 430 hours, but it was burning oil - 100-200cc a day depending on use. I sold it to a guy who’s rebuilding it and he said the cylinder was in spec, but he decided to re-coat it before putting in a new piston and rings.
Do you still have this bike? How are ypu finding it for reliability etc? I've had one for a few months and I totally love it, I've started turning it into a lightweight adv bike too
I do not, I did a long trip and traded up for a '21 500 - the oil migration issue became a problem, I'd convert it to a single sump if I still had it. Actually the guy I sold it to completely rebuilt it like new - rebuilt the engine and everything, but he had oil coming out of one of the vents due to this oil migration thing. Not sure if he's fixed it yet.
@@mattbillenstein ask your mate if he knows about the kick start idler gear issue that can happen on 08 models. Here's a post from advrider that might help... I know of two bikes that this happened to that involved the bushing in the kick start idler gear. The bushing has two holes in it that line up with two holes in the hollow shaft where the bushing rides. The trans vents through these holes then out to the vent line, the bushing can slip in the idler gear at which point the holes no longer line up and the trans vent is effectivly blocked which allows pressure to build up and force oil out the vent line. I would remove the side cover and pull out the kick start idler gear and make sure the holes line up with the bushing, if they don't you can simply drill new holes through the bushing or you can replace the bushing with the updated part (I have heard that the updated part has a little more interfearance and is more resistant to slipping although I haven't measured this for my self).
The new bikes don't have a kickstart, and they're single sump already, so they've solved these issues. I've done about 12k miles now on my '21 and it really hasn't missed a beat anywhere - runs great at all altitudes and all terrain.
Nope, sold that one and bought the '21 These dual sump bikes have oil migration problems, I wouldn't have one again unless it had a single sump conversion.
Someone put a cross-over ''T'' on the tank to drain both sides! I thought I was the only one who noticed it leaves around 40 OZ of gas trapped if you don't! I have an 08 450 with the 3.4 Acerbis and this tank too and I always put a ''T'' on them. One Petcock on the left side.
Sorry for the wind noise - I should redo this indoors perhaps.
hey man i have a 2010 model, just wondering where you got the key ignition from ? and is that built in to the head light ? looked like it lol , cheers
@@rhysieboii69 Came with the bike - I think all the exc bikes come with lights and a key?
Hey Matt you inspired to me to get one 2011 to leave it like your bike 🏍️ ❤

any issues w oil migration?

@@trailwayfilms Yeah, I actually had to fix that myself - I pushed the bush out and pushed it back in with some loctite, seems to have fixed it.
