Unrelated but I've looked just about everywhere for this answer. What's the video file size difference between A7S3 and A7R4?? A lot of folks say prepare for the file size that comes with the A7R4 (which i have) but now seeing the new A7S3 out, ppl are saying video file are pretty big as well. If so, which camera takes more or less space when it comes to recording in RAW uncompressed? Please and thank you 🙏

love your comment!!!!! .... by the way in six months she will said that these same 2020 equipment sucks and you must buy the new 2021 model, new sony camera, new mic, new mixer, and new computer ....
QUESTIONS: 1. How much is the total cost for the set up? 2. Can you come up with the setup for people who don’t have $$$? 3. Can you be more relatable to normal people?
1) There's links for every gear in the description, but you are looking at roughly 12,5k usd. As said, totally overkill. 2) Even though there's a lot to save on that, one thing needs to be set: Which uses do you have for it? Livestreaming? Conference calls? UA-cam? I'm not gonna be in detail, but for livestreaming you can get away with more gaming centred peripherals, otherwise you might need to spend some extra for remaining discrete. You can get: Camera: Logitech Brio (lower end option, cost is 220) or a dedicated one like the RX100Va wih an Elgato Cam Link (or the Atomos Connect as a cheaper alternative to the Cam Link, cost is variable, over 1k tho) Microphone: Blue Yeti (quite the standard desk mic for livestreaming, cost around 130) or the Hyperx Quadcast if you are okay with more "gamery" looks, or - in my opinion the best option - the Rode NT-USB (cost around 170) Headphones (you gotta hear right?): ATH-M50x (quite another standard for music, not so much for games, cost 150), or the Sony MDR-1am2 (yes, expensive. yes you can often find them way cheaper refurbished. Great sound and very comfortable, also beautiful but discreet; cost 300 new,130-ish refurb), or a Logitech G935 (good headset, even more surprising for a wireless one, cost a hundred-ish? I don't even know how they go for usually). So on the lower end you can spend about about 500 and on the higher end it will be more like 2000 depending on how you spend it really... I can't answer number 3 lol
Oh I also forgot lighting, major importance for that (otherwise you could have Sara's fancy cam and would still look shitty), not much to look for, I like viltrox panels for being very high quality but also cheap. The VL-200t is quite thin and big enough to not have strong shadows if you place correctly. I didn't mention stands and other accessories as you can find so many similar ones at different pricepoints, it boils down to how sturdy you need them to be.
Good, I prefer it that way. It's the wrong position for a selfie camera anyways. Laptops is simply not used in a way that has a good Portrait View of your self, totaly wrong eyeline. Worse case scenario is Bottom of Screen WebCam looking up your nose. An affordable USB WebCam is just better.
There are so many videos on how to do this without taking up an entire room and use a few things you may have on hand already. But this is a great video showing how to setup a professional podcast.
When doing a video call, looking at a 7" monitor that's like 6 feet away isn't the best idea. You kinda want to be able to see the people you're looking at
This was great to see as I have a very similar setup -- I must be doing something right :) When Sara was on the Zoom meeting, her audio faded just a bit, pulsing on words. That's the Rodecaster noise gate and it needs a little tweaking to not do that. Also, if you have this setup, change the Zoom settings to use "original sound" to turn off the Zoom compression and noise gating. Thanks for all the videos Sara!
@@vervetech9395 You're right, I had no idea. Although looking into it a bit more, it's only a 2 axis stabilization that still needs software stabilization, so I'm not sure if that's comparable to a dedicated gimbal

@@saradietschy Too funny, I grew up in the city so know how some older building floors can be. I was second guessing myself on whether you had carpet before. :). Thanks for the vids :).
