    Good morning Al. We plan a trip over to VT to check out this manufacturer. In 1980 my 1st husband and I built a 20x30 stick built b&b workshop with a 4' knee wall. We poured the Alaskan slab ourselves and I cried through it. Very difficult for two inexperienced people to do. We should have sectioned it off prior to pouring. But it turned out to be acceptable for our use. We had also milled 22,000 board ft. of oak for the walls off our property a year prior. Back then it was 11 cents a board ft. We had to use 6x6 beams in the center to support the structure, VS your open post and beam. So your barn is something you will enjoy and remember building with each passing year of use :-).

    I loved this video. I enjoyed the visit from the manufacturer of your barn kit. They seem very accommodating and would work with you on anything that you would want. I didn't understand the door when you put the cross board on it because I thought it was going to be a traditional single thickness door. I don't particularly like the door because it's not traditional, but at least it made sense when you started adding the other material to it. But that is my personal preference. It does look nice and it is thick. It should last a very long time. Love and blessings to you and your homestead.

    Instead of moving the firewood to “rotate” for dry fuel, we designed our shed so we can access it from either of 2 sides; then we just rotate our behavior each winter for which side we use to grab the wood. We store the newest wood in last winter’s side so it has the whole next year to dry out.

    Goooooood Afternoon Al ,
    How nice to see the company do a follow up to see how your barn kit is going for you.
    I once bought a sun room kit from a local company. As soon as I paid for it , I never heard from them again. I'm not surprised that they now seem to be out of business.
    Ha ha , Dom is a leaner.
    The two side extensions are what make your barn work .
    Wow , double thickness doors !
    I'll be watching to see how you do the insulation of the barn. That single thickness of wood is simply not going to retain much heat for you . I'm surprised that you have and use the table saw on the floor. I have a portable , folding , work bench that I have have had for 30 plus years. It's very handy when you need a temporary work bench in the house , back porch , driveway or even out in the yard.

    We went with the sawmill to make our own lumber. We are cutting down the trees anyway to clear, we use the softwood for lumber and the hardwood for firewood. We want a number of outbuildings, so in the long run we it will be cheaper then buying the lumber, and we get much better quality lumber then what you get from the box stores. In a few years we can sell the mill and recoup quite a bit of the money back.

    In a traditional door/gate build, the angle board should be butted up against the top and bottom horizontal boards (not "running over" the sides of the door) with the lower end at the side of the hinges so as to provide a physical compression "triangle" that will resist vertical skewing of the door under its own weight. In the build shown, the "skew resist" is not so physically robust. That is a design fault.

While the structure is magnificent it's all the little details you add in that will make it absolutely perfect for your homestead. A plastic door just wouldn't fit into your aesthetic. I swear Olivia has grown a foot this summer. What a generous offer code you have enabled your viewers to have. Good mornin New Yolk City .... you gonna move those pigs into the part of the pasture that has the natural wallows/springs/seeps? Lovin the barn door build AL .... gonna look real cool finished! Sounds like you will be getting a top notch wood "shed" ..... good deal .... and it's real nice that the manufacturer has extended the 10% discount and free shipping to everyone 8^) All your critters are looking healthy and happy .... did you move all the rest of the spools into the area the goats are playing .... Little Man looked like he was enjoying the one spool recently. Have a nice weekend AL, Gina & Olivia.

    The barn is beautiful. I love this long form commercial, I want one too! But there are no flat land areas on my property and we are getting up in age. So we are living vicariously through you. Thank you for your videos! 🇺🇸✝️❤️

    They should throw in the firewood storage kit for free for doing these videos and and I assume that one in the future! I thought the mobile pig mover was fun to watch but this barn build has been incredible. Keep up the good work Al. And your video editing is really great. It's like I'm right there with you.

    Most channels have an outro that eventually just becomes a habit to recite, and loses all the original meaning. But in your outro when you say that your viewers are a blessing, you can tell that you are sincere every single time.

    Al, great work and the future plans are solid. You should also consider water harvesting from the barn, it will help with the animals, maybe using a couple of totes. The woodshed sounds like a good plan and time to get it up before the snow comes.

    Cool door! Wow the goats are getting big! The fire wood shed sounds awesome, anxious to see what you guys come up with. Gonna take a look at their website, we could use one as well. The sound of ten cords has a nice ring to it! Sure was nice of Dom to offer that awesome discount! Hey Lil Man, you're not so little anymore.

    Al, I noticed on the roof that you have some lifted, where the green roof and the flashing meet. I worry about that. I love your barn. If I owned property I would get a barn. Ty for showing us how to do this.

    Spray foam can be a risk. When you let that do, be sure that company has trained staff and are certify to do this work. Make a contract with a security inside that when its go wrong they have to pay all costs to replace it. Also contact your own insurance if its covered. That company can go broke and then you can build a new barn from your own money. I know its sounding all very pessimistic but there were very bad cases. Better check it first or take no risk and isolated your self. (what I should do) Its more work, I know, but no danger and no chemical disaster afterwards. Take care, Regards, Tony.

      Will Al be doing it himself? I'd like to know what insulation the will use for the ceiling.

    • @nancyfahey7518
      @nancyfahey7518 5 років тому +5

      Yes, saw some horror stories about that foam on youtube. Just knowing that and taking some precautions should be enough. I would think the foam would be best to keep the critters out.

    • @sissydewoody8717
      @sissydewoody8717 5 років тому +5

      Antonius ... good heads-up. A couple in WA had problems with out-gassing from the foam used in their house. Not sure if type that Al is thinking of, but worth thinking about [Blue Creek Dairy Farm ua-cam.com/video/Ezwmnb7Sz4E/v-deo.html ]

      Yes I agree, quite toxic and highly flammable. Reaches flash point in under a minute. Not what I’d choose. How about wool? Sheep’s wool is a cosy insulator.
