👍👍👍 Good Morning Red, It's good seeing you again .. been a while now .. 'Monte Christo' .. hot diggidy dog, now that's French Toast on Afterburn 😁 .. looks yummy and you can 'Count' on me giving it a try 😏. 'Jam'. Some time back, I ran short on Sweet Chilli Sauce on my regular Sunday Brunch Toast - Chilli Sauce - Onion - Tomato - Salt / Pepper/Cayenne Pepper - Cheese - Bacon - Egg - Tomato Sauce, open sandwich. 😳 .. but it keeps me going until Supper 😁. Yes, no Chilli Sauce so I substituted it with a lathering of Strawberry Jam 😳 .. again, Strawberry Jam 😁 and have never looked back. Now a regular. Ok, ok, I know, but then, I'm a 'Phillistine'. In defence though, sometimes perceived 'opposites' attract. Back in the late 50's, my now late Aunt introduced me to 'Marmite and Marmelade Bread Sandwiches or on open Toast. Sounds weird but it's delicious .. the 'tang / bite' of the Marmite (or Bovril / Oxo if no Marmite) complementing the Bitter-Sweet Marmelade perfectly. Today, still one of my favourites. Thanks for the new idea and I will definitely give it a go in the week 'outdoor' style. Until next time then, take care .. Tommy
Thanks Tommy! I don't judge you as a Philistine just 'cuse you like to mix it up with jam, the Marmite on the other hand.... That and Veggimite is incomprehensional to me. Facing imminent starvation I would consume it, apart from that I will stear clear of it. Jokes aside, the peanut butter and jam is a classic and in Sweden we're no strangers of putting jam on lots of food, especially lingonberry jam. Take care brother!
It may be a stretch to say that I'm a chef but I'm thankful for your kind words anyway Henk. Have you had a chance to get out with your canoe yet? Cheers!
@@RedswedeOutdoors Hi Red, in my opinion everyone who can make a decent meal in the outdoors is a chef 😃. I’m preparing for a canoe trip with my grandson. . Got retired three weeks ago 🤗
I am delighted you enjoyed the Monte Christo. I have tried the one with jam on the side and a dusting of sugar and recommend you try it. Perhaps lingonberries would be a Swedish twist. The smoked was a nice touch.
In Scotland, folk of an older generation call sometimes call anything between two slices of loaf a 'sanger', though if it is cooked, they're more likely to call it a toastie.
Often make make toasted sandwiches in the Ridge Monkey sandwich maker but this looks and I’m sure tastes excellent, a combination of eggy bread and a toasted sandwich, will definitely be giving this a try and of course something like this always tastes better outdoors.
That looks really good..and easy. I need to get a small cast iron. I have all big ones. Im glad i was eating a big ham sandwich while watching or i would have been starving...lol
I’ve seen those made different ways. Dipped in batter and deep fried and dusted with sugar is one way. Sounds weird to me. Glad you had a use for your magic hat again. Cheers from Idaho.
Thanks Travis. We have a variety in Sweden, and I guess England, that's called 'Poor Knights'. No meat and cheese, just the bread and eggmilk dusted with sugar and cinnamon. A childhood favourite. Come to think of it, I should make a video about it... Cheers!
Hi Red that looked good. Couple of things I want to say. Firstly beautiful little skillet. And second....... just a little friendly advice. Maybe try turning off the auto focus on your camera. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks Robert. The AF works most of the time and it's convenient when you're filming on your own. With that said, it's very frustrating when it acts up for no apparent reason. Cheers!
You need a big dill pickle on the side and some chips. That looks good!!!! Try ham..turkey no cheese..add cranberry jelly...delicious. warning put cranberry on after cooking...it runs when hot!!! Messy in the beard..LOL
LOL, I tend to mess up the beard anyways when eating so thanks for the tip how to not make it even worse. I must confess that I'm a bit sceptic to the crannberries, but on the other hand in Sweden we are fond of having lingonberries to savoury food so it might not be to bad after all. Cheers!
Thanks Bill. What you hear in the distance is the speaker voice and music from a large running competition some kilometer away. I'm just glad that the microphone didn't capture it as weell as I heard it. Cheers!
Good video. Try a crock monsuer from the french. Sandwich with ham and cheese, leart this of someone who knocked on my door last summee, wanting to use toilet.
That doesn't sound half bad Kurt. Googled it and found that I have to do a bechamel outdoors. Never tried that before but I will try to rise to the challenge. Cheers!
Never heard of a Sanger. Sammich..sandwich..but not Sanger. Turkey with cranberry sandwich is good too..can add ham too if you like...also made on the egg bread mix.
@@nhbomar Same here. Something new. In Ireland they call a sandwich a sambo and in Scotland it is called a piece. A piece and ham or a jeely piece (jam sandwich).
Aussie here. Hot or cold, if it is made with sliced bread it is a Sanga. To answer your question from elsewhere, a burger is made with a bun, so not a Sanga, if you don't have buns handy and make it with bread it is still a burger. Then there are Jaffles, sangas compressed in a Jaffle iron. I hope that clears things up for you. 😁

Thank you! Great way to enjoy my Saturday morning coffee - watching your video!
Thanks! Hope you have a great weekend. Cheers!
Monte Christopher… Mmmmm, Lovely! In the UK we call it a Sarnie…pronounced ‘Sarny’ - great hot or cold! 😋😁
Glad you liked it Amanda. Great with the comments, I learn all kind of new things. Cheers!

I'll give the jam some thought even if I think I'll adjust the recipe somewhat. Maybe more like Poor knights of Windsor. Thanks for the tip my friend!
Ah yes the Red Chef is back, more tasty food and convo from da Red Chef is always good
Many thanks OJ!
Looks delicious! That looks a hreat little skillet, just right for a toasted sandwich on the Trangia triangle.
Bon appetit!
Thanks Sarah! It's great for solo trips, a bit on the heavy side since it's cast iron but it makes great pancakes. Cheers!

Maybe when I feel extra daring, with some tweaks to the recipe. Cheers!

as a South Aussie , a Sanger is anything in bread, hot cold toasted or fried
That leads to the eternal question, is a burger really a Sanger? Cheers Steve!