For those not looking to spend a fortune - main takeaway is if you have a dslr/mirrorless camera that has a clean HDMI out and want to use it for zoom/ms Teams: get an HDMI capture card (Elgato cam link is great but there are cheaper options, check reviews!) and a light (Godox sl60w or even an amaran Al-M9 or something similar, even just a normal lamp will help)... A good mic that has USB so you don't need a converter box is the Blue Yeti or Snowball mic - they just plug right into your computer. That will get you looking and sounding pretty good for less than $400 (assuming you have a camera) cheers For me, the video was great - I'm looking to move to that level (minus two rodecasters and bmcc lol)
for the eye line problem, I decided to get a super inexpensive teleprompter, I put a cheap monitor on it, mirrored the output so it shows up properly on the prompter and then I can literally look at the camera and see the audience. I use this for zoom calls CONSTANTLY (i'm an it consultant so i have lots of video meetings, but i also do live streaming on my own). I use a panasonic g7 (used ~$350) m43 4k camera with a camlink 4k, and for switching and mixing it looks like you're using a rodecaster pro which is a really nice visceral hands-on experience but it's like $600 (which is probably fantastic if your business relies on doing this stuff every day and you make money with it but I can't afford that), most streaming folks go with something like a goxlr and/or a streamdeck. Personally I use a zoom h4n pro (~200, usb powered can also be used portably with a usb battery or 4x aa batteries)) handy recorder as a 2-input xlr audio interface with a very inexpensive htdz ht-81 ($50) shotgun microphone (which is $50), plug my sony mdr-v6 studio monitor headphones (~$80) into the recorder so i can hear myself in real time AND it acts as an output for desktop audio so i can hear people in zoom/webex. - for switching, streaming, and recording I use OBS studio and administer it with touch portal ( www.touch-portal.com/ ) which basically does what the streamdeck does but it's only $13 perpetually and has a FANTASTIC dev community and supports doing keyboard macros, can be linked to autohotkey for amazing macro and scripting support, has direct obs support, has plugins for voicemeter (which is a great free software audio tool chain for more advanced audio routing and control), and can basically control all the things with a really nice visual scripting editor and it works on ios or android devices (I personally use my old nexus 10 tablet when i do streams) and you can make the layout whatever you want too from 4 giant buttons to 105 tiny buttons doing different things, supports pages like the streamdeck too, but i think it's an unlimited number of them and you can link from page to page from within pages to make life a bit simpler. it's fantastic software (particularly for $13 when I think the functionality is better than streamdeck and streamdeck is $100 for the smallest 3x2 setup, $160 for 3x5, or !!$250!! for the 4x8 model. no hate to streamdeck, it works great, but it's WICKED overpriced when you could pay way less to use the phone/tablet you have already. there IS a phone/tablet version of streamdeck too called streamdeck mobile, but they want to charge you $25/yr. not $25 as in almost double touch portal, but $25 A YEAR when touchportal is $13 once and i haven't found something that streamdeck can do that touchportal can't yet.) anyway, sorry about the streamdeck rant. the real magic of the show is OBS Studio. it's free, and it gives you pretty much everything you get in a tv broadcast van for hundreds of thousands of dollars in terms of video switching, audio switching, audio routing, plugins to do whatever you want with your video and audio including but not limited to chroma key, audio compression, full multiple input multiple output source layout control, works with pretty much any kind of input or video or browser source you can throw at it, it's incredibly well documented, and I've personally donated to the project and think it's really worthwhile if you use their stuff and want to throw them a few bills, I recommend it. it's fantastic and open source too, if you're a developer and you want to add new features, you totally can. it's great.
Sara, there is one draw back to the RODECaster Pro when you use the USB port for your PC....that is you cannot playback a video to the people in your Zoom call. There are a couple of options that are available cheaply. One is download VoiceMeeter Banana which has a learning curve. The option I use is a 3.5 mm to XLR connection to channel 4 on my RODECaster. I use a MPOW ground loop isolater to ensure no 60 hz hum in my audio. The reason I do this is because of the mix-minus on the USB port so the people I'm chatting with will not get an echo of their voices. You could also, depending on your computer's audio inputs and outputs use the TRRS connection with a dual TRS to TRRS connection as well with a couple of ground loop isolaters.
I currently have a Canon 80D and use the Canon utility to hook it up as my web cam. Then I use my Ride Video Mic Pro hooking it up to my laptop via the headphone/microphone jack. Then I have a couple of smaller Neewer Led lights set up (one on my desk as they have short stands and the other with a colored gel at the other side of the room behind me bouncing off the wall). This stepped up my game during Zoom calls not to mention all the comments I get. It also uses equipment I've used for my own UA-cam channel (other than I don't use my studio lights because those are way too big). Also I use my Gorilla Pod for my camera because it raises it right above my laptop monitor right where the Webcam would be. This gives me a two in one setup for both types of video media that I do (UA-cam and Zoom).
