Amazing song as are most of The Bee Gees’ songs.Their voices together or individually are beyond comparison…other worldly! Barry and the boys wrote simply fantastic music from happy to sad to tender to loving…all of it.
Accord to their biography, the BeeGee’s wrote all the songs in the Saturday Night Fever in two weeks!!!! Two weeks!! Amazing music, amazing songwriters & singers.
I saw an interview yesterday where they had written them to record in Paris where they were working on the album when they got the the call and was asked to write for the low budget film and gave them the plot of the film and they said they didn't have time to write but they have some songs they could see if they liked them. They used everyone they the brothers played for them. The brothers took a week to put the final touches on them and didn't hear them again until the premiere. I think it's so cool. And none of them ever learned to read music.
This was the live tour performance in year 1979..Barry and the gibb brothers were on, the stage.....this was gorgeous..4 brothers on the stage to perform🎉🎉
Girl, you can't even imagine how much fun we had! A lot of people said they hated disco, but I think they secretly liked it. The disco era was FABULOUS!
A real world sensation Dani, a film that changed the cultural perception of an entire generation overnight. In this video, the best dance act in cinema history and John Travolta divides the dance floor like Moses the Red Sea 😎🕺, Millions of youg people floated (including me😜) into the dance schools to learn the cool disco moves from him, escorted to the fantastic music of the Bee gees.
The Bee Gees’ sound evolved from pop to R&B in what became the disco music era, but it was their falsetto that was their unmistakable trademark… and it came about by accident many years into their career. In the HBO documentary “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” surviving Bee Gee, Barry Gibb, takes viewers inside the studio, showing archival footage performing with his brothers Maurice and Robin and honing their signature sound. In 1975, the band took the advice of veteran rocker Eric Clapton and went down to Miami to record their first album since the split at Criteria Studios in 1969. “I thought those guys were really an R&B band that hadn’t really worked that out yet, and I thought, man, this would be so good if they could pick up on what’s going on in America,” Clapton said. Also Read: The Bee Gees' Disco Classic 'Stayin' Alive' Didn't Start Out as a Dance Tune It was in Miami that the Bee Gees began experimenting with new sounds, piggybacking on the influence of R&B and shows like “Soul Train.” While recording “Nights on Broadway,” producer Arif Mardin asked that someone harmonize while screaming in the background, Maurice remembered. That was the first time Barry sang falsetto. “I was thinking, my god, where is this coming from? I can do this. My whole life I never knew I could do this,” Barry joked. “Everybody’s giving me credit,” Mardin said in the film. “No, he was singing it. I said, ‘Keep on doing it.'” The band soon embraced disco and dance music, making use of Barry’s falsetto, which he wields with almost astonishing ease. “We found another sound; we found a new sound. I came up with a lot of new ideas to suit the falsetto,” Barry remembered. “Everybody was saying the same thing: ‘Do that falsetto again, do that falsetto again.’ It was fine for me; I was having a ball.”
I was born in the early sixty's. Coming into my own in the 70's. The Bee Gees made a big impression on me. I am a huge fan. In the clip that you show of the band I can see Andy. This is the first clip that I've seen with him singing with his brothers. Thank You for sharing that. I was able to download it for my Bee Gees collection. Thank You
Dani, when the side clip goes to the Bee Gees singing, you can see who I believe is Andy Gibb singing with brother Maurice. Andy is the youngest brother who passed away...
Fun fact. John Travolta wasn’t dancing to the Bee Gees in this clip or the entire movie Saturday Night Fever, he was dancing to Stevie Wonder. The Bee Gees involvement didn’t start until the film was in post production. All they were given was brief concept and rough script to write a whole soundtrack for. Ended up being the best selling movie soundtrack of all time.
Correct John travolta as Tony manero in Saturday night was dancing to boss scaggs lowdown but was refused permission to use this song in Saturday night fever
Whomever hated disco were people with no rhythm, with lead feet, and probably unhappy or jealous individuals. Disco and dancing is so much fun and it brings people together, no matter what ethnicity. Super fun. Love love the disco era and all things Bee Gees, no matter what genre.
