For the shining there’s movie people and then there’s book people, the two are doing a lot of different things. I do like both but for very different reasons
It's been a rough day so I needed this! So glad you enjoyed Jurassic Park. I was obsessed with it as a kid when the movie first came out and it's one of the few adaptations where I like both book and movie. It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure I liked Lost World (the book) a lot too, though not as much as the first. I think it went a lot more into Chaos Theory so some may not be into that. I couldn't stand the Lost World movie, but I had read the book first in that case.

I have that song stuck in my head at least once a week! I’ve seen it the musical on UA-cam many times, amazing you got to see it in person! 😊😊 I saw it in a weird way, I knew about the movie, but never watched it, but I came across a reality show that people had uploaded to UA-cam to be Elle, and I watched that, so I had to watch the musical. There’s so many scenes I love in the musical, I’d love to see it in person.

From what I understand, the Legally Blonde book and screenplay were developed sort of at the same time and both the book and movie were released in July 2001 (book first, then movie). It makes sense that the book would be so bad comparatively because it's not like it was a beloved book that later got adapted, it was written for both mediums and the movie was just better.

Gavin doesn’t make videos, they make documentaries for us to have with.
Just a few of my thoughts:
I read Jurassic Park when I was in high school, just before the movie came out (showing my age). I felt that the movie was a Disneyfied version of the book. Fun adventure, and the effects were amazing when it came out, but it didn’t have the guts of the book. Both great.
The Arthur Conan Doyle references in The Lost World (starting with the title) are great. Watch for those.
For the Shining, I love the book and the movie for different reasons. The most iconic scenes from the movie are not in the book, and they are cinema magic. I live in the Canadian Rockies, so loved the setting. Love the maze, like the representation of Wendy and Dick Hallorann better in the book. Also like the ending of the book better, which made me like the book for Doctor Sleep better than the movie (love you Ewan McGregor). Can definitely appreciate each on their own merits.

I saw Courtney in Six the musical last may, so glad you got to see legally blonde!! Open air theatre looked so good I never had an opportunity to experience that but will definitely keep an eye on it for the future.

Jurassic Park and Lost World are 2 of my absolute favorite books and I used to read them once a year. The 2nd book is fun ^_^ I just finished a re-read of Jurassic Park and when I was a kid I loved Muldoon and Malcom but this time around I really liked Grant even more then I did before (I think it's the dad vibes). I really need to re-watch all of the movies.... OMGosh your adorable kittens

I enjoyed The shining more, but I really like slow paced books, especially in horror. So, if you don't like that, I just wouldn't read SK anymore or only the short books tbh if I were you. That is his thing. He does go on and on, but I think it does add a lot to the characters.
I actually disliked the movie. I think there was too much changed and especially the ending was very bad. SK explains that really well.
Ahh I used to live right next to that cafe, it's so weird seeing 'real life' places online. Their bread loaves and cakes are fantastic ❤️ I spent so much money with that place just round the corner 😆

I read Jurassic Park for the first time last year - I'm not sure why it took me so long as I read several other books by Michael Crichton as a teenager! I really loved it.
There's a book called "the great Zoo of china" that is supposed to be Jurassic Park with Dragons. It might be something you would enjoy?!
I hope to read it next week on vacation, I'll let you know how I find it.

I love michael crichton. My favorite by him is Sphere. More horror and a little more technical and scifi than jurassic park but very chilling and good

The Shining is mesmerizing to me from start to finish, but I see why you didn't like it as much as I did, but atleast you did have some fun of it, Yeah, I think it has so many backstories and lots of talking, but the scary stuff in the middle and the whole action from the last half made it worth it

Legally Blonde was originally self published in 2001 and then republished in 2003, so that is probably when the changes were added

Legally Blonde is one of my favorite movies of all time. Saw it in theaters when it came out such good female rep at a time when that wasn't in too many movies. I read the book finally a few years ago and I didn't like it. Elle just didn't have her can do sprit like she did in the movie. And I still have yet to make it through The Shinning. I hope to try again next Winter.

I always use Legally Blonde as my argument against the common view that movie adaptations are never as good as the books they're based on. The LB book is okay but that's all it is. But without it we wouldn't have a great movie (or a stage show, which I haven't seen sadly).

Ah man I was really hoping for a book vs movie analysis on The Shining! The movie doesn't have the hedge animals and the ending is totally different... Kind himself HATED the movie adaptation so yours might be an unpopular opinion 😂

Stephen King is a phenomenal writer. His characterisations are brilliant.

Jurassic park is the best adaptation of Michael Crichton's books. Then comes The Andromeda Stain for me and Timeline is a guilty pleasure for me with Gerard Butler and Paul Walker. Unpopular opinion: I didn't like The shining movie, neither did the book, I haven't even finish it. The writing was too dry for me.
I love the Legally Blonde movie, but the book is a hard pass for me. I love Jurassic Park so much! I have yet to read the book though. It’s so exciting to see how much you loved it! I’ve been reading to read Crichton because he is so beloved. Okay, so hear me out, what I love so much about The Shining is that is a reflective work from King. He wrote it at a time when he was starting to grapple with alcoholism and see how it was effecting his children and wife. It scared him. King is no stranger to alcoholism and its effects on the psyche. The trapping of the solitary nature of the Overlook very much reflects his own struggle with alcoholism and while Jack was never a “good” guy we also never saw as someone not controlled by the bottle. So we don’t really know who or what kind of father he could’ve been without. I think this book was just one big reflective terrifying grapple with King’s own issues and fears of what he could do to his family if he kept choosing the bottle first. But, yea, super slow book, but I am so glad that Mike survives in the book and isn’t killed off like in the film bc his death was unnecessary and another racist moment of Kubrick’s killing the only person of color in the film off. King did right by keeping Mike alive and making him an important father figure for Danny when he was father never could be.
This Just makes me want to rewatch legally blonde 😂

I am a little late to this video but oh my gosh Jurrassic Park is one of my faves as well. I am not sure, if you have read the Lost World yet but in my opinion, the Lost World is better than Jurrasic Park. It's definitely better than the movie as well. I rated the first book (Jurrasic Park) 4 stars because I liked the movie more, but the Lost World was definitely a 5-star read.
