Him saying "we got em now" was definitely Bardic Inspiration.
hahahhaa
I really like to think that if this was a table game, Rege-Jean Page's character would have been an npc that the party had to work with because of how stoic he is compared to the rest
The way you predicted the movie 😂😂
That dragon is believed to be Themberchaud, titled the Wyrmsmith of Gracklstugh. He is a red dragon that is so fat he can't fly, he appears in the Escape from the Abyss module.
"Honour among thieves = Medieval Firefly/Serenity."
- Thessaly Truesong, 7th level druid.
A fair bit of this was filmed near where I live and I have friends who were on the crew so I’m pretty much obliged to see it regardless of my opinion on Hasbro/WotC.
I wonder if the Feds could threaten Hasbro/WotC and make them sell, like they are doing with TikToc.
the bridge scene sold me on the concept of 'Failed roll' so well i might actually watch this in theatres, after the reviews come in.
I just saw the movie... And I'm glad to day... They didn't fuck it up. In fact, its really, really good and funny and doesn't take itself seriously like a typical dnd session. 😂
You actually want to watch the second D&D movie, "Wrath of the Dragon God," as it is MUCH better than the original offering.
Ooooo we will have to watch it!
Agreed.
Didn't even hear that that movie existed. Thanks!
Can confirm. The first one is B-movie schlock through and through. But the later ones have actually decent plot. For being also B-movie schlock....
Edit: and yet better than the first one.
The 3rd one the Book of Vile Darkness is so terrible though. Wrath of the Dragon God is good.
Looking at how many iconic D&D tropes they threw into that trailer, I am really worried that the movie will just be a tour de trope. The D&D brand has/had all the franchise potential of Marvel, DC, or LotR. They need to tell a good compelling story in a D&D fantasy world, not just simply rely on brand recognition/loyalty, as we can see how that is going for them. Not to come off as a fanboy, but look at the success of Legends of Vox Machina for example.
The ad was for the d&d movie - I didn't realize it was an ad until it ended and the show started.
This feels like an actual game of D&D. Gotta see this.
It sounds like your position vis-a-vis Hasbro is kind of where we were at the beginning of 2019 with regard to the pandemic.
Treantmonk put out some of the most rational takes on the OGL situation lately. Check it out.
We need at least one instance of the door being impossible to open
I went and saw that first D&D movie in a movie theater. Like, I was pretty sure it was gonna be bad, but... you never know, right?
If anything you can at least get a chubby bunny dragon funko 😋
another good example of TTRPGs on screen is The Gamers: Dorkness Rising. Definitely worth a watch for anyonein the hobby who hasn't seen it
Not holding out huge hope for the movie but will absolutely see it. I think they may have swung a little into sub par Guardians of the Galaxy clone in fantasy land, bit more fan service than I'd like to see. But it definitely has potential and there is talent in the cast. Just depends on the script and directing and whether the talent phones it in for a quick paycheck.
James Gunn played D&D, so it's more like GotG took from D&D first.
As im watching your reaction a ad pops up that is the trailer.....
Very fitting
So much fun. Love the tone
I don't play DnD but this movie looks cool.
As mad as I am at Hasbro/WOTC at the moment, I can't skip this movie. It looks too fun.
@@ShaolinShali I really don't see how this movie has anything to do with OGL or d20 TTRPG mechanics
@@ShaolinShali... here's your opportunity...
i wish someone could explain me in a couple sentences what the Hasbro hate is about, i have no idea, i tried to google it and i came across hate spanning two decades about widely different stuff :D i know it has something to do with DnD but thats about it
Much like with Bronies, Hasbro shafted the D&D audience by not only limiting Fan made content but straight up claiming they were going to steal it by annulling a previous agreement.
Clarus always makes a cute face after she introduces herself
Another one of those trailers where I feel like I've now seen the whole movie.
That used to be how trailers were made.
If I haven't seen and know nothing about the old DND movie, would anyone suggest I take the time to watch it?
If you’re talking about the one with Jeremy Irons, then I personally would recommend watching it once, if only for the laughs. You’re not missing out on anything, and it’s pretty bad. I think it’s bad in a funny, campy way. But if you’re not into movies that are so bad their badness gives them their own sort of charm I would pass on it.
It's not a great movie but it's worth it just to watch Jeremy Irons ham it up with abandon.
The TTrpg and dyd comunity are really angry at Wotc and Hasbro right now 😂.
But have you watched the best D&D movie? The Gamers: Dorkness Rising.
Yes! The orb!
Your Pokemon a very nice jiggly puff
nah...Hasbro and Wizards of the Co$t has me openly boycotting ANYTHING D&D related, that they can profit from.
It looks like tongue in cheek humour. Looks like a fun movie.
Is vox machina d&d based?
Yes/No. Critical Role ( Vox Machina) started out on pathfinder, but later switch to DnD. I am not sure if they did it during their Vox Machina run, but by their second season/campaign they where using DnD with DnD Beyond as their main Sponsor
CR was using Pathfinder in their home game. They switched to DnD when they started the initial stream on Geek and Sundry.
OMG Jeremy Irons... but seriously this trailer is like a touch of Harry Potter mixed with lord of the ring sprinkled with MCU humor... But you do feel some D&D stuff in there... Feel it's hugely cgi
Hmmm,, Nerdy's not round enough to play Jiggly-puff. So Wiggly-tuff it is.
