Around the 3:20 mark, Nebraska missed a 45-yard field goal as time expired.
Later in the video I said Jake Plummer played for Arizona as I forgot to say the "State"

Sorry for the blurry edges, I bought a new light to hopefully improve the green screen for next time. Thank you so much for watching this video about Nebraska Cornhusker football in the 90s. Obviously, there is so much more to talk about but I just wanted to briefly go year by year. What do you think about the Huskers in the 1990s and what memories do you have of Nebraska football?

As a Nebraska fan, I just want to say thanks for the very concise review of the Husker Football program in the 90s. Of course we're all homers at heart, but it's refreshing to get some perspective from an outsider. Being a college football fan first and foremost, it's cool that you took time to do this type of video. I dig your non-biased approach. It's refreshing.
Personally, if I had the wherewithal to make videos about other teams, I'd love to do a video about the 90s Seminoles or the 00s Trojans. Maybe the 70s Sooners too. Shit, there's a whole boatload of dynasties I'd love to delve into. I definitely appreciate your approach.
Anyway, thanks for the outsider's perspective, man. It's appreciated.

Edward Bookman. Thank you so much for your comment. It was awesome to read. It made my day. Thank you so much. Much respect to the Huskers. They destroyed my Gators and the Hokies as Nebraska was so good. Everyone may think about the running game at first but that defense to me was so good in the '90s. When I get some time, I want to really watch the games in full vs. Colorado in '89 and '90. Thanks again and thanks for watching the video.

Think about this: Nebraska was 2 scrimmage plays away from winning 5 straight national championships. '93 missed FG vs FSU to lose the title. '94 win vs Miami. '95 win vs Florida. '96 Texas converts on 4th down to stun Nebraska in the first ever Big XII title game. '97 win vs Tennessee to share title with Mich. If not for that 4th down convert in '96 Nebraska was slated to battle FSU in the Sugar Bowl over the Gators due to Florida's loss in Tallahassee. And I believe the '96 Nebraska team would have defeated that '96 FSU team. It was a phenomenal stretch in the 90s and they did it with old school football in a modern football world. Very impressive.

Thank you so much for the comment. Great comment. I apologize for replying to it late, but you are correct, 2 plays from scrimmage from winning 5 straight national championships. In the video, I mentioned Nebraska had some special aura, as Nebraska football just seemed different in the '90s from everyone else. That would've been fun to see Nebraska vs. FSU in 1996. But that Texas play on 4th and inches was one of the most memorable college football plays ever for me. I still can't believe Texas won that game. Thanks again as I really enjoyed reading your comment.

interesting. I didn't know the gators were looked at as the third team in florida back then. I started payng attention to the sport around 2000 and assumed it's seemed like the Gators have always been the number 1 most popular team by far.

    • @90sSportsNostalgia

What's going on Mike. I hope all is well. Yes, in the early '90s it was all Florida State and Miami. Many kids at my school either wore FSU or Miami gear. These two teams had some classic games with FSU losing (Wide Right 1 and Wide Right 2). They were title contenders in the late '80s and early '90s. Florida wasn't as good as Miami or FSU until the '94 season (tied that season 31-31 Choke at Doak game - FLA had a 31-3 lead in the 4th) but they finally beat FSU in 1995. I really enjoyed reading your perspective about the Gators around 2000. Thanks for mentioning that as the early '90s is what I'm reminded of the most. Mike - have a great 2021, be safe, take care and thank you so much for the comment. I really liked it.

Fun fact. Nebraska almost won 3 straight titles against all 3 fla teams.
They were a field goal away.
It was like they took on FSU and barely lost so miami was like we got this. Then they lost. So the gators were like stand aside fellas we got it. Then they got smoked.

Thank you Alex D for your comment. I never thought about it like that, 95 - Neb. def. FLA 94 - Neb. def. Mia. 93 - Neb. nearly defeated FSU. And early on, I thought Nebraska would never defeat Florida teams and of course, I was wrong. My mistake on not explaining the missed 45-yard field goal against FSU as time expired. Thanks again, I hope all is well and take care.

