That 64mb Storage was a dream to like many gamers in 2000
Yeah that is a fact.
Even 8mb was not enough when you got a good collection 🤨
Yes, I bought a ps2 with an 8 and 2 years later I still got hella storage
@@isaac2bands I had 153 games how much did u got
@Jimmy Plumber oh yeah
Yeah you could storage your entire game library's save files
Man this is just freaking awesome! 😀I was going to get a ps5 as soon as lockdown ends and the shops reopen again, but I'm just going to get this instead, enjoy all the classics and wait till Ps5 comes down in price. I'm going to order a good condition fat PS2, an HDMI adapter, the mcboot memory card with sata adapter, a ps1 memory card and an extra controller with 2 extension lead cables. I'm going to put a couple of hundred of the best ps1 games and around 500 of the best PS2 games on a 2 tb hard drive. Thanks for the inspiration wicked! 😀👍

I just bought one of these! Keep up the awesome videos.
Always waiting for new vids 😁 regards be safe be positive 😄
The combination of FreeMcBoot and a hard drive seems the ideal mod for the PS2 FAT.
Its also possible on the slim but that requires soldering a ide cable to the motherboard and only on the 7000 models. I been looking into trying that.
@@batterypwrlow
It is, right...!
It still requires an FMCB-MC to boot it though.
@@batterypwrlow I didn’t know that. Thanks for the tip.
What does this do?
@@MustangGuy2000 run emulators, download homebrew, run backups of games you own...
I've been running my PS2 games from a 400 GB IDE hard drive for about 8 years now. I agree that configuring everything is a royal PITA, but once you have everything right, it's well worth it.
Yeah it's a great way to play those games do you use OPL or that Backup Loader ?
@@WickedGamerCollector I do use OPL, mainly the official stable release. I use the daily build sporadically 'cause I do't trust its stability that much. Once I learn how to configure my hard drive to play PS1 games, I'll use the daily build more often. Have a good one!
So I'm interested in getting into the hard drive thing later, , but for now I have some American PlayStation games, and a Japanese PlayStation 2 phat. Will this McBoot allow me to play my American CD PlayStation 2 games?
@@modernNeanderthal800 Yes
@@jaxcyl1-t4b thanks!
I've had troubles with ISO files crashing like with the original Jack and Daxter.
I've also had problems with hands lagging just a little like in Baulders gate.
Any advice/ suggestions? I have upgraded to a 1TB hard drive, but maybe the read speeds are too slow
Great video i like how you combined McBot with the HDMI dongle
Boot... 2 "o"...
Pluging a Dongle to the console is nothing special either!
i bought a PS2 at goodwill today surpisingly it had the network adapter with it i couldnt say no lol
Nice! Did it have a hard drive inside too? Or was it a slim?
Unfortunately no HDD< I thought it might have been moded all ready so thats why I bought it
I put my own inside though
All videos make me smile. Your so funny. "but first a litle bit of ASRM"
got like bundle of these laying around faulty, well as long as the mainboard works i would just grab one plug it on the network. got a crappy router somewhere with an external attached to it and fires up OPL. works like a dream. Coupled with component out for better quality, awesome stuff. Use to play some divx files from back it the day but now mostly emulators.
There were many different MB variations for the PS2 Memory Card in 2000 besides the 8MB. The 16MB, 32MB, and as usual the 64MB, and finally the 128MB. But some people tend to have problems with the 16, 32, 64, and 128MBs such as taking forever to load a game or cheat code enhancer disc.
The problems came from the fact Sony only officially made 8mb cards. Any memory cards that aren't 8mb are third party and not made by sony so they might be less reliable.
If it is Magic Gate memory card 64mb it's same time load then 8mb original Sony(by Magic Gate), the worst card is named "Max memory" from Datel even the 16 mb has loading times twice as long (to be avoided!, I was disappointed at the time to have bought it when they appeared on the market), as well as other brands than magic gate which I think are the only ones to be the fastest, even with a large memory. I bought mine in China but magic gate brand 64mb and the loading is fast, identical to the original 8mb, which both have fmcb installed. Depend of the brand...
You can also repair a corrupt card in slot 2 thanks to the fmcb installer of an fmcb card in slot 1, 100% reliable. You can delete the corrupted (damaged) saves, and keep your other games' saves intact. It should be known, from what I understand, is that many have thrown away their corrupted cards, and/or have become enraged at not having their backup (150h FF X for example). The only way is to go through the FMCB installer to remove these files.
