We take a look at the weather settings in the MSFS, plus show you how to set up a flight, ideal for practicing landings or getting you in the air with little fuss. Weather in MSFS is massively configurable in terms of both visuals and a variety of different settings. Unfortunately multiple different weather areas remain a limitation of the sim at this time. Thanks for watching :)
As polished as ever Mark, great video. The weather is my favourite feature of this sim. Take care.
Just what I was looking for to set up crosswinds thank you!
Mark, your teaching is excellent! thanks!!!
Excellent explanation of the weather system Mark. Much appreciated
Hi Mark, thanks for a great year in simming, your wise counsel has helped a lot.
A most excellent video demonstration!! Thanks!
I purchased SoFly's Weather Preset Pro - 40 interesting presets and a recent update just added 10 more. Quite varied from clear and calm to quite challenging. 'Big and Bold' looks great crossing the plains . . . and there's even Hurricane Conditions, Sandstorm, and one that simulates smoke from fires.
Wonderfully well done video. Great explanations! Very helpful
I am also using the recently updated Sofly weather .. Very good.
Thanks for another great vid mark.
Others have commented on WPP and I have to say for $5 this has been a game changer for me. As most folks, I also love their Big and Bold preset. Now they even have added 10 UK focused presets to the base package, no extra cost.
Yes it is an amazingly useful add on! I just recently purchased it.
That helped me a lot! Thanks!!
Such a good tutorial, thanks.
oh finally found a good video on how to set the weather hopefully I can caluclate the winds aloft and find the best alt for wind speed direction and who knows what
Excellent guide. Was looking for something like this a few weeks ago. All the other "guides", "tutorials" etc., I found consisted of them just basically saying "hey did you guys know you can change the weather? Here's the preset drop down. Like and subscribe!".
Perhaps one fine day Microsoft will do us the courtesy of providing a comprehensive manual. As things stand,it's a case of poking it with a stick to see what happens......................
@@russellharris5072 True. Developers seemingly rely on google and wikis to "distribute" info on their products more and more every year.
@@hectiky I have the boxed version from Aerosoft, the manual from them is pathetic the quick keyboard shortcut guide is printed so small that even with prescription glasses a powerful magnifier is required to read it..........................
Thank you
I wish we could control wave height separate from wind settings... 😏 You basically need to set a 50 knot wind to get the same waves you would see in a 20 knot wind in real life.
Very good explanation; thumb up. I have a question about wind layers: at what altitudes do each wind layer starts and ends?
Hello, the wind layers and parameters are fully configurable by the user. Regards
Good video. Thx. But is there no way to to reduce actual visability. Id like to set up a clear sky in the early morning and have ground fog with 1/4 mile vis....OR set up a stratus layer with viability increasing above the layer... I can do this in FSX....Id hope there is a way to do it here. Thx
After a week long battle I managed to get the sim working again, but still have the lack of power caused by the last update and subsequent patch.Power still reads normally on instruments, but is lacking in flight. Both Cessnas are out of action but I can stagger along in the Beechcraft Bonanza.Hardly Ideal and Microsoft have been notified........................
Does anyone know what happen with Aerosol Density setting in weather settings? I use to had this but now it despaired.
Is there a direct way to control visibility? I don't see one. Although when I was playing around, it seems like you control airport visibility by just using a low cloud layer - but it takes some experimenting to get the results you want (if I am trying to set low vis for some approaches)
How your plane have an ice in the windshield ??
How can you set up visibility? I am trying to set up low cealings and 1/4 mile visibility and while I can bring down clouds to the ground the visibility is very high still on the ground. it kind of defeats the purpose.
any ideas?
Hi Ron, MSFS does have some limitations. What I do is to increase the Coverage setting up to 100 ( click on the cloud icon) this gives me visibility of around 1 mile, perhaps a little less.
May I add winds aloft 3 6 9 and what not ??
My Custom Weather settings slowly revert back to live weather for some reason. For example, if I set it to rain, the clouds slowly clear up and the rain diminishes down to nothing. I have live weather set to off, so I'm at a loss.
it remains strange that in a flight simulator when it rains and 5 degrees on the ground, the rain does not turn into snow at negative temperatures at altitude. even at 10000 feet at -8 degrees, rain still falls.
Hello, I don't have the sim, can you explain the difference between scatter and coverage because on demonstration I don't really understand
Hi Nell, in the sim coverage is the amount of cloud cover displayed and will be configurable from 0% through to 100% by the user. Scattered clouds is a preset you can have to provide partial coverage without setting up all your own parameters. Hope this is clear. Regards
@@SimHangerFS Hello, thanks, but if you look in the customisation, there are 2 sliders one is coverage and the other one is scatter
Can't we change the visibility?
Hi there - my FS2020 feels like there is always a degree of wind - making it very difficult to control any aircraft. Is there a way of turning wind off completely? (Unless of course the game is just buggy!)
0 knots is no wind. What I think your referring to is an aircrafts tendency to bank/turn on its own? This happens with real aircraft and is modelled in MSFS...it is caused by the torque of the propeller or a slight variance in thrust between engines in jets. This is where aileron and rudder trim is used to fly straight. Regards
@@SimHangerFS Great, many thanks. The previous Flight Sim didn't do this, so it feels like I'm having to learn to fly all over again! When you say "This is where aileron and rudder trim is used to fly straight" - I do centre these, but I'm constantly having to adjust - I can't just let go for a moment, also it is very difficult to make simple manouvres - it feels like a combination of over sensitive and unresponsive controls. Any ideas greatly welcomed
@@stephenhaynes149 , aircraft typically do bank left or right due to engine torque or variances in thrust from jet engines. I feel it is a bit too sensitive sometimes, but wind will also have an impact. The rudder and aileron trims allow for minor changes to be made . Regards
I couldn't understand the winds. There is no layers for wind like clouds. I couldn't find max and min altitude for wind adjustment.
Under the weather menu, click on the wind icon.
Thank's :) This is the sim I bought on first day, installed, flew a couple of times and never used again. Don't even know why I don't like it. Everything looks pretty nice but it's so boring.
Give it another go, it still has some way to go, but for VFR it is amazing. 😃
Amen to that, when mine broke for almost a week I seemed to be getting more enjoyment from FSX.At least with that you can play back the flight using flyby and watch the landing from the control tower.................................
or just click on live weather and fly just real life lol
Where’s the bloody visibility slide. Unbelievable.
Storm settings and bad visibility leads to abandoning Atheism!
😂🤣
