Fabulous interview... but, bless her cotton socks, Tracie's memory gets a bit sketchy around the 50' mark, as she always seems to forget that from 1988-89 she was a member of 'The Way'.... I was 19 when she joined and, being a doey-eyed fan since 82 (thanks to 'Beat Surrender' on TOTPs, which I videoed and watched repeatedly till the tape wore out), I and the rest of the band were ecstatic when we met at Hard Rock Cafe in London for a meal, and she agreed to come up from Chelmsford to Mexborough every week to rehearse. We almost got signed to EMI/Go DIscs but it wasn't to be, and it all culminated with a performance on Yorkshire Television's 'Calendar' show (which I'm currently remastering and will stick on here once it's done). She actually got married whilst she was still in the band - I went to the reception with my gf - and it was very sudden, with the move to Solihull ending what was a great live band. Tracie and I still keep in touch, and I'll always remember those days. She inspired our trombonist (Andy Cato) and bassist (Jonathan White) to seek stardom and conjure up Groove Armada, and they've always asked how she is. Tracie's a woman made of steel, intelligence and wit. Though I haven't seen her in person for 32 years I love her very much. Hope I get the chance to catch her on stage singing again one day.

Talking about 70's music,i'm two years older than paul, when i was thirteen i was buying james brown,at that time he used to bring out a new single every week,i lived in chelsea until 2006,the only record shop that sold that stuff was in kings road,i loved staple singers, bobby byrd and i loved motown, still do,i remembered when they came over and toured, like about ten acts, they loved it here because they could stay in hotels with white people, and how the crowds were white and black all together, that would not happen inn america, that was very sad.crazy that was still going over there in the 70's.

@@PaulWellerFanPodcast I remember being in London shopping in virgin mega store on the day of the Brixton gig. A new small faces cd had been released called A's and B's. I was a big fan, I think there was one copy left my mate was so pissed off. Anyway we went to the gig. Paul played Tin Soldier and mentioned that Steve Marriott had died that day. We were devastated. Great gig. He played Bobby Hutcherson ummh. The next day it was in a lot of the papers about Steve Marriott.

Great interview @1:39:56 is part of what makes me a fan of his music. There are layers that you can listen to. Alot of artists don't put much thought into textures. Artists like Paul Weller always have great players who can add their own creativty to add a great bass hook or synth part that adds to the chords and melody of a great song. I put him right up there with other artists like Prince and Stevie Wonder for those reasons.