One of my favorite videos because Andy is performing with his brothers. Dani, when I saw the name of the video, I smiled and I hoped that you'd have a video with John dancing. Thanks for your reaction.... enjoyed it. Take care and be well. Peace.
Dani, in my opinion you can't beat the Bee Gees' yellow album, titled, Best of the Bee Gees. Every song on the album is great. Here's a link to my favorite song.... put your headphones on, sit back and relax and have a listen to Barry singing his song to you. He sings to me every time Iisten to this song. lol ua-cam.com/video/cvKmh_jWC5c/v-deo.html
I agree - that note is astounding. This makes me want to dance too! So much fun. I never saw Saturday Night Fever and I was surprised at how good of a dancer John Travolta is. Good reaction, Dani.
Great reaction to the Bee Gees, "Should Be Dancing." You're right, It was a great period in music and having fun dancing to music that celebrated life (other music in that period included).
You may of may not have noticed that their youngest brother, Andy Gibb, joined his brothers in this video. A rarity, since they long denied him to join the Bee Gees because they wanted him to have his own career (even though they helped produce and sang on his solo album, Shadow Dancing). As for their pre-disco stuff, I still suggest Fanny (Be Tender With My Love), Words, Holiday and they did a "duet" with Samantha Sang in 1994 (obviously, post-disco) which became a hit, Emotions.
I believe the gal he is dancing with in the beginning is Fran Drescher(Fran Fine) from " The Nanny". Love the Beegee's! Great reactions to the dancing and notes they hit. Enjoy!
Notice the youngest brother Andy Gibb singing with the older 3 in this. He wasn't considered part of the group, but they were so damn good together and the backed him up on his hit.
One more thing. While they were singing, Morris was sharing the mic with Andy and said there was a moment when he looked down the line at his brothers and was one of his favorite memories.
Andy Gibb is singing on Maurice's mic just right of Barry (best view in this vid is @2:49, @4:30 @4:36 @4:53). He was at least 10 years younger than the twins and 13 years younger than Barry, but he only sang occasionally with his brothers. So when you talk about them being an "echo" of one another, take in to factor that in this version, Andy is in there harmonizing with them OUCH! He had a meteoric single's career and was quite the heart throb. Unfortunately, he fell to drugs, so his meteor faded quickly. If anyone could have given him reason to dump drugs it would have been his girlfriend, Victoria Principal whom he dated until she couldn't handle his drug use.
Nice reaction, Dani. I was patiently waiting to see your expression when you heard "that note!" You didn't disappoint me. :) And yes, you were born in the wrong era. Recommended falsetto song, "How Deep is Your Love" (which is a lot of regular voice as well) ....recommended pre-falsetto songs, "I Started a Joke" or "Massachusetts."
I've watched just three of your video's so far. I noticed you frowning to the other ones but I think it was because it's so intense. But watching you watch You Should Be Dancing you were relaxed and smiling. The other video's like I said before you were frowning but really just relax when you hear them in a slower song and you will enjoy such talent like you have never have heard before! I have just subscribed and I am watching you discover the BeeGees and it will be a real treat!
I’m not really frowning... it’s just that as an artist myself I feel the extremes when I listen to music. I’m just intently and passionately listening to the song, always enjoying the music!
Great reaction! Some early pre-Disco\Falsetto Bee Gees songs to check out. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart I've Got to Get a Message to You To Love Somebody Words New York Mining Disaster 1941 Massachusetts Some great ones to still check out from the Disco era How Deep Is Your Love Love So Right Night on Broadway Jive Talkin
Some good ones from before disco, I started a joke, New York mining disaster 1941, Edge of the universe, Song bird, First of may. Just a few but so many others.
The Bee Gees are far more than their Disco-era music, but, damn, it was wonderful stuff! Definitely takes me back to hearing their tunes on the radio when I was young.