No they were 2 FGs away. FSU missed a FG in the first qtr. If we are gonna spots points, then both teams get 3 right? Neb fans always the forget the fair part.

Good stuff man huge lifelong Bama fan here you hit the 93 Sugar on the nail! Very true about Nebraska they would destroy teams! I'm not sure if they will be back as so much time has passed.Crazy fact them & Bama played each other several times in the 60s & 70s usually in the Orange but they have not played since a regular season game in 1978! I do miss the Huskers them & Miami once the biggest powerhouses are shells of themselves

Very good analysis. I appreciated the way you broke down the 90's Huskers. They were so dominate!! The thing people overlook all the time, and I am confused why this happens but actually the Huskers were beasts in the 70's and 80's as well. They won back-to-back championships in the 70's and were always in the national title mix. I know they did not win any titles in the 80's and there are reasons for that but they still destroyed most of their competition. They had actually an amazing 30 year run in my opinion??

But like you said, NEB, they were beasts even before the 90s. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

In a way Nebraska can take some credit for my Vols title in 98. After they physically whooped us we knew we needed to get a lot tougher to be the best and strength and conditioning became a much bigger point of emphasis going into the offseason.
It's really crazy how dominant Nebraska was and many of their players were just a bunch of big Nebraska boys

Sorry to say but I'm a Gators fan but when I think about Tennessee during the Phillip Fulmer era, I would say Tennessee was the best at developing interior defensive lineman and running backs. They were loaded at those two positions. The Vols were really talented under Fulmer. Thanks for the comment and much respect to the Vols.

I had to make another comment I had forgotten before Nebraska had just lost seven bowl games in a row 4 to Florida State two to Miami and went to Georgia tech I had noticed it in those games especially the Georgia tech game the defensive lines in linebackers were not only physical but they were speed demons sometime near the end of that bowl game losing streak Tom Osborne started recruiting heavily those type of players around the country then they went an incredible 60 and three the most dominating 40 years in the history of college football winning four straight bowl games and three national titles in that span but even more incredible was the year after they stopped Florida they stomped Florida Florida won the national title in the year after and a&d the year after they stomp Tennessee Tennessee won the national title young man this is one of my favorite segments that you have done very educational and entertaining thanks again every Nebraska fan should download and store this thanks again

Obviously, it's easier for a QB to make more of an impact, but Suh was outstanding in that Big 12 Championship with Texas but I do want to say this: I think Eric Crouch's 2001 season was phenomenal leading that team to the Rose Bowl. That 2001 Huskers team did not have close to the talent as some of the teams in the '90s, but he was so good in 2001. I think it was the best season a Nebraska QB had in my lifetime. Nebraska will never be what they were in the '80s and '90s again. They had their chance to keep rolling when Turner Gill was available and they turned him down for the job? He was the reason people like Tommy Frazier was coming there and all of those other players. Tom Osborne is not there and you going to have a hell of a recruiting pitch to get a black kid to come to Nebraska when he can go so many other places where he's welcome and accepted and not just looked at as a player on the field. Don't think that the black players did not take note of that we do have a circle here... But this was a good piece to reflect on what you used to have and will never have again. Turner Gill should have definitely got that job after solich.

Thanks a lot Guru's Rant for commenting and watching the video. I really appreciate it. Turner Gill from what I heard is a really solid person, when he was the head coach at Buffalo, there were reports that he really cared about his players and took a huge interest in them. I wished things would have worked out at Kansas but that's such a difficult job. I also did want to say something about the walk-on program as I heard something like this: Michael Lombardi said that Nebraska boosters would pay for the in-state talent's tuition so they could free up more scholarships and therefore, Nebraska could really focus on out of state recruiting. That doesn't seem right and I couldn't get any more information on that. But anyways, even though Turner Gill was before my time, he is someone that I really respect and was always hoping we would succeed as a coach. Thanks again and enjoy the 2021 college football season.
