It is a great American film filled great and complex characters and performances. It is gritty and often quite dark. A young Travolta is riveting throughout. I defy you to take your eyes off him. This is not a fluff piece. Deserves every accolade it earned.
Discos were a blast for those of us who loved to dance and party! I also loved Led Zeppelin as well as The Bee Gees, Carole King and Earth, Wind and Fire. What a decade. We had it all!
I highly recommend that you react to The Bee Gees and Andy Gibb You Should Be Dancing Live 1979. They built a light up dance floor for the concerts and this song was always the big finale of the night.

And somehow got fired from the movie studios. So they hired s black guy to finish his dance scenes for the movie. John Travolta said he learned alot from the latter dance instructor. John Travolta. Also had to fight for his rights on the camera scenes because they only wanted to film him abdominal area and up. John wanted the whole body filmed so it was actually him playing his own role during the dance scenes. Grease the movie came out in 1978 or 1979. Way after Saturday night fever. Then in 1980 -1981 john Travolta filmed the movie Urban cowboy. There too he danced.

It's a fairly mediocre movie. Not bad, but there's probably a lot of other things you haven't seen that are better. It captures the lives of young working class people from the outer districts of New York being sucked in by the glamour of Manhattan quite well. If that appeals then by all check it out. If not, then I reckon De Palma's Blow Out is a more enticing Travolta effort from that era.
This was around 1975. grease was after this movie. maybe 1980? he was on Welcome Back Carter before this and did a Stephen King movie right around the same time as this. Is it worth a watch? maybe. it's dated as hell but I enjoyed watching it the last time I saw it about 30 years ago. LOL.

This is Saturday Night Fever. The movie tells a good story. The music and dancing were awesome. But sadly the acting was pretty bad.
