Joni performs her hit version of "Your Cheatin' Heart" on a television show in 1959. Her record had charted at #2 in Billboard in 1953. Written by Hank Williams.
The news of her passing brought a tear to my eye. She had a sweet "shyness" in her voice. A very simple, natural style from an era that has long gone ... but ultimately timeless. Her beautiful smile adorned many an MGM LP. I play "Nina Non" every Christmas. She will be fondly remembered by many.
I just loved her soooo much. Fell in love with her voice when I was only 10 years old. My father purchased a 78 record of Joni and was introduced to her style of singing in the fifties. I never dreamed that one day I would meet her backstage at Lincoln Center in person in late 90's. I knew then that she was class with all that full concert background. I looked for years for her music and wondered what happened to her. I was a huge fan of Joni James. Nobody can come close to her. Now she sings for the Lord and angels 😇. Did anybody know she had her own pink plane. And she was 🤴 princess Margret favorite singer. She is a legend. Also very humble person what a girl.
I only discovered Joni within the past two weeks and I fell in love with her voice immediately. As someone who loves jazz, cool jazz, and old pop standards from the the 30s-60s I somehow never heard of her, which surprised me because I like a lot of super obscure people from the time (Lucy Ann Polk to name one) and I basically just picked her "Joni Swings Sweet" album because the record was in good quality and the cover looked cool. My goodness was I glad I did! It's was incredible and everything else I have heard of hers is just lovely. Star Eyes, Don't Blame Me, and Why Don't You Believe Me are my favorites for sure. So when I saw this video I clicked instantly! It would have been amazing to see her in shows like this, but I'm only 21 so I haven't been around too long!🤣 I hope to find almost all of her records though for my big collection, gotta find a spot for them!
Exquisite voice, perfect pitch and impeccable phrasing. No wonder why her way singing influences the singer such as Barbra Streisand who is a big fan of Joni James.
As a child of the 50's, I loved Joni's songs and, fortunately, I've been able to find several of them on youtube and have saved them on my smart phone. She even did an album of Irish songs and did a great job on those as well. She's always seemed like a lovely person behind the scenes as well. God bless you Joni. He gave you a great talent and you shared it with all the world.🥰
Thank you so much for sharing this rare video of hers.. my late Dad was her die hard fan who had a collection of her recorded songs which became a part of our growing up. I miss her now more than ever.
I have a secret penchance for these beautiful old songs, the shame of it all no-one writes songs like this anymore, it has been a joy to find modern singers remaking these tunes. So thank you for sharing & allowing beautiful memories to come to the fore for the likes of myself & others. Travel well & safely.
Thank you so much for posting this, Tom. It is difficult to find videos of Joni James. It is also great to have such a clear, crisp picture as opposed to grainy kinescopes.
Back home in Denver, circa early '50's...So many superlative singers, along comes Joni James and knocks us all out with such angelic voicing of those and of hers..collection of 45's be stacked next to record player,tDoris,Ella,Sarah,Peggy,Julie. Along with Joni James amongst the group of fine Divas..
Do you have Joni James video why don’t you believe me in perry como show episode 18 on Nov 12, 1952. It appeared on UA-cam many years back, but was pulled out.I never see it again.

I'm sorry but I deleted the channel, Richard. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos for the short time I decided to make them though! I'm doing well now though; I hope you and Patti are too!
@@TomElvisSmith Tom, I am so very sorry to hear that you deleted the channel. I learned so much about Sad Sack from your channel. I am so very, very sorry. I hope all is well. I just feel terrible that you gave up on the channel.
@@TomElvisSmith Life is tough at times. I know that this UA-cam thing has its pitfalls. I've had a few stalkers. But, I keep on keeping on. It's not as easy as people may think. I hope all is well. The world is rapidly changing, and sadly it's not for the good. Please stay well.

There wasn’t many singers that could touch Joni in her heyday …Nowadays..😂😂😂..No one is even in her atmosphere..
Released 1953