Yep, I'm hopeful but terrified of a repeat of that old movie. (gulp)
There's actually 2 older D&D movies.
@@bz6046 More than that if you count the Dragonlance movies
@@bz6046 If you're going to "um, actually" me, at least get your facts straight. The 2000 film spawned 2 sequels not just the 1. And of course Dragonlance referenced below. I'm not counting the art of D&D movie from 2019. I'm talking about the major theatrical release.
Coming after a 50 year old DM about D&D movie history... I was simplifying for the masses. Next you'll say I don't know my Star Wars when I was there!! ;-)
Looks great! Important members of the creative team are regular D&D players so let's hope that the film reflects that. I haven't played D&D in decades so I have no stake in the current mess, but a very smart lawyer/UA-camr posted a video last week making a pretty strong case that the original OGL was never enforceable, so there's not really anything to be upset about with the potential changes. That's because the Supreme Ct established many, many years ago that you cannot copyright the rules of a game - here's the video starting at the point where he explains that, but the whole thing is worthwhile: ua-cam.com/video/iZQJQYqhAgY/v-deo.html
However there's a differentiation between "rules" and "expression". The rules can't be but the expression can. Check out Treantmonk's latest vid where he gets into all that.
@P Shali pointing out that there's more data that has not been looked at by most is not quite the same thing as boot licking. If you've already decided I'm a sycophant and couldn't possibly have any valuable input then that's your prerogative.
The Hasbro scandal(s) are more than a year old. They have been fucking up for a while.
It's obviously trying to be a live action vox machina. I expect this movie to be as good as the first one.
Getting a strong Willow "every scene has to be punctuated by a joke" feeling.
While I'm not a fan of the new Willow series, I am a fan of D&D sessions where puns are the highlight of most story beats. So I'm fine with that.
I hate what Hasbro and WotC are doing right now but I have to say this D&D movie looks really good. I may see it just to support the folks on the ground involved in making it.
The 2nd D&D movie is actually decent.
Whaaat!!!
Honestly, feels like an Avengers/Marvel movie with DnD thematic with all the kinda over the top comedy. Here I was hoping for a grim Forgotten Realms movie or something.
Comment for the algorithm, but not going to buy a ticket. Hasbro/WotC has already burned that bridge, and the only thing they care about is money, so I'm keeping mine. Shame, but there it is.
Not to say Hasbro is good, and definitely not in favor of how big of a mess they made recently, but do you know what percentage UA-cam takes when you sign a contract with them? The 25% Hasbro planned to take was actually a better deal than a lot of other contracts you'll see with mega-corporations. There's an argument to be made that when we're supporting Google and Microsoft and Facebook and so on and so forth (who all represent much greater evil and greed than Hasbro) maybe we should be just a little willing to at least come to the bargaining table and _try_ to make D&D work.
cgi looks great, humor looks great. I will see it but i will not see it opening night because hasbro is aweful. bottom line is hasbro is trying to deauthorize OGL1.0a, which will go to court. they wont back down on that it is key to them dominating the virtual market. at least thats what they think. they are operating under the impression all dnd will be digital, which just proves they still do not understand their customers after 20 years.
Funny how people are shitting on this movie now as opposed to when the first trailer came out, as if their issue didn't have anything to do with the movie itself
@P Shali
I'm aware. My issue is that people are letting their opinions over hasbro colour their opinion of a movie in production long before the ogl fiasco began. You're naive to think that boycotting a single movie will harm hasbro finances enough for them to start caring.
The movie's success should stand on it's quality alone, which while it has the potential to go either way, is unrelated to how much you hate the company that produced it.
I had pretty low expectations for this movie, which were then confirmed when I saw the first cast interview. Some two weeks or so after, Hasbro announced it was in the market to sell Entertainment One before the movie is released…. Well that does not bode well. Now with all that is going on with Hasbro / WotC lies over the OGL and their plans for the future of the D&D IP, I’m not seeing this movie until it is free for me to do so.
I’ll catch it on Netflix or Amazon Prime.
🤣
I'm looking forward to it. I just want a fun adventure with a fat dragon and has absolutely nothing to do with marvel.
no quarter, no surrender!
#DNDBegone
🖕 Hasbro
#BoycottHonorAmongThieves
I really don't like the quick quip, Marvel humour here.
I'm affraid this will be again only a flashy joke around have fun thing. Almost all recent adaptations are "Pirates of the Carabbians have action and fun". But this easily makes everything weightless.
What I never see is Game Of Throne level of story, characters, serious world.
But not judging yet, trailers can be misleading. We shall see.
They've already fucked it up, to be honest. It's looking to be a mediocre movie loosely based on D&D at best, betting on the ol' "Look at the shiny reference!" tactic, and with all of the issues surrounding Hasbro's demands for OGL 1.1 and 1.2, i for one have less and less reason to see this movie with each passing day
Sorry Nope still boycotting WOTC, as much as I wanted to see this I will not help ruin the D&D experience at home by giving them more money to shout we are doing everything great when it's not all great.
Ye still can watch it, ye know?
[raise the eyepatch]
*blink*
@@nothefabio I'm with you on that one
Please don't. Its WotC management not the workers.
D&D movie is gonna get Soloed.
@@StephMcAlea poor executive decisions also impact the workers. Life is unfair. In this instance what you suggest, for laudable a reason as it is, would reward the management, which we cannot have in my opinion
Wish I saw the same trailer you guys did, I could only see an underutilised cast awkwardly doing lukewarm comedy