@@reasonable78 sony never made memory cards
For an added layer of drive options with the network card adapter, getting an ide or sata to SD or microSD card adapter?
Note: The USB option for the Slim model is a bad idea, because some games require high bandwidth to stream FMV in full speed which will stutter. A mini-router with SMB server capability (that includes a USB port) is great to stream games directly into the Etherenet port on the back of the Slim console, as well as migrate it hassle-free to any other another PS2 console, provided you've got the appropriate FMCB card or mod chip ready.
Been using free mcboot in my ps2 with a sata drive for a while now. Haven't had a problem yet, love it
Is there any slow down or does it play fine?
I bought a FreeMCBoot memory card a while ago and it's hands down the best thing I spent money on. One thing I was also able to use it for was to make a copy of my PS2 bios and use it on PCSX2. that's specifically why I got the memory card. Then I found out about playing PS2 games from a micro SD card with the MC2SIO memory card. And the coolest thing about it, it doesn't need to be chipped
I ordered one is is much more complicated than putting Isos on the usb and playing?
@@wilfredwayne7139I don’t even know if you can do that, I’m super confused too. I think you have to have the original copy of the game to put it on a DVDR disc and put some shit in it called ESR and then you can play the game (if that is the case that’s super gay) . I bought a copy of Silent Hill 3 that someone tried to sell as a ‘reproduction copy’ and I couldn’t get that to work, I plugged in an FMCB card I bought from Ebay and tried to play the disc from the main menu of the FMCB but the ps2 couldn’t read it, so I’m confused as to wether this ‘reproduction copy’ of Silent Hill 3 actually has ESR patched on it already or not.. super weird
Cool N all got the full shabang setup myself, but nothing can beat physical CIB copies with artwork, game manuals and guidebooks
It depends... Of course an original game is better than any copy (I am a collector myself.), BUT it CAN "beat" originals in any other way, like short loading-times; access to the whole collection without using any disc; not wearing out the laser; ability to use VMC, PADEMU, IGR, IGS, Cheats and so on...
@@tnaplastic2182 True. Not so sure if having access to the full library is a pro or con, personally I tend to get bored since there is too much stuff to choose from, and having everything at my finger tips destroy the purpose of going out hunting best value for the cheapest price, but that's just me. And if you are a sucker for OG artworks like for example level-5 studio stuff, it's a tufff battle. Most likely the deffo package is to have best of both worlds so to speak
the ps2 games that you are testing has a good resolution. what kind of minitor are you using? or are you using and upscaler
idk if you still read comments here. First of all thx for the whole tutorial. I wanted to know how you have the whole PS2 connected to get that quality of image, are you using the Component cables with the HD adapter?
I've found a Network Adapter for very cheap in a pawn shop. Nowdays, i moved out in France but i brought my PS2 with it, along with the Network Adapter, an Hard Drive and most of my games stored on it.
I just bought one of these, they're on Amazon Prime, It was delivered today. Now I'm just waiting for the hard drive adapter.
103u
is the hard drive required
Bro ill order the same things tomorrow
One important issue I would stress is make sure memory card is magic gate. My FMCB magic gate card is problem free. Non magic gate fmcb card has hiccup and other non magic gate card won't accept FMCB- Non compatible so for trouble free, stick with magic gate cards. I followed youtube tutorials on how to make your own FMCB card from internal hard drive and from other FMCB card and that's what I learned and was stressed!!! I swear by my 64mb memory card in first slot for game saves. 1.966 FMCB magic gate card in second slot. 500 GB sata card plugged in by network adapter. FMCB OPL to play games off of sata card. Never knew phat ps2 was so great!!!!
I am trying to play a ps2 game that I bought in Japan. I’ve plugged in the fmcb into my silver ps2, but I have no idea where to go from there. And the game still doesn’t work. P.S my ps2 was purchased in Australia. Are you able to assist?
I love how everytime he says any package from china, he's just like "Op! sent from CHINA!!"
I should google :) , but when getting the mods for the fat model so you can have games on a sata drive, what are the options for transferring games to the harddisk? First probably format the HD a certain way (fat32?), then before installing into the ps2, hook it up as an external drive to your pc so you can drag & drop iso's? Can you use a FTP program to connect the ps2 with your pc? Are there options on the free mc boot card to rip games from the dvd drive onto the installed harddrive?