A really "Great" video Sara. Although I already knew most of what you were teaching, you have a knack for presenting it in both an informative and entertaining manner. Also, us New York content creators need to stick together (although starting out from Texas the way you have, I consider you 100% one of us now J/K :) ). Keep up the good work.
okay but woah your setup is the most next level thing I've ever seen. An actual work of ART to craft this all up! Thank you for sharing (even if I'll never be able to afford this hahaha it was super informative!)
It's kinda crazy, I love your channel and watch all your vids even tho I never really personally cared about most of the subjects (no offense). It's just so dope to listen to someone that's really knowledgeable just show tips and talk about stuff they're passionate about. It kinda reminds me of Adam Savage's channel, like I dont really care much about movie props and miniatures but I love watching his vids where he just talks and shows how to make stuff. This channel gives me the same vibe, and shit it's actually got me thinking multiple times about finally dabbling into legit photography, not just iphone pics. Keep killin it Peachy!

Sorry we haven't been able to visit you for the last few weeks we have been in Bulgaria filming and getting ready for Turkey next week. But always great to catch up with you. Stay safe and God bless you.
Sara, thank you for all the tips and products. I've been spending way too much time on Zoom and I wasn't sure where to begin fixing my setup. I already had a bunch of "Gear", so I didn't need to build a whole studio, but the Elgato Key Light is great. I probably should've gotten a pair of the Air lights instead of one 2800 lumen light, but it's a huge improvement and so flexible. For the camera, I kept digging for a less costly fix, and found Linus' recommendation for the DroidCam app! iPhone mounted on a cheap clamp scissor mount and everything is looking better. I may even try something to build up to full 3-point lighting. Thanks for the inspiration.
That Asus Duo ❤️❤️❤️ I may need to add that to my squad one day! I teach fitness virtually and have continued to up my game with each passing month. I have a webcam, Blue Yeti microphone, small ring light (upgrading soon) and have created a uniform backdrop as well. This video is so helpful!!
For people using Zoom there's a really easy upgrade from a webcam using any decent smartphone. You can use EpocCam, a free app with a paid upgrade option, and connect it to your streaming device as the default video camera. To monitor on a larger screen, if you have a tablet there's also EpocCam HD, which sends an image to another device via Bluetooth so you don't have to use your smartphone's selfie camera. Sure, it's not as great as a 'real camera,' but it's a massive upgrade over built-in webcams, and much more versatile. I'm not sponsored by EpocCam - just a reasonably happy user.
You can also use your smartphone’s (relatively much better cameras) as webcam alternatives via apps 👍🏻 they work great in a pinch and let you use your phone as a connected webcam on your computer.
Thanks for the tip with the clamp! Been using a ZV-01 as a webcam for ages (looks amazing, and get complimented frequently on the webcam lol) but just had it mounted under the monitor on a mini-tripod, and it always looks like you're not looking at people. I've also found it copes pretty well with lighting, just using a couple of computer monitors that are usually on anyway! I'm using a dirt cheap USB capture card off Ebay, but I think the ZV-01 (and I think the RX cams, but I'm not sure) is meant to be getting an app that will allow it to capture over USB.
One cool trick I've learned from Tyler Stalman is to use a teleprompter mirror and an iPad or a screen with the zoom call. That way you can actually look directly into the lens (as sometimes your camera is closer and looking at the monitor still can look weird)
Lol I just enter a zoom meeting with both my IPhone and my laptop. Phones rear camera is facing me (sometimes I do selfie if i need to control the meeting and such), and use the laptop for viewing the meeting and also managing other stuff that I need to on the computer. Make due with what you got. But if you can afford that super sweet setup, you’re zoom-mates will be impressed forsure
One free tip, open an empty tab in your browser tab to get a nice white light on your face. I keep my phone supported to the monitor to have a video call on the phone with a nice bright light from my monitor on my face.
Phone audio and video is much better than laptop audio and video in my opinion. I just join meetings from both laptop and phone at the same time. Audio+video enabled on phone while laptop is muted and used just as a monitor. All you need is a holder/mount for your phone positioned right above your laptop and you are good to go! I just use a pile of books to prop up my phone and keep my laptop right in front of it. On phone cameras, good lighting is important so I bounce the light of a table lamp off the wall opposite me to diffuse it. Most people don't want or need all that equipment for work meetings. There are simpler low budget solutions for us commoners.
