I build a sawmill shed out of lumber from the forest! I try to keep costs for the shed super cheap by re-using as much materials as I can, and sourcing materials from the forest around me. I use both milled woods, and many dead standing trees to make a structure that will keep my portable sawmill free of snow, ice, and rain. That way, I can use my sawmill year round without having to worry about the weather.

Revive with Koenders Windmill Aeration Systems
Aeration is a safe, natural and sustainable way to keep your pond or lake healthy and balanced. By increasing oxygen levels, our aerators improve the circulation of your water and speed up the decomposition of organic matter, which:
Reduces algae blooms and deters weed growth
Eliminates pond odors by venting off harmful gases
Reduces fish kill during hot and cold weather by dissolving increased levels of oxygen in the water when the fish need it most
Enhances the benefits of Nature’s Pond Conditioner
Bottom-Up Aeration Windmills
Eco-friendly - no electricity required, powered by the wind!
Best windmill on the market in low-wind regimes, capturing the most cubic feet of air per month
Bottom-up aeration - Effectively dissolves oxygen into all levels of water for healthier pond life, 6-8 X more effective than surface/fountain aeration. Can also circulate water along the shoreline with multiple diffusers to deter weed growth
No maintenance required - Reduces your power bill with no monthly costs
Different sizes available - Available with Single Diaphragm or Dual Diaphragm compressors, which allow for aeration of all sizes of ponds 1/4 acre and larger
Wind Powered Aeration
Harness the power of the wind and save money on your energy bills with our windmill aeration systems.
Our windmills are made of the highest quality materials, ensuring years of worry-free aeration for your pond or dugout.
Industry Leading Build Quality
Bottom-Up Aeration for Your Pond
Works in Low Wind Conditions
Low Maintenance
Easy to Assemble
Eco-Friendly Pond Aeration
What type of windmill do you need?
That depends on the size and shape of your pond.
Single Diaphragm: Smaller ponds up to one acre - up to 25 feet deep.
Double Diaphragm: Irregular shaped or a pond bigger than one acre - up to 25 feet deep.
Single Diaphragm Windmill Aeration Systems come with 100 feet of Polytubing Airline and 1 Airstone Diffuser with Foot Valve.
Double Diaphragm Windmill Aeration Systems come with 200 feet of Polytubing Airline, 2 Airstone Diffusers with Foot Valves, and a 2 Way Selector Valve.
The difference between single or double diaphragm? Double Diaphragm = Double Air Volume.
If your pond or dugout is surrounded by tall trees, a taller tower may be a good idea.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

glad you brought up the smoker incident, yesterday I watched a Farmcraft 101 video on fire extinguishers, you should get some for your property!
Big shout out to you and all the projects you have built. I found you from your pizza oven and sauna and I have stayed for everything else. If you and your bro ever got into disc golf you would be able to build such a fun course in your woods.
Great job 👏 well done 👍
"Cedar shakes are split off while shingles are sawn smooth on both sides and cut tapered. Lastly, shakes are thicker than shingles. Durability - Generally speaking, cedar shakes are more durable and last longer than shingles because they are thicker" and made from premium grade wood.
My wife and I keep returning to the saw milll building episodes from the beginning to the end. To us this is our favourite. We never get tired of watching it. There is so much going on here. What an incredible build!
thanks for coming out Kevin, the cedar shakes look awesome on the sawmill shed!
Thanks for the hookup.. I'll be in the woodyard soon enough checking out the big processor in action.
It’s great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan’s ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.
I love everything you make because you are always showing people you can re use or recycle a lot of stuff. As well as show people how you need to take care of woodland to keep regenerate it.
yea the repurposing is the best part!
Kevin, I think that is the coolest project you've done in a long time. It is very practical for someone with a sawmill. I love the looks of the staggered shake gable ends.
There are two types of wood roofing materials - wood shake and wood shingles. Wood shingles are sawn on both sides and are thinner at the butt end when compared to a wood shake. Wood shakes are typically sawn on one side and hand split on the other side, making them thicker than wood shingles

