At 38 mins he talks about his sheer brilliant part on Weller's song. I'd like to say The Jam were nothing without Foxton, an absolute genius bass player.
Really enjoyed your interview. As a teenager, searching for an identity, as soon as I saw the Jam in their suits on the News of the World picture sleeve, then listened to the track, my life changed forever. Great track, thanks Bruce.
Never given the credit he deserves for the talent he has. Foxton is a genius. The Jam bass lines were amazing. His songs News of the World and Smithers-Jones were up there with the best ever Jam songs.
Great interview with Bruce. Brilliant. And yes.. 100% agree with Bruce regarding the possible meet up(and perfect oppirtunities) for Bruce, Paul and Rick to finally meet up. That's exactly what i had said to Rick a few years ago at a book launch of his here in Belfast. All true Jam fans would love that to finally happen...before it's too late Best band ever. Lucky to have seen them in April and December of '82. (check out JAM PACT BELFAST) PS- worth doing a podcast on tribute bands and musical influences due to The Jam?)
Wicked Pete Quaife like bass lines from Bruce & a Steve Marriott nod from Paul produced a handful of classic punkish style defo British songs. Bands influenced bands influenced bands. Great stuff! 🎶
Its a very good album. Their own sound and identity, not trying to sound like the jam. There will never be a band like the holy trinity. Late 70s early 80s best time of our life listening and worshiping the jam.
@@Granto-ni9qw He always seemed a bit stuck up compared to Paul and Rick.Think it was jealousy and he wanted to be Weller just like the rest of us did.
@@Mod-rw9cw don't no answer to that ,, but I wish I never got in to it all , now find Weller summit that I just don't get no more,, I'm 56 tired of it all they have all done ok out of it etc not working a night shift ,,
If only. If only brilliant musicians would realize that just because they can't relate to the music they wrote when they were 17 - 23, it doesn't mean that it wasn't relevant to the fans that made his career. If only certain blokes did two shows as a final farewell to that music 🎶 at RAH then be done with it. Oh but that person is probably to selfish. If only.....
They did a final farewell mate. It was 1982 in Brighton…. As for the whole “fans that made his career” - it’s kind of a two way street. Without the music - the hard graft and craft - you wouldn’t be a fan.

Nice one , thanks mate
Brilliant Dan. Am slowly making my way through all the podcasts. Really enjoyable and some great memories being shared.

What a great bloke - thoroughly decent too! Been a life-long fan. Paul, Bruce, Rick and of course John were just a match made in heaven.

Pity you ever got the chance to see them in 79/80 that’s when they were at their prime live.By82 Weller had lost interest.
Truly awesome !
Cheers pal

No matter how many times I hear the story it's always a great one, even more so from one of the horses mouths ;p cheers!
Just sourced the Butterfly Effect and looking forward to giving it a spin ...will report back ..:-)

Graham Coxon from Blur covered See-Saw in 2006
Check out Lisa Mychols 3 "Bruce Foxton" . This is a superb podcast btw , thank you again.
I will check it out. Thanks for listening mate.
The Jam gave See-saw to the Jolt, their Scottish label mates.
Ah yes - cheers mate
Bruce really needs to get over the split. Seems like he’s never moved on for forty years. Time to bury it and enjoy life.
Met him him a few years back ,he didn't have the time of day 4 me to be true ,,,