Yes phone will probably always be better! I just used this as an excuse to show off my fancy setup so hopefully people can take pieces of it to inspire their own setups !
@@saradietschy Wow, I wasn't expecting a reply! I love your setup and some day I might think about getting a more permanent, less hacky setup. I have no thoughts on doing any of this. I have no idea what is going on here. But I do think you may be the best personality on UA-cam. And why in the hell you are not super famous I dont know! I think you are going to be soon
For those that don’t have a camera and need a webcam. I installed an an called EpocCam which let’s you use you iPhone as webcam. I’m sure there’s other app combos for pc/android. Instantly fantastic results compared to my MacBook Pro webcam. More dynamic range and better focal length.

- for switching, streaming, and recording I use OBS studio and administer it with touch portal ( www.touch-portal.com/ ) which basically does what the streamdeck does but it's only $13 perpetually and has a FANTASTIC dev community and supports doing keyboard macros, can be linked to autohotkey for amazing macro and scripting support, has direct obs support, has plugins for voicemeter (which is a great free software audio tool chain for more advanced audio routing and control), and can basically control all the things with a really nice visual scripting editor and it works on ios or android devices (I personally use my old nexus 10 tablet when i do streams) and you can make the layout whatever you want too from 4 giant buttons to 105 tiny buttons doing different things, supports pages like the streamdeck too, but i think it's an unlimited number of them and you can link from page to page from within pages to make life a bit simpler. it's fantastic software (particularly for $13 when I think the functionality is better than streamdeck and streamdeck is $100 for the smallest 3x2 setup, $160 for 3x5, or !!$250!! for the 4x8 model. no hate to streamdeck, it works great, but it's WICKED overpriced when you could pay way less to use the phone/tablet you have already. there IS a phone/tablet version of streamdeck too called streamdeck mobile, but they want to charge you $25/yr. not $25 as in almost double touch portal, but $25 A YEAR when touchportal is $13 once and i haven't found something that streamdeck can do that touchportal can't yet.) anyway, sorry about the streamdeck rant. the real magic of the show is OBS Studio. it's free, and it gives you pretty much everything you get in a tv broadcast van for hundreds of thousands of dollars in terms of video switching, audio switching, audio routing, plugins to do whatever you want with your video and audio including but not limited to chroma key, audio compression, full multiple input multiple output source layout control, works with pretty much any kind of input or video or browser source you can throw at it, it's incredibly well documented, and I've personally donated to the project and think it's really worthwhile if you use their stuff and want to throw them a few bills, I recommend it. it's fantastic and open source too, if you're a developer and you want to add new features, you totally can. it's great.
Wow. Very impressive setup. I would expect this level of quality for someone like yourself who is in the industry
Lots of cool solutions for a home set up. Thanks for sharing. Especially like the low profile boom arm and elgato key light ideas.
Hi Sara. Just letting you know that I'm setting up a studio and your video has really help me a lot. Thanks!
Thanks for doing this video. I just ordered an Atomos Ninja V for recording. You just showed how I can use it to look better in online meetings.
"Your laptop webcam sucks, spend 10,000 dollars on a TV studio instead"... seriously ? I'd *never* would have figured that out on my own...
Wow! I like that Peter McKinnon outro but in Sera fashion 😎✌️
I love this channel so much. The level of detail is amazing in every video. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the monitor placement tip. I have now used a Super Clamp a right angel extension and mounted it bellow my EOS R on my desk. Great Video!
Your enthusiasm is contagious, I love it 😄👌🏻
A really "Great" video Sara. Although I already knew most of what you were teaching, you have a knack for presenting it in both an informative and entertaining manner. Also, us New York content creators need to stick together (although starting out from Texas the way you have, I consider you 100% one of us now J/K :) ). Keep up the good work.
Awesome. Loving behind-the-scene videos. Great tips and advice and superbly presented. 👍
0:38 “I tricked you, I stayed in the same place.” 😂 I needed this in the morning! ☀️
Thanks for these tips. Good equipment is the key. You have to spend money. Thanks for not apologizing for the cost of good equipment
okay but woah your setup is the most next level thing I've ever seen. An actual work of ART to craft this all up! Thank you for sharing (even if I'll never be able to afford this hahaha it was super informative!)