A couple of pre disco Bee Gees songs that come to mind immediately are Massachusetts, New York Mining Disaster 1941, and Words. Words was also covered by Elvis.
Their younger brother Andy Gibb is on stage with them. He had #1 hits as a solo artist and sadly he was the first Gibb brother we lost. These days it's only Barry. There's a video on youtube called Barry Gibb: The Last Bee Gee. I can't bring myself to watch it.
If not previously mentioned... I believe the video of a concert or TV appearance includes their much younger brother, Andy. He became a Teen Idol and big star on his own. Unfortunately, by the time he was 35, drugs, and depression... despite rehab stints and apparent recovery... had affected his health and he died of a heart condition. The Brothers were planning to include him permanently into the Bee Gee's. It was quite tragic. Also, that echo effect, I believe, is done electronically. If not, it would be a hell of an effect vocally!! Finally... this Disco Era almost overwhelmed EVERYthing else pop-music wise for quite a few years. It WAS great dance music, that's for sure!! Thanks for revisiting a Fun Time in many of our lives. Carry On, Dani !!!
Hey Dani, I know it has been brought up before, but you need to listen to their song Tragedy, Barry and his brothers just kill it with this one, probably my favorite of The Bee Gees, and that is tough for me to say, because I love all of their songs, but this one just spoke to me.
I've been a John Travolta fan since 1976, when he was starring in such movies as "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" and "Carrie" and the hit TV show, "Welcome Back Kotter". So sorry to hear his wife (Kelly Preston) passed away July 12, 2020. This is one of the underappreciated songs by the Bee Gees from that Saturday Night Fever album.
There's a little brother Andy you get to see him singing with this older brothers there he used to do that once in awhile when they could get together they sing together and especially this song this is the one they sang the most together but you should definitely look at Andy Gibb's songs individually cuz he was an individual artist in his own right and very very talented.
Dani, check out "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees. One of their best. An ironic note about the Bee Gees; of the four brothers, the only one left is Barry, the oldest. The three younger brothers have passed away.
@@DaniAtkinson Stay tuned. Barry just made a new album in Nashville with country artists like Dolly Parton re-recording some of his great hits. This is coming out soon and should be great
This ended up being very special for them because youngest brother Andy performed it with him, Andy died five days after his thirtieth birthday, you should check him out as he had a number of number one songs at the same time Andy Gibb
In indianapolis we have an oldies dance club called Howl at the Moon. They are a franchised club so there may be one close to you. Also, you didn’t mention it, but the 4th brother, Andy Gibb, was on stage with them in your reaction video. He is the brother that passed away in 1988 at 30 years old. I am sure that helped the echo response, having his voice blended in with theirs. So much talent in one family!!!
Great job as always, this is why you my favorite for the way you enjoy the songs as well breaking them down. Not sure if I watched the song or you more. Very good looking young woman. God Bless
Dani, watch the new Bee Gees documentary movie that just came out. It was fantastic and will give you perspective on where and how their sound came to be. They went through this whole reinvention of themselves and their music to stay and become more relevant. It was a clean break as they moved to Miami to record new music in 1976, and they got a new label, new band members with existing pedigree, and a then famous R&B producer to give them new direction. And it was because of a push from him at the guys to yell something into the mic to fill the song background that Barry discovered his falsetto. Their new sound, along with the eventual Saturday Night Fever, became the hallmark of the disco era.
A little trivia for you: there used to be a disco dance show in the late 70s called 'Dance Fever' hosted by a dude named Denny Terio. He is the guy who taught Travolta all those moves.
While watching this video, Andy is so happy to be with his brothers on stage singing with them. When you watch the entire video and don’t have the clips of JT. They are great together. So sad Andy did not get to join them as a group! I love The Bee Gees!!!
I never noticed Andy, the youngest brother in the video before. He had a good singing career as a solo artist going himself,so sad that he passed at a young age.. Dani are you a good dancer ?