This is a great series, featuring the usual cast of likable fellas, great equipment, and valuable projects.
What a wonderful build Kevin! It's really shaping up nicely 👌 Don't forget to make a cozy corner for Rachael so she can enjoy it too 😊✌️🩷🐖💨
Windows look great, ya want lots of light. the cedar shakes look great!! Those log harvesters are such cool machines. The interweb says a shingle is a catch all phrase for a roof covering, where as shakes are a made of some variety of wood. Hope that helps ya settle that question for ya Kev. So your right kev those are shakes. LOL
It’s looking so wicked Kev!!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to your sawmill she...shed build.
@@ModernSelfReliance I’m actually entertaining a sawmill out at the lake property, which gets significantly less snow than home property. Can you just see me becoming a beachcomber sawyer? 🤭🤷🏻♀️😁
There's something cozy about sitting in your house on a Saturday, springtime and flowers outside in Virginia, and watching our Canadian cousins work outside in the snow 😁
Yes and also in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Spring is here!
Enjoy your builds because they really dont look like garbage wood and leftovers. Reuse and repurpose has always been my way of saving money and making it look good is always the challenge.
Love these videos of you repurposing everything and making everything look beautiful
It just needs a pulley/ winch system to lift logs on now! Really awesome build, I also highly recommend finding a scooter muffler for a similar engine size as the mill and stick it on there. I did it on a drift trike with a 212 and it was quiet enough to have a ever so slightly higher volume then normal conversation.
Right: the enclosed space will trap sound. Mufflers rule!
Grilled peppers and onions or sauerkraut. Always mustard on sausage. Never I mean never use ketchup or tomato based sauce of any kind. Great video Kevin. Mike from Maine.
I love watching builds. It's so fun to watch how things come together from beginning to end.

7:54 "I was inhaling the forbidden smoke " 😂 me too Kevin, me too
I have been struggling with a design for my sawmill shed, thought I had it figured out. But nooooo Kevin gives me new thoughts. Great videos keep it up.
It might wind up having a cooking station and who knows what else, he’s always tweaking and thinking 🙂
Absolutely same here on the learning how to add a window to my shed after the wall is up, now i know how to approach this project.. Next is my favorite thing is the amount of cool things you add to allow the whole family to have fun and access to all you do, buddies, brother, daughter, wife and mom and dad or the other satellites in your world…. Full circle, two ideas is to use the smoke for a cold smoker box outside during the winter….”Kevins cold smoked meat supply”. Especially when one consider the recycle the trout or turn deer meat into sausage so to use the bearded woodsmans harvest etc etc. The next idea is my favorite bun to sausage combo is call the Carolina dog in which the perfect dog to bun ratio is a cold slaw mayo based concoction from eastern North Carolin and we start we a bead of Spicy Lusty monk mustard and a then spread of traditional slaw on brat or dog would be to try to see if that works for bun to dog ratio people have done south for some Time…. As always keep up the good work teaching us the power of learning is living. PhillyP💡😮😅

Really cool shingle pattern, pro job!
I was hoping for a lack of pattern. ;-) random is sometimes harder to do.
Nice building and windows. I like the cedar shakes you made. Always enjoy your channel. The windmill looks like it should help the pond. So many fun builds. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family and friends. ❤️ 😊

There are SO many wonderful comments that resonate about the fabulousness of this sawmill shed build that I'll just affirm them AND add that you have some of the coolest friends/helpers - your constant sidekick- dear Don and sausage chef/muscle-man Grant who has been around for a lot of this project. I guess you just make these endeavors TOO much fun for people to hang back so they pitch in. That speaks a lot to your good nature and vision that folks can get on board. One guy below in the comments said how you had added new ideas to the planning of his new saw shed. Go, Kevin!!! Impressive all-around.

Spicy Italian sausage on a bun with sautéed onion & bell pepper, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Unbelievably delicious.
Excellent job 👏 👍
That's turning into quite the building Kevin. The cedar shakes are killer that turned out really good I really like the way you laid them out. It's already got a rustic theme going on I can't wait for the next video on it I love watching progress on builds like this hats of mam good work!

Wow
Your talents are endless 🎉
Yet another fun video of a great build! Yes, bun to sausage ratio is a big deal! No laser printer smoke is also a big deal! Love the aeration setup for the pond...it should be successful. Here fishy fishy😂 Cheers from the southern half of Ontariarario!

I’ve always wondered how cedar shakes were made. That jig is pretty sweet. Nice recycling job Kev! I think shingles go on the roof and shakes are a wall covering. Same material with different name depending on how they are used.
I think shakes are hand split and shingles are saw cut.
@David Estrich Yeah, that's the way I always understood it.
Thank you! Another great build - good"spring" project.
Happy Easter Kevin. Thanks for the video.
Rural King also sells those windmills for ponds.
I used to have a Meccano set in the UK when I was a kid. Until you mentioned it I think it has been over 50 years since I heard that name. Thanks for the memory. I now live in Michigan

man. fried onion, with some horseraddish mustard! absolutely the best on sausage. especially bratwurst. you got the king stud, but the jack stud should all be one peice on your window structure. its a load bearing wall it seems. and it should have a much more significant header.
Love the way Frankie runs ‘sort of’ sideways when excited.

Just thinking about all the parts needed to put that windmill together, gave me next level ikea type anxiety. 😂

That's a really cool building for the mill. Something to aspire to. I'm sorry if I missed... What is the plan for loading the wood? Are you leaving that other side open?
