Holy hell, what a great tutorial! I’ve been scouring the Internet for information on dash cams for the same year Jeep, and finally found a no fluff, straightforward video that is going to save me loads of time and money! These are the kind of channels I would support with Patreon subscriptions. Good job buddy. I’ll be trying this install on the Jeep. Sorry thieves and bad drivers
Just had a mio5 dual F&R installed in my 2018 GMC canyon, used the optional hardwire harness, worked like a charm. The parking feature is a nice perk. Hired a pro installer to put it in, well worth it IMO. Took the guy an hour, can't see any wires anywhere. No need to mess around with the camera, it does its thing automatically. The video quality off this camera is excellent.
Finally got around to getting this connector, man what a pain in the rear. Our jeep came with some camera and a rain sensor on this housing, was hardly any room in there, ended up with the usb on the outside of the casing. Something to keep in mind if you also have some extra features.
Do you have an easy way to tap into non-switched power so I can leave my cam on in 'parked monitoring mode'? I got a Wolfbox G900. The power cables that came with it have a voltage converter in a small box, and it will auto shut off the dashcam if the supply voltage gets too low. It's small enough I can stick to the windshield behind the mirror. I just need "always on" 12 volts up around the mirror. Maybe there is non-switched power in the upper console?
This is brilliant! To echo another comment I've seen in here, is there a minimal wire approach to a rear dash cam you could work out? Will be the deciding factor of whether or not I get a professional to install or take it on myself. Thanks again mate!
Woow. Thanks man for this tip. I was excluding installing dashcam because of the hassle of running cable to cigarette lighter socket. This clean and neat method is something else 👍.
Hey Vlad! This may be worth mentioning. Mine has a slighly different plastic case because of a few more options in my 21 overland but all is able to happen without removing the mirror. Same steps but slightly less actions. Thx again for this.
Yeah I know, there's 3 different variants. Thank you. The one I have is the most common amongst GCs, so I didn't mention it. Process is pretty much the same.
Question: I m wanting to know if I have to turn off my dashcam every time I get out of the car and then turn it back on when I get back in or does it cut power from this adapter when you shut off the car and then it powers back on when I start the car?
@@thisguyvlad17 I connected my Vantrue camera exactly how you showed into my 2016 Grand Cherokee but it still powers off when I exit the car and never goes into park mode to record. Any issues with the park mode for you?
Will this record when the car is off and locked? This is what I’m looking for. New car, bad drivers out there in parking lots. Also jerks that randomly key paint or door jam.
Yes it will. It has internal power from a super capacitor and has a built in G-sensor with different sensitivity levels and when triggered it will record for 1 min.
@@thisguyvlad17do only certain cameras work with this install for park mode? My Vantrue has park mode on but the power from the rear window usb goes off when I exit the car. I have a 75th anniversary edition Jeep grand Cherokee.
Hi. I'm having a problem removing the first cover in the video. Couldn't I just twist the entire thing to remove the mirror without first removing that cover?
I guess I answered my own question, I just went outside and checked my 21 Grand Cherokee Laredo e and it does not have a power rear view mirror. There is some kind of a box next to it I wonder if I could tap into that. What do you think
Been looking for ways to make my 2020 Jeep GC Trailhawk my own, your channel is great man, hope to see more! I saw your previous lighting video but was wondering if the Morimoto XB LEDs were something you would consider, I certainly love the look of them.
LIVE parking mode, you would have to connect to a constant 12V source that's with all cameras. The camera I use, records when the accelerometer is triggered by a hit or bump.
I’m going to try this method out. I did NOT want to go through the engine fuse box and figure how to wire it through the interior to install it on the wind shield. See how difficult that already sounds?
I searched the comments and didn't see anything. Does the camera power on automatically when you start the vehicle, or do you have to power on the camera each time?
Love this idea, was literally about to start hunting down fuseboxes in the new car (2016). Slight confusion as your amazon link goes to a Type-H plug, and your box in the video says Type-D plug ?
@@thisguyvlad17 Thanks - makes sense, I can't see them wiring the auto-dim for non-ignition power. This really helps with getting a dashcam, I've been holding off because I didn't feel like snaking wires all over the place.

Yes.. Miofive 4k Dashcam.. I purchased all 3 items as you described.. When connecting the adapter the rearview mirror is powered but nothing that I connect to the USB port powers on. Only thing I don't have on my jeep now is the Auxiliary Battery but I don't think that should be an issue.