The first BeeGees hit I remember was "the lights all went down in massachusetts" with Robin Gibb as the main singer, he had a very unusual voice after they returned to UK they wrote it and straight into number 1 it went. They also wrote a lot of music and number 1s for others like "dion Warwicks "heartbreaker". Dion didn't want to do it but her label told her do it or well let you go, it was an amazing job she did of hit.
Hi Dani I just commented on one of your other videos, great reaction again and believe it or not these songs are STILL played quite a bit at a lot of the Jersey shore clubs so I'm sure they're there in NY too. Right now Covid has the dance card so we'll have to wait awhile longer. This dance by Travolta, unlike "More Than a Woman" is very hard to learn and requires quite a bit athletic ability and of course Travolta really nailed this so sadly we'll never look like him but its fun trying! All the best
Dani, I don’t think you’re born in the wrong era. On the contrary, to put in perspective, you are blessed to enjoy music both from bygone eras like the Bee Gees, and music from contemporary era. Digital technology has helped tremendously in this
Hey Dani , Sorry it’s 2 AM and Ive been packing going through stuff all day to get ready for the floors to be done. I found a 1956 Elvis hat that was sold in stores and on the tag is that picture I told you I had of Elvis from I believe 1956 which is a very known picture that is autographed by Elvis. just seen you reacted to you should be dancing by The Bee Gees. Love the song , the movie and of course The Bee Gees. One thing I didn’t remember was that their brother Andy was singing on this song with them. Oh yeah your reaction was pretty good too 😂😂. 🔥🔥🔥 as always. Maybe I won’t be so late for the next video.
All 4 brothers together,awesome!
Those of us who grew up in the 70s and 80s were blessed with incredible music.
Amazing song as are most of The Bee Gees’ songs.Their voices together or individually are beyond comparison…other worldly! Barry and the boys wrote simply fantastic music from happy to sad to tender to loving…all of it.

Brother Andy singing along, so nice.

He and barry had the same voice.
Just found your channel. You are wonderful to listen to and watch. I’ve subscribed.
Thank you so much!! So happy to have you on my channel!!
Great job as always, this is why you my favorite for the way you enjoy the songs as well breaking them down. Not sure if I watched the song or you more. Very good looking young woman. God Bless
Aww John! Thank you so much!!! I love how much you love my reactions!!
You are a beautiful woman with obvious musical skills and talent. Great taste in music and easy on the eyes
Thank you, Eric!! I am glad you are enjoying my channel!!
love your comments & reactions.
While watching this video, Andy is so happy to be with his brothers on stage singing with them. When you watch the entire video and don’t have the clips of JT. They are great together. So sad Andy did not get to join them as a group! I love The Bee Gees!!!
Andy Gibb, "I just want to be Your Everything" or "Shadow Dancing". Andy reminds me of Barry.
I never noticed Andy, the youngest brother in the video before. He had a good singing career as a solo artist going himself,so sad that he passed at a young age..
Dani are you a good dancer ?
Again a nice reaction👍👍i had to move while lustrning rhanks
They were happy counting there no 1 movie soundtrack that was being played world wide!! SHOW ME MY MONEY!!
That's Andy Gibb up there with them. Although he had his own solo career he did perform with them sometimes.
Dani, I don’t think you’re born in the wrong era. On the contrary, to put in perspective, you are blessed to enjoy music both from bygone eras like the Bee Gees, and music from contemporary era. Digital technology has helped tremendously in this
I hope you can come to Saigon one day and dance the night away to 80's fun...
I think we should all go dancing!
John dancing with Karen Lynn Gorney to "More Than A Woman" in Saturday Night Fever" is a beautiful moment. Give that a listen to.
Dani throwing some shapes!
Aww it’s okay!! I know you are working hard!! I want to see the pic!! And yes, this song was so much, I was grooving!! Love you!!
I lived in that neighborhood where Saturday Night Fever was filmed.
