ive recently developed a keloid on my earlobe near a piercing after about 3 years of having the piercing. would the silicone gel help? i appreciate the response and information
Hello Sion, silicone gel may help but it can be difficult to apply to the earlobe. You can get custom made pressure clips which can be useful on earlobe keloids and also steroid injection in to the keloid (this would be done by a doctor). Finally, for larger earlobe keloids, you could consider intralesional excision. JJ
That was brilliant. Thank you. Great to watch a UK-based video on the subject. Will check out your website.
Thank you! JJ
Appreciate the info. I think a lot of people confuse keloid with hypertrophic scars, still this information has been really helpful.
thank you.
Hello Goodmorning can i ask wat is the best to use for my keloids in ears that scar gel 15g or scar gel 6g?? please let me know ..
Hi James, if you are referring to the silicone gel on our website, then the 15g has a dual action and has ball bearings on the applicator which allows you to apply pressure, which is helpful for keloid scars.
If your scar is not in an area where you can easily apply pressure, then the 6g is just a tube with the gel and would be fine.
if treating acne scars with silicone gel, is it also ok to use microneedling? perhaps on a rotating schedule?
Hi there, I don’t do microneedling, so you would be best off asking someone who does. Sorry I can’t be of more help. JJ
I have a hypertrophic scars on my nose from acne. It's about a year is it possible to get rid? What should I use?
you can try massaging it and silicone gel to start with (you can buy the silicone gel from the chemist). JJ
Can pressure earrings be used with silicone tape?
No, you would use one or the other, I would not use them together. JJ
whats the name of the roller ball scar gel?
Nelchaelle Etienne hi, it is Silderm Dual Action Scar Gel www.staianoplasticsurgery.co.uk/scar-management-and-skin-care/
I have a horrible C-Section keloid scar. Roughly how long would it take for me to see results if I use the silicone gel?
Hi there, the silicone sheets might be more effective on a C-section scar. The response can be variable and I will take weeks and probably months for it to improve. JJ
I have a keloid on my face what could I use that’s ok for my face?
You could try silicone gel, that is available from chemists and can help with keloids on your face. JJ
Hello I don’t know if you will see this message but I have a question! I have a keloid about 1cm big, like a blueberry. If I use silicone gel , will I eventually see results of it getting smaller , or softening?
Hello Anisa, I have seen your message. Silicone gel is a good place to start but it can be difficult with big ones, so sometimes you have no choice but to consider excision. JJ
Will the gel work on tragus piercing if i have an keloid next to it
It would be worth a try.
I have a small keloid on my back side of ear by piercing.. I'm getting injection from since 1 year I'm tired 😩 of it ...what can i use to flatten it
you could try a pressure clip or possible silicone gel. JJ
Hi, In January I got my belly piercing keloid removed and I got bigger. Should I start using the gel. I tried using the Walgreens sheets but they really don’t say on and it’s starting to itch. What should I do ?
Hi there. The first thing is to try massage as this can help with lumpy scars. The next step would be to use silicone which comes as either gel or sheets so you could try this. The other option would be steroid injections but you would need to talk to your doctor about this. JJ
I had some tattoos removed and the scars are still red 6.5 months later...would love to share some pics with you and see what you think the scar might end up like.. thanks in advance..love your videos
Hi Brian, feel free to send us a photo here: wa.me/447794739606 It is usually a question of time and it can take 6,12 or even 18 months for the scars to fully fade.
Thanks for the support! JJ
Hi Doc, I have a question. If we take steriod injection for the keloid in ear lobe, will it cause weight gain. Please advise.
no, it will not have systemic effects. It is a very small quantity injected directly into the scar. JJ
@@TheStaianoClinic Thank you very much, Doc.
If a keloid is starting to form after a year can you use the silicone gel and massages to shrink it? Even if it’s about the size of a pea but not as big yet but close...
yes, you would be best off starting early with these treatments to try to avoid it progressing. Pressure and massage and silicone gel are probably the first things to start with. JJ Staiano
I have what i think hypertrophic scars on my arm. I really dont know how to just make them vanish and i do regret some decisions. Do you have a solution for this?
Yes, hypertrophic scars will often improve with time and moisturise and massage can also help. You can also look at silicone gel and sheets and possibly steroid injections (this would need to be given by a doctor). JJ
Hey Doc, there are so many different silicone gel (non-sheet) options available on the internet claiming to be medical grade. What would be your personal recommendation for a gel you see as most effective? Thanks again Doc!!