Wow, gotta love a Techno-Nerd. Enjoyed the economy of editing. Great video. Gear is addictive.
Wow I’ve had my Pocket for a year now and I just found out about the app and autofocus...love the video thanks Sara
It's an impressive effort Sara just put it on this video! A role model creator!
Thanks, a great quick tutorial for us novice folks, and I really appreciated how you covered a lot of different price points!
a lot of stuff but i love how you made the quick version for work 😂❤️
It's kinda crazy, I love your channel and watch all your vids even tho I never really personally cared about most of the subjects (no offense).
Peachy: “I don’t even work on my thumbnails and titles anymore. I just upload.”
Also Peachy: * Big brain Zuck thumbnail * “
Nice jacket. 👍🏿
Wait did I say this somewhere? Cuz I’ve been STRESSING about titles and thumbnails recently 😤
Sara Dietschy yes, and your That Creative Life guest hounded you for it 😂. It’s probably just the upload vs recording date delay. Keep it up! 👍🏿
Ain't that the truth lol. You have such a cool set up love it. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, knowledge and expertise with us really appreciate it. Sorry we haven't been able to visit you for the last few weeks we have been in Bulgaria filming and getting ready for Turkey next week. But always great to catch up with you. Stay safe and God bless you.
No idea why i'm watching this when I can't even afford the $24 USB cam on amazon
Hopefully it was entertaining ? 🥴
@@saradietschy it is
you need to borrow some of her subs lol
can't afford it... yet :D - keep grinding
@@saradietschy Always :)
This walkthrough was excellent. Perfect in every way. Thanks Dietsch🤙🏽
Love these gear videos and even your other 20 min videos.
I fuck with you Sara. Your guy is a lucky man. You them vibes/energy that any smart guy would look for in a woman. You're madd genuine
Actual real world use case of a dual screen laptop, nice 👌
I found your channel recently and became a big fan
Amazing video. Sara is such a lovely and funny person. As well as giving so much useful information. Thank you!
Awesome lighting on podcast setup
Been waiting for this one for ages! Thanks Sara!
Love the video. Its an overkill for mortals using zoom.
I'm not sponsored by EpocCam - just a reasonably happy user.
brilliant video! loved the energy and delivery!
Hands down best guide out there! Thank you!
I leave this under every video I watched, it helps the algorithm.
I have a Logitech webcam from I think 2011?
It's 1080 and it still kicks ass. Been using it for years.
Sara showing up for work b roll was dope 🙌🏼
"I LOVE GEAR!" I loooove how much of a nerd you are! I LOVE NERDS! And gear. My purchase list is loooong now.
You can also use your smartphone’s (relatively much better cameras) as webcam alternatives via apps 👍🏻 they work great in a pinch and let you use your phone as a connected webcam on your computer.
i'm going to be the king of my google meet classes
Awesome setup ! Keep up with the crispy content.
A like just for that crispy zucc camera from the mkbhd interview reference
You have so many facts that my brain hurts. Amazing.
One camera will almost always be better than laptops!!
That podcast setup is killer! Great tip about putting the monitor right underneath the lens to fix eyeline. I'll have to try that.
I'm going to college again to get a master's degree and living life at bare minimum right now. Can you make a cool video about budget setups and what you would use if you were just starting out now? Say $50 to $200 budget?
I actually thought the advice would be related to us who do work from home setup and having to do video calls. But I guess the context is more on podcast setups and it be looking as professional looking as possible.
this video came in clutch honestly
Your jacket is really cool. Reminds me of the 1980s
Awesome video. I used to have a similar setup with a Sony A7III but the webcam in the new iMac is pretty good and I have found that it speeds up my workflow to record directly into my iMac
Thank you so much for the info! I will definitely use your tips! ... But those floors!!!
Nice Origin PC box behind the camera. Just got my Origin laptop a week ago
I have no thoughts on doing any of this. I have no idea what is going on here. But I do think you may be the best personality on UA-cam. And why in the hell you are not super famous I dont know! I think you are going to be soon
Natural hand movements!
For those that don’t have a camera and need a webcam. I installed an an called EpocCam which let’s you use you iPhone as webcam. I’m sure there’s other app combos for pc/android. Instantly fantastic results compared to my MacBook Pro webcam. More dynamic range and better focal length.
