Russell - just wanted to say that i have viewed a number of your videos and 1. - you explain things very well, 2., you are a good public speaker, and 3., I appreciate how you point out the common mistakes people make and wrong movements to avoid as well as showing/explaining what to do for the correct movement.
Thank you for a new series of video of which duration is a half of the previous series. It means I can quickly understand important points in condensed manner and encourage me to review several times.
When I go to golf practices for my kids I am not sure many coaches are teaching kids these drills ... I am sure many are but I see many old drills be used
Love your videos and your drills !
Thank you !
Excellent Drills
In my opinion this is the best video you’ve ever produced. This is exactly what I have to work on and this video is so in depth and concise. Thanks Russell!
That’s a good drill Russell! Thanks…
Good teacher 👍🏼
Hi Russell. Thank you for your passion and generosity. Incidentally, how is that these golf downswing"hurdles" come natural for ALL Pros and low handicappers....
Good lesson, Thank-you
Watched this video avian a year later. My amazing mind completely forgot I had ever watched it a year ago. It is as if I had another new revelation of its contents all over again. Really says something about the human mind and my own in particular. It seems i need constant renewal. Great video then as now. Still is one of your best videos.
Thank you for your continued support
Thank you! Can’t wait to try this!!
great golf drill
Eureka! This was an aha moment for my swing progression! I could never figure out the cramped feeling I would get in my down swing. You clarified the reason and how to fix it. You're a
god send! Thank you!
Great drills! Thank you Russell
This is such a brilliant video - great drills and simple explanation - this is why I love your channel and content. That’s the next 2 weeks sorted 😀!
Good stuff Russell , I can watch your instructions over and over until I pick up 1move or instruction you give and you know I always do ty again for keeping my mind and body busy during these difficult times!!! Peace
Great drill thanks a ton
Another Great explanation! I’ve just been doing drills, drills, drills, and more drills.. this is part of my game I struggle with having a short backswing.. “timing”
Excellent tips Russell, thanks.
These are great. Thanks.
More excellent content on the nuances of hip / pelvis rotation. Great explanation and differentiation between retaining ‘hip depth’ and that of spinning out or turning the pelvis forward into the space for the arms. This is really helpful stuff Russ. Looking forward to getting started with forging some new ‘golf adaptive’ neural pathways with those drills.
This is the best explanation I've seen yet and these drills should help improve this key but counterintuitive part of the downswing. It's hard to quiet that trail leg but everything comes together, if it can be taught to wait at the start of the downswing. I can imagine a spot on the front middle of my right thigh, pointing to the right, like a flashlight, at the top of the backswing. If I resist moving it by thinking WAIT, it serves as a good trigger for the rest of the downswing and nails the squat.
After hitting foam balls with the previous thought I came up with something much better and easier to time. It was better to feel the build up of tension in the inside of the trail thigh and try to keep it momentarily while waiting for the turning of the lead thigh to finish the downswing. Thinking WAIT FOR gave me time to resist movement with the trail thigh and activate the turning of the lead thigh and glute back by turning the outside pants seam.
This was the missing link for me! Great video Russ. I was spinning out most of the time and flipping the rest of the time. Can’t wait to ingrain this new feeling into my rapidly evolving swing. You’re videos are the only ones that matter to me now
Great video, really well explained. I get stuck on the way down. I will try these drills. Thanks
Superb explanation. Thanks sir
Super video, believe will help me lots thanks so much
Fantastic drills and advice, been following you for the last 9 months and keeping away from other training videos in order to focus on things that in my opinion definitely work and don’t confuse my mind on other concepts, thanks so much Russell, I look forward to more advice👍👍👍
I just love this video
Hey Russel, Love your videos, Thanks. Noticed nice hitting net, is it available online?
as always, what a great explanation.
been following this channel for some time now. How on earth can Russell know and teach so much useful content where SO many instructors at the local courses don't have a clue. mind boggling. love this channel and all the frequent content posted. Great work.
I agree with this comment 100%!
Ditto
He is indeed excellent 👏🏽
These are great exercises and ones I will practice. They are also possibly easier than thinking/practicing my trail arm in the other training videos. I my club shaft steepens on the downswing and out to in. Thank you.
Wonderful video , the first time I understood how to open the left leg. The stick position gave me a perfect feeling for a correct movement! Compliments frome Italy Russel!
I’ve been working with my pro on this exact problem. Very timely and brilliant drill!
Superb simple explanation for a missing movement in my swing for 30+ years, you have given us a means to add that missing 10-15% swing speed. 30days I will add 5% speed and get back with the confirmation
What a fantastic swing.. 👍
Another great use of the alignment rod in drill 1.