Nice video
I got a phatie for free but was kinda dummed when I realized I needed to burn a disc with freedvd
I bought a memory card and hopefully it will work
Hey luv your videos question would this work on the original Japan consoles?
It should work with all fat ps2's so it should work for an original , if by original you mean the first model
Are these mcboot cards plug and play or do I need a pc to use it? I don’t really understand the other tutorials on UA-cam because they all seem to be “how to install free mcboot to a card” but not “how to use mcboot card”. I don’t have one so maybe it is plug and play for ps2 games.
Can you use the fmcb memory card to play disc backups without having an external hard drive on the slim?
I'm not interested in storing games or using emulation, I have a xbox for that.
I just want to use game disc backups.
Feed back is appreciated
Yes It can used with disc backups
We have a modded PS2 slim (later model) and I want to access GMS somehow. Do I need a DVD burned?
So if I get this and put it in a ps2 slim it will allow me to play a ps1 game via component to hdmi on a new hdtv? Cause I tried putting in a ps1 game in today via component and it went to no signal but plays all my ps2 games fine .
I bought a Gundam Gold edition Ps2 and I’m getting the Red screen of death. Would this help,or does it need to be cleaned? Please help 🙁
Hello,
First of all I have slim version and all I need is a memory card from the link and some external HDD, is that correct?
Thanks for reply
Little tip connect the hd to the pc and use winhip to install on the drive, rip the iso on pc it's much quicker and saves the ps2 laser.

Mine are already ripped to image files. Can I just copy the images to the hdd and plug it into my ps2 slim?
@@majorgear1021 yes you can but still transfer via winhip program.
@@majorgear1021 i think theres a program to run the iso's through to make them playable that way
Just wondering how the SMB share (playing games over network on the slim) compare to the internal HDD on the fat PS2.
edit: found some interesting info for anyone interested.
*HDD ATA interface: ATA-66 (Roughly 66MB/s).
*Ethernet interface: 100Mbit (Or 12.5MB/s).
*USB 1.1 interface: 12Mbit (~1.5 MB/s).
*CD/DVD drive: 24x speed CD-ROM [3.6 MB/s], 4x speed DVD-ROM [5.28 MB/s].
The ethernet at 12.5MB/s is still considerably a lot slower than the PS2's internal HDD's 66MB/s, but faster than USB 1.1 and even the DVD. That's if games actually do load at 12.5MB/s. 🤔
It's not 12 mbps. It's faster than USB a Lot faster but nothing like I've seen in the videos of HDD I'm so jealous hahaha
Another downside is that I've found certain games that don't work on SMB. (For example many Splinter cell games don't work in SMB idk why)
I bought the 64mb variation after putting it in it did not launch FMCB by itself. I clicked on browse and looked what was on the memory card. after that I press O to exit and the menu opened. I turned it off and got my USB out to put games on it. I put Need for speed most wanted on it and put the USB back in powerd the PlayStation again. and now I doesn't open de FMCB menu anymore.
Could you help me?
Recently got a PS2 Slim for free since someone was just going to toss it out. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be able to read discs. I was hopeful it was simply the mechanism that detects if the lid is shut that was the problem, but the laser assembly also seems to be damaged. Still, while I won't be able to use the system to create a McBoot Memory Card, the prices for them are quite reasonable even compared to blank memory cards. This will also give me the option of using my original Phat (which has a hard time reading dual layer DVDs) and doing an something like an IDE to SATA to solid state solution. I've also heard that network storage is a decent option, so whichever way I go about things, it will breathe new life into these systems.
Doesn’t need to read discs , Only display matters if your using Mcboot and SD card
@@winstonchurchill5731 Exactly, that's why it's a good option for my systems with bad drives.

Many different ways by the way 👌
So I just bought a Japanese PS2. Will I need this to play the American games? And will I need to keep this in to play them forever?
Hi thank you so much for this video explainer, quick questions, can you use downloaded ps1 games with this method as well? Also, can you play roms such as snes, sega genesis, n64 roms etc from the hard drive too? And how does it work with multi disc ps1 & ps2 games, does it run like a regular ps2? And finally, do you know how to transfer save games from another ps2 memory card onto an fmcb one, or is it best not to have save games on that memory card?
You can indeed play PS1 games only this needs an other methode to install the games.
And if works with all games I don't know for sure.
Retro gaming it's possible with some 8 or 16-bit games only going full retro mode it's a no go.
