Its a shame the slim ps2s didnt have a normal way to connect hard drives like the phat models because the slims came with a higher cpu clock speed so the games just generally ran better on them. Ive seen whats come of the phat ps2s I cant imagine how much more the slims could do if given the proper workarounds
Yeah, the big problem with anything USB-related on the PS2 is the fact that it uses USB 1.1 which is too slow to stream FMVs. Right now the best way to play on original hardware is an internal HDD on the fat models, the new MX4SIO way is also really good but as of yet still has a lot of incompatible games. Also an awesome mod if you have a 7000x specifically not a 7500x or 7700x you can solder in an IDE plug and connect a IDE to SD adapter to that to run Free HDD Boot from it and all of your games without having anything visible from the outside of the console!

Granted I did not watch the entire video, but viewers should know that the usb on the slim is only 1.1, so it will be slow and the movies will sometimes skip. The better solution is to use ethernet via samba. If you get this kit, you will not be able to run all the games smoothly. The best is to buy a fat with the hdd.
@@mehdijlif6717 some of the n64 games ran crappy,I mean the gamecube and wii games ran like they should since its running on the actual hardware but I had problems with n64 games running right.especially star wars the empire strikes back, the graphics had like beta textures on the back grounds and some textures lol. it has a white texture and in the middle was red lettering that said "texture1" or "texture 2" like they were place holders.I think it wasnt loading ion the actual texture and that was a designation of what went there if it loaded in right
I've been trying every method for different usecases... Since I got two PS2s for LAN play in the same room, I didn't want to do a Samba share, and I couldn't use a SATA HDD with the fake network adapter, at least for LAN (I could still keep a huge library of single-player games there, though). I ended up getting two memory card SD card mods, MX4SIO, and hopefully I put the LAN games on that, with regular network adapters.
The HDD you are using is the type that Will get its power from the system if you use a HDD with its own power supply it may load better but as you said will still have some minor hiccups but overall if you love ps2 this option will extend the laser life if it still works as you are playing backups on a hdd

Hello, I have a ps2 slim console. While playing games with a USB memory stick, I experience constant freezing and lag in cut scenes. I don't want to open the console and connect a hard disk and I don't want to buy an ethernet router. So do you think I should connect harddisk with usb or ssd with usb? Is there a freezing, lag difference between the two or do they both give the same performance?

i feel like the best solution to adding storage would be to put the hard drive into a computer you own and setting it up to be a network share and using OPL. It would up the bandwidth between the ps2 and the game storage

Good for you that you have all of those disc based systems! I have 4 PS2 slims and 3 are unopened. 2 unopened Wiis an unopened 360 and an unopened XBOX. I always try to buy more than one disc based systems.

Hey how did you do that? I have tried to connect the PS2 Slim with SSD and USB and USB STick FAT32 and there are no games to find in OpenLoader but i have saved the games why? What is my mistake?
@@AnyMovie yes it works now. I have found out myself. 1.) connect your external HDD/SSD or your USB Stick to your PS1 and start OpenLoader PS2 normally. 2.) After Open Loader has Loading and see you Stick or external Drive you can take out this and connect to the USB to your Computer. 3.) Now if you open your Stick or external drive you see that some folders have been created automatically from PS2. 4.) Next you can save your PS2 iso's to (if you have DVD iso games than save this games to folder DVD its important!) CD PS2 games to the folder CD. You have to look out that your PS2 CD game iso's too because FAT32 dosesn't recognize Bin or Cue data (its what I think) you can convert Bin/Cue data with Programm "Any to Iso" it works for me perfectly If your PS2 games are larger than 4GB you need the programm " USBUtil v2.0 Full" and you have to create image with the PS2 games which are larger than 4GB. The data have been splittedt in for ecample 1GB files automatically. I have saved this splitted files to my HDD on PC not to FAT32 formated SSD because there comes lots of errors... if you have done this you have to save this splitted game files to your stick normally (not in any folders only save it there) If you put your USB Stick to your PS2 you will see that OpenLoader load your games. (be aware you have to set in OPL that your USB Stick or HDD will recocnise automatically. If some games cannot start because its fragmented you have to defrag your USB drive than these games should be run. I hope i can help you with my advice.

Hardware wise I very much prefer the fat PS2 of course, as its all internal with no cables and whatever sensitive hardware dingling around. But: Transferring games to the internal hard drive is a major PITA, because that HDL stuff only works in odd years, with full moon on fridays 13th!

128 Gb exFat works great, tested as usb flashdrive on usb, and as usb card on mx4sio adapter. And there is no need to divide the game files into fragments.
can some one help me i have an 500GB HDD it does not recognize any games but when i open ulaunchelf it can show me the files int the mass section btw i formatted the HDD to fat32 and putted the games in the DVD folder any one know how to fix this thanks
if you need to make the hard going faster in loading or not going to be unsync with audio you will have to defragment the data in the hard using any free defragment software
The main problem with USB is loading times are slower and some games have problems. You need to do more tinkering with some of them. Check OPL Game Support list online.

its not good, I had a modded wii and it could run games through emulation but things like the n64 just dont run good on it

The USB ports on ps2s weren't designed to run games just 4 storage hence why its slow. Only other solution for slim models is SMB(ethernet cable)🤷♂️
Try different brands. SanDisk 2.0. smaller is usually faster on USB stick I think. I have no ideas. Just try different ones.

MX4SIO or MC2SIO are the simplest solution with no issues that i have seen yet. of course nothing is 100%

Тут 2 варианта. Либо играть через расшаривание папки по локальной сети. Либо подпаивать IDE и через переходник (если модель слимки позволяет)

Well... I did try both 32GB and 64GB, they both worked but ULaunchElf can only access any USBs if it's formatted as FAT32
