On a Saturday night, the only two law enforcement officers in town are playing cards and the only lawbreaker lets himself into jail. Barney tells Otis his cell is ready. Wish I lived in that town.😂
I remember the episode when Otis dumped his moonshine in the water tank dispenser and Barney got drunk. There was never One Bad episode of The Andy Griffith Show.
I just about fell out of my chair when at the end Barney said "that's was my card!" Back in the day my late mother and sister would play rummy with my brother they would put him in the middle and cheat at the end of a game he would say that. Mom 2006, sister 2018 RIP. 2020.
@@dennisandry1632 -- When you saw Otis' wife, you could understand why he drank. (On the other hand, you could understand why his wife was such a shrew when you consider what she had to endure.)
Growing up with an alcoholic father and grandfather, I can assure you these depictions of drunks are far from accurate. There's nothing comical or humorous about alcohol or drugs.
He locks himself up on Saturday night and lets himself out Sunday morning. He says in one episode it's to get away from the wife, but Mayberry is a dry town and they arrest people for public intox.

Looks like Barney is also the dummy of Gin Rummy! No show took the simplest things and rendered them so hysterical. Don Knott's Barney is the every man for all time because he never wins. Fans of this show the world over adore him for it. By setting his own ego aside, Andy Griffith let the rest of this shows cast shine like the northern lights. The Andy Griffith show had the greatest cast of actors ever assembled. Shows of today are more tragedies than comedies. If television exists in the year 3000, this iconic show will still stand alone.
The reason Mayberry was so peaceful and quiet was because almost no one was married. Andy, Aunt Bea, Barney, Floyd, Howard, Goober, Gomer, Sam, Earnest T. Bass, Helen, Thelma Lou, Clara and of course, Opie were all single. The only married person was Otis, and he stayed drunk.
this scene is from "Hot Rod Otis" season 4 episode 19 .... the people who upload Andy Griffith scenes never tell which episode it is from..guess they don't think that some people might like to know
Because of their filming set-up, I always wondered how many times they had to film this scene, and those like it, in order to get all the cuts they needed.
Town drunk is such a harsh misnomer to hang on an unimitated, legendary spirit-soaker the caliber of Otis Campbell. This larger-than-life lush deserves an official title. Henceforth ye shall be addressed as Sir Otis Mayberry Municipal Moonshine Magistrate. His honor will now step...ere..crawl foreward and recieve thy promotion. "Dammit Otis wake up"!

Agreed, but it wasn't the town. It was the era and it's gone forever.
Yeah and the worst profanity was CREEPERS!😮🤓😎✌🏻
Nothing like that ever existed anywhere. Pure fantasy.

@@DJ-bj8ku yes, really.
Great comedy without bad language.
No matter how many times I have watched this show. I laugh every time
I remember the episode when Otis dumped his moonshine in the water tank dispenser and Barney got drunk. There was never One Bad episode of The Andy Griffith Show.
I wonder why Otis didn't just put the whole bottle in the water dispenser.
I know....it wouldn't be as funny!
Not while Barney was there. When Warren showed up, down it went.
I have SO many favorites but seeing Barney drunk is at the top of the list!! Good ol' Don Knotts.😍
Don knots acted drunk pretty good too.
The one where Barney finds the still in a barn and his drunkenness was all Andy needed to know of illegal activity
I love it when Otis is trying to teach barney how to play gin rummy cracks me up
I like how Otis came in drunk n teaching barney how to play cards those were funny
I just about fell out of my chair when at the end Barney said "that's was my card!"

Still watch this show.
hal smith what a hoot of a drunk he played even before foster brooks
I like Otis actually looks drunk. Lolol. Now that's acting😄😄👍👍!!
Always found it funny that, out of all the main characters on the show, the only one married was the town drunk.
During the 1960s and '70s, many TV shows featured leading characters who were single. That allowed many opportunities for romance in the plots.
I never thought of that. How progressive for the time.

What a classic show.
Best show ever made.
Fell in with some evil companions !! LMAO. The best drunk ever . I've seen real drunks that were not that convincing!
Love that!!
“fell in w/some evil companions”...awesome! I always enjoy when that happens.
Gin! thank you don't mind if I do,no one could imitate a drunk better than Hal Smith not even Foster Brookes.

Hal Smith was brilliant in that part. My favorite character. And the funny thing is he was a non drinker in real life.
Hal Smith than Foster Brooke
@@dwightstewart7181 agreed the real thing is far from this fantasy.
The funny thing about this is the actor actually never drank.
The guy who played Otis looks like he enjoyed the part.
Barney" What's the big idea taking all my cards" 😂
Don was just the best! This is, of course, one of my favorites!
😂😂 I love this show
Gotta love a town where the only action is Otis. I mean a sheriff and a deputy gotta have some time to play cards! lol
Otis used to be good at rummy , now he's very good at Rum!!!👍😎
Otis and Barney shouting matches. Always ends up with - "Pipe down Otis!!" "You gonna make me!!" "Yeah!" "Yeah?" "Yeah!" "Yeah?" "Yeah!".....
Barney. Best cop ever 💯!

I love Andy Griffin show, this episode was great..
Otis, not exactly a complex sort of man. Just lived his life in quest for the eternal buzz.
😃
Aren’t we all doing that, in varying degrees?

I could be wrong, but I thought Floyd was married in the first season, then a widower after that.
There were two other couples, the one where Andy and Barney helped deliver a baby and another where Andy acted as a marriage counselor
