First heard this track in my scruffy little flat in Chester uk when the album came out. It blew my mind, I had never heard anything like it before. My pal said to me "you will not be listening to this music when you are 30".. Well here I am 73, still listening to Neil Young and listening to this brilliant version of a legendary song.
Same age. Still love to play and sing this song in D. Molly Tuttle is so amazing. Saw her with Old Crow Medicine Show at the Ryman. Best concert I've ever seen. Cheers!
As a guy who was born and raised in a town in North Ontario, I follow your lead and add my vote of appreciation, and as a long time Molly fan, no suprise she nails it, and the band is superb !
HUGE Neil fan here, and this cover is superb. Molly's no slouch on the strings and really plays some inspired links on this. Fiddle was on point too. Anyone who says there isn't any great music happening needs to hear this and shut it!
I think you'll find it's case of knowing where to look 🤣. Harvest was the best-selling album of 1972 (when I was 18). I hardly know anybody who has even heard of Molly, but that is in the UK.
Blue Blue Windows behind the Stars ✨, Yellow Moon 🌕 on the Right, Big Birds flying across the Sky, Throwing Shadows on our Eyes, Leaves me Helpless Helpless Helpless. RIP Mom, it’s been one month today since my beautiful mom died and I am indeed Helpless Helpless Helpless
1993 I got front row tix to see Neil in Austin, Tx. Ate a bunch of mushrooms before the show and was flying. The curtains open an Neil is playing the pipe organ and busts out this tune. A moment forever saturated into my melon
You know Neil doesn't mess around in concert. He goes all out. I saw him in 99 and he played one of the longest shows I have ever seen and I have seen a lot of shows.
I used to sing this in a band …., around the time …… “ The Last Waltz “was released , you bring tears to my eyes ….. Molly ….. just beautiful …….. beautiful … well done ….. just .. beautiful ……….
Molly is a siren. I know this because every time I hear her sing, I'm in love. It's a voice that cuts straight to my soul. Her playing is pure magic too. Absolutely gorgeous as well. It's the trifecta of beauty that I'm completely helpless 😉 against
Such a tasteful solo...what a musician! It fit the song so well...she's capable of absolutely ripping, but (to me) the restraint and note choice here demonstrate just how much she feels this song. Great rendition!
This is one of the songs that defined my teenage years. Wistful and lonesome, but still very soothing and cathartic. Molly really expresses the mood of this piece and the guys are true to it as well. Many of Neil's songs have a timeless quality and may remain relevant for many generations to come.
I'm in that northern ontario town right now. Neil young's childhood home is ten miles from here. ....its nice to see people still diggn this tune.....peace yall
Once the pandemic has passed, there will be long lines at venues across America to see and listen to performers who have honed their skills during this time.
@@MeneerHerculePoirot You’re more likely right than wrong at this point. There are so many variables, though. Also consider that flu pandemics die out. Not after taking millions, to be sure. But they do die out.
Molly's guitar embellishments are so beautiful, the fills so melodic as to take my breath away. Thank You Molly. Got into Bluegrass through "Old and In The Way in '73. So glad to know that You spur a furtive scene of Musicians to carry it all on.
Jesus, that’s good. Best example I’ve heard of a band making the perfect space for a lead singer. I’ve heard Molly do this song live, solo, a few times & I’ve always loved it. Nice to hear it with backing that she and the song both deserve.
Never heard Molly Tuttle before, but anything Neil Young gets my attention. Molly Tuttle is a great singer and guitar player - best cover of “Helpless” I’ve ever heard!
As a die hard Neil Young fan who bought his first 45 years many many years ago, this song has accompanied me on many adventures and good times. So good to hear you play it. Heart of Gold.
This is my FAVORITE Neil Young song, I am 74 and grooved to it in my teens in the 60’s. Great job on the vocal and the accompaniment just a good testament to Neil.
78 here and remember that song well....I have a Neil Young fan from his early beginnings with Buffalo Springfield. I have been a fan Of Molly since her Rise release, she is so talented! This is the best cover I have heard of Neil's Helpless.
i actually am at a loss for anything that would even remotely do justice to her rendition of one of my favorite young songs. if angels could sing this is what they'd sound like.
I can never hear this song without hearing Joni Mitchel's sidestage backing vocals to Neil Young and The Bands rendition at the Last Waltz. This comes close. X
Neil Young will always be a big influence to all generations on this planet. I'm wonder'n if any Ontarions applaud at Molly's concert playing "Helpless", and the word Ontario comes up? Molly is a great guitarist and banjo player, so glad to find her and others shining amongst other type of musical genre?
Molly Tuttle's cover of this song really woke me up to the meaning of this tune for me. I'm 60 years old, and after living almost 31 years on my farm in northern Wisconsin, my reasons to stay here, wrong or right, have always been greatly influenced by this concept..."all my changes were there." I was a young city boy back then. My wife, my kids didn't exist for me at that time, but they do now. The beauty, the familiarity, the belonging... all have thrown shadows on my eyes to make a decision to leave. Thank you, Molly
Same from a guy born and raised in a town whose name means land of the the wild goose in Ojibway. A very strong favourite amongst all who lived there, powerful songwriting, and an incredible version from a world class talent.
Molly Tuttle always seems to make the right choices rhythmically. She is a bad ass rhythmatist, as demonstrated here. She always nails tempos too. She pays attention to the right stuff. I'm endlessly impressed.
I only heard Molly for the first time just yesterday, a cover of She's a Rainbow. I can't think when I've been so moved by an artist, any artist of any kind, the piercing soulfulness... alacrity, love.
One great song played by some fine musicians. Thanks a bunch Molly. I can't decide which one is best, if your singing or your guitar playing. As it even matters. You are the whole package. Man, what a gift for the ears and for the brain.
DAMN, but this is a gorgeous rendition. I'm ashamed that I didn't know Molly Tuttle until now: her voice and guitar playing are heaven-sent, and she definitely knows how to make a song her own. Brava, Ms. Tuttle, bravi to the group.
Neil Young is one of my favorite musical artists of all time, and I’ve always loved this song. Yet, with all do respect to Neil and his incredible recording of his song...I believe this version is now my favorite.
Since a few weeks I'm 60 y.o. I've heard a lot; Neil Young, Jackson Brown, Joni Mitchell, Boni Rait, Linda Ronstadt, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, you name it. But this ....is so good... it's so powerfull, pure redemption

Very good singing and band. You have done this song great justice!
Let's tell them. Great idea.
I'd love to hear a Molly Tuttle/Tyler Childers duet.
Together with Brandi Carlile, of course !