Also Doc, I’ve had my hypertrophic/keloid scar for about a year now, and most times it does settle to my skin color but it also does become red for example if I apply a thick moisturizer or just random times during the day it gets really red. Do you thing products targeting erythema/hyperpigmentation would help reduce this redness?
I’m not aware of any evidence to say one make is more effective than others, so I would advise you go with the cheapest one or the one that suits you best if you notice any difference between them. JJ
@@TheGoodOldNas steroid injections may help. JJ
@@TheStaianoClinic Doc is there a difference between a designated silicone scar gel like ScarAway and something like La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume which has Dimethicone listed as 1% active ingredient? Thank you again for your time in answering my questions doctor
@@TheGoodOldNas hi Nas, the evidence is not strong in this area and I make no recommendation for a particular make. We sell one at our clinic which has an applicator with ball bearings and has a dual action by giving pressure www.staianoplasticsurgery.co.uk/procedures/scar-management-skin-care/ but I think they gel itself will be similar in all of them. JJ
hiya, i have a a keloid the size of a 5p on my ear, i am waiting to be referred to a doctor to receive injections but in the meantime what could i use as the referral will probably take a while, will silicone gel help?
yes silicone gel can help as well as pressure clips, although when the keloid is big, then you may need surgery first to debulk it because these things are less effective on very big ones.
@@TheStaianoClinic could you point me in the direction of some good pressure clips as i can’t seem to find them anywhere ! thank you
@@megskathleen1803 hi megan, they usually need to be custom made using a mould of your ear. We use the maxillofacial laboratory of our local hospital to get them made. JJ
does it work on old ear keloids?
silicone gel may work for smaller ear keloids, but bigger ones often need excision. JJ
Hi my ear has grown an ear keloid will silicone work coz it started this year to grow
Hi there, yes you can try silicone in the first instance. Ear keloids can be difficult though and you may need to progress on to steroid injections and even intralesional excision. facebook.com/thestaianoclinic/photos/a.333828176637339/3291118880908239/?type=3
I have keloids on my pubic area and it's so disgraceful. What can I use to flatten it
You could try silicone which comes as sheets or gel and needs to be applied for 23 hours a day - you can buy this from a pharmacy. Failing this, you could try steroid injections, which would need to be administered by a doctor. JJ
I had a keliod in the same are got it removed,I'm on steroid injections
I have kielod how can l found silicon gel am in Malawi
I guess Amazon or search on the Internet for a supplier in your country.
Doctor i have keliod on my jow and its really big
there are treatments available, so you should see your doctor for help. JJ
Silicone tape is easy too.
Yes silicone sheets or gel can help. JJ
biggr keloid will goo frm this gel?
The gel is often one of the first lines of treatment, but bigger keloids may need more treatment like excision. JJ
Can silicone gel prevent keloid scarring?
Hi Emmanuel, it will not prevent keloid scarring but it can be used to treat keloid scarring once it occurs. JJ
@@TheStaianoClinic so if I use it on my piercing it won’t help prevent a keloid from forming ?
@@emmanuelokocha1320 no, there is nothing we can do to prevent a keloid from forming if it is going to happen, we can only treat them if and when they occur. JJ
For the silicone gel does it take a long time to show results?
Hi Jordan, it can take weeks to see results. It often helps with the itch and can help with the redness and the raised nature of the scar. The effects are variable and it works really well for some people and not at all for others. Good luck. JJS
@@TheStaianoClinic thank you I guess my real question is since it's on my earlobe and it's getting kind of big about four centimeters to be exact can silicone gel reduce the size if I use it everyday?
I don't have insurance to get it cut off or the post treatment and it's expensive to pay out of pocket so I'm looking for a cheaper alternatives. I ordered silicone gel roller and was hoping to get answers before I tried to use it if that would help make it at least a little smaller?
@@jordanevans3500 yes the gel roller can help to make it smaller, but remember, no one wants to pay for something if it isn’t going to work, so the cheaper option may be cheaper because it is less effective. JJ
@@jordanevans3500 hi Jordan, 4cm on your earlobe is pretty big and I am not sure how effective silicone will be for something this size. You can’t beat an in-person consultation with a plastic surgeon for an opinion and advice on the best treatment. JJ
