  • Our 1973 Mach 1 had been deeply restored more than two years prior to this video been made. When we acquired the Mach 1 bothleft and right door glas pieces had some fairly deep scratches. The scratches were too deep and significant to allow Buffing nad Polishing to work. So, I ordered new door glass from ECS Automotive Conccepts. I had taken photos of the CarID logo, name of the glass, and the Date Code of the glass manufacture, and sent the photos to ECS. As part of the service they offered includes window etching, I had them replicate the etchings on the original glass.
I also wanted to have one key operate both the 73 Mustangs Convertible, as well as the Mach 1. In addition we have a 1969 Shelby gT500 that uses the same key and lock cylinder design as the two 1973 Mustangs use. By having boh the Mustangs use a single key cut deesign, I would be able to cut the door and ignition keys with one lock design on one of the key blade blades, and the Shelby lock design on the other blade. Thus, one Door/Ignition key will work on three cars.
I purchased two new door lock cylinders, and had a locksmith program those lock cylinders to work with the 1973 Mustang Convertible key design.
Finally, the passenger door latch mechanism was no longer allowing the passenger door to fully close and latch, so I ordered a new latch assembly.
Doing work on those three areas is not particularly difficult. It is more tedious than difficult. But, it is a subject I sew very few videos covering. So, I decided to do as video on those three sub-assemblies.
In short, I learned a lot more than I though could be "out there." I also learned the benefit of pacing myself and not rushing to get things doone as soon as possible.
Anyway, I know this is a very long video - even for me. But, I felt the information will be of value to someone, somewhere, someday. I hope every person who looks at this videl ends up benefiting from the information in this 2 1/2 hour long videl.

Thank you. I know the videos I post are not polished. My focus is on providing useful and accurate information. I appreciate it when I find that there are indeed folks who get value from what Lynda and I put on our channel.

It is a pretty long video considering the content not being all that complex. But, there are some gems in it that may save someone some grief. It was fun to put together if nothing else. Perhaps it will be useful to someone who is about to engage is this kind of work.
