This was, in my humble opinion, Hal Smith's best comedic scene during the series. My favorite moment was when he pushed Barney's car off the road, screaming, "Outta the way!! Sunday driver!!" 🤣😂🤣
I asked my 4 year old grandson which episode of Andy Griffith did he like. He told me Mr. McBeeVee. My grown daughter owns the first 5 seasons, she watches them every single night. I only watch the first 5, do not like the colored ones without Barney.
@@susanspatz9501 hi Susan, how cool they have those seasons! Good wholesome entertainment. I also rather the b/w versions and Barney HAS to be in them. Take care!
The reason Mayberry was so peaceful and quiet was because almost no one was married. Andy, Aunt Bea, Barney, Floyd, Howard, Goober, Gomer, Sam, Earnest T. Bass, Helen, Thelma Lou, Clara and of course, Opie were all single. The only married person was Otis, and he stayed drunk.
The guy who played Otis was a very good actor because although he did not drink in real life, he sure seemed like one on this show. Otis finally sobered up years later.
Otis was played by Hal Smith, who for several years was the voice of a very different character, John Avery Whittaker, on the Focus on the Family radio show "Adventures in Odyssey."
My favorite scene is when Goober tells Lydia, That's the sofa I was telling you about. Andy glared at Goober, lol. That was the episode The Art of Love.
Gosh- I sounded like Barney on my first day as a teacher first getting up in front of the class and singing someone who was disrespectful lol. I’ve gotten a lot better
reward 4 chikani Hahahaha, Thats one of my favorite parts of TAGS. Andy couldn't keep a straight face during Dons acting... He was really having a Great time watching this and i can't blame him for laughing. Hahaha, These guys are legends, its sad they're gone :(
@@jonas2431 If you mean this episode, Andy and Barn go and observe a good time at a known friend of Otis's.. Otis emerges; drunk, and proceeds to lean against the car and mumbles something then falls out. Barn Raves saying that if he would have gotten in and drove the car that it would have been a danger to the people of Mayberry, among other things... Andy gets an idea from his words; they put Otis in a cell, throw water on him and sing a eulogy explaining how he ran off the road and drown... Otis thinks he is deceased and proceeds to lay on his cot, weeping. Andy and Barney rush in, "waking" him. Otis, relieved, responds that he had sold the car before he even left the party. Barney mad under the collar rolls his eyes and leaves to the thought and sight of Andy singing a song to help Otis sleep (forgot the song, though) The epilogue shows Barney and Andy cleaning around the courthouse, they venture onto the subject of Otis and the car, eventually Barn comes to the subject of; what if poor ol' Otis who never hurt anybody in his life and just drunk a little etc. would have went into the lake and drown... The thought saddens Barney who goes for a handkerchief while being comforted by Andy calling out "Barn" as they disappear off screen. Hoped this helped to get Bo and Luke off the hook Boss hahahaha!
@@jonas2431 IIRC Andy was originally supposed to be the comedian in the show, but after watching Don Knotts and other supporting players in action, he decided that the show would work better w/him as the straight man.
@@yooneeque1 a friend of mine once told that they originally wanted Don Knotts to be the Terminator, and that Arnold was the Reese character who had to save Sara Connor ,it makes sense a terminator is supposed to blend in,and nobody'll suspect Knotts to be an unstoppable android!!🔫🤖I can hear Don Knotts now saying --- I'll Be Back!!! 👍💪😎
In Barney's zeal to avert the potential domestic catastrophe of a town drunk operating a motor vehicle, he failed to anticipate the interjection of levity by his superior commanding officer, which may account for Mayberry's reputation for lawlessness 😒
Such a classic TV show... but not according to CBS Sunday Morning, which did a hatchet job on the show claiming it was racist because there weren't more blacks on the show or because blacks weren't allowed to sit at a lunch counter in Mt Airy, Griffith's home town.
If more driver's tests are according to the governance good for young people surely it would be a good idea to admiinister the same kind series of driver's tests to much older driver's too eh?

Do you mean Andy Griffith the actor/person? I think it's tough when you play an exceptionally "good" character, like Sheriff Andy Taylor, and people expect you to be just as wholesome IRL. People - with the possible exception of Mr. Rogers - just can't be expected to live up to a TV persona. We're all only human.
Barney and otis screaming at each other,is timeless classic historic comedy,at its best.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah!"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah!"
😂😂😂
You are so right! I love when they argue and fight!
They’re like two three year olds 😂
ENOUGH WITH THE ARGUMENT!
I love when Otis tells Barney, maybe later we can play with some trains😂😂😂😂
I believe Andy's laughter was real. He couldn't help but crack up at Barney and Otis's antics.
I agree. This was one of those scenes where he could laugh without breaking character, so he did!
He often said that he had the best acting job on the set. He could sit back and watch everyone else be funny
@@citizenken7069 I love it though when he is trying to keep a straight face either with Barney or floyd.

I love when Andy tells Barney he may fit into his little car, but Otis would never get into his. And then later Otis says the same thing.
Heck, they should have had Andy's kid come in afterwards to make it a running gag.