Very well explained.
Great stuff Russel.
The more I listen to this video (one of the best in my opinion) I see a common thread that invokes all three drills-the cane drill, the hands on the thigh and shoulder drill and the step in drill, and that thread or theme of starting the downswing by keeping the rear leg thigh back as much as possible while the lead leg thigh rotates as much as possible-sort of the same thing you say for hips in relation to separation.. Different rates of rotation with lower body lead as you will.
Excellent
I watch your videos more then anyone else. Your tips have shaved so many strokes off my game.
Thanks Richard
I believe these drills apply bigtime with what we are working on now.
Pretty much my entire winter has been spent on the squat move in the transition....along with shallowing the club...what a new feeling. Had a few winter rounds to test it and proved this is a huge difference maker...had to really condition myself to separate the control of my upper and lower body
Joe Norwood, wrote the book, Golf O Metrics. Back in the day Joe created a Cross Lateral Sitz move. This is the essences of what Russell is demonstrating here. Happy Easter. Nice job Russ.
very good
Russell's timing is perfect great video.
Keeping the right hip back on start of downswing or as long as i can feels good in the backyard hitting rubber balls. Can't wait to try it on the golf course. Thanks
A great swing thought for me seems the magic move is get the belt buckle away from the ball in the backswing and downswing as far as comfortable . Feels great in the backyard so far.
Golden!
Great stuff.
Even if you change nothing else in your swing, better lower body action will great add to you power and ball-striking. Did for me.
I like how the title says easy and then the last few minutes Russell describes how difficult they are.
Another great feeling is to keep the belt buckle away from the ball in the backswing and downswing as far as possible... Works great for me. Thanks.
This was great and also surprsing. Not often talked about and certainly not in this detail. I can see where I have consistently made the wrong move in the past.
I am sayingthe same thing to myself a year later 2024- excellent video maybe the best on this criucial area
Thank you
Gold nugget video alert ~ great stuff Russel ~ been following pre 10k followers 100k next ,great indoor/back garden stuff👍👍
Cheers Ben
Hi,I work with Russell he’s a great teacher my understanding of pelvic area is a game changer, if ur brain no’s the task u can then start to learn the sequence, the swing is pointless without this movement.
Thanks Paul
Great video. The closing comments on us amateurs not respecting the drills is particularly true. Russell, isnt the downswing initiated before the back swing is gully complete? If so the left hip would be pulled towards neutral and then the squatting move and completion of downswing, ? ,t downswing is a squatting of my right knee after my lead hip is pulled back....and then I fire through.
Will discuss the hip rotation in full next week
@@russellheritagegolf much appreciated. Safety and health to you and your family.
Stepping in drill @4:40 👍
It appears on the video that as you start to rotate you are pushing your left glute back. This brings it back almost even with the right in that sitting down posture as you would be at address. Wrong impression or reasonable assessment? Thanks for the videos. Only way to keep sane during these tough times. Stay safe.
Hi Russell great content as always and I agree with many of the comments your breakdowns and drills are the best on youtube in my opinion. This one is a bit tricky though, especially the second drill as the trail leg moves and I'm not too sure how you know if your doing ti correctly, you didn't mention how you know if the correct feel is gained? Could you break it down further.
Interestingly, as you do the step drill your right hip/knee/leg is still going back while left leg is stepping forwards. Hence a perfect illustration of the concept.
Good drill (stick between legs) to make sure one rotates the hip without changing ones spine angle. This drill also minimize early extension.
Russell's trimming is perfect too. That's a well-cut lawn in early spring !!!
They latest video I saw says keep your back to the for as long as you can.
Great video! Can you tell me the name of your orange hitting mat? Thanks
The Orange Peel
Great lessons thanks. On this one am I alone in not finding this easy?
No you won’t be which is why I try to help with drills etc for all golfers to try and get good feedback
George Knutson is quoted as saying: "I can hardly wait to get on my (left) big toe on the downswing". I think he was talking about the transition. In the step in drill you do just that. Is that feeling of moving to the lead great toe something you feel?
What brand and can you provide a link for the orange practice golf balls, please? Ty.
www.greenkiwi.co.uk/products/masters-lite-flite-foam-ball-pack-of-6?variant=30735701475351¤cy=GBP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx4T4s8Lx6AIVU-3tCh09_wMJEAQYAiABEgLgYPD_BwE I didn’t buy from here though
I can do the step drill all day long and lace the ball. Have the hardest time starting from my normal stance and getting into my right side(left handed golfer) like the drill.
Try to progress it back to normal slowly so narrow stance back to normal etc
Hi Russell, You have mentioned that the weight shift into the trail leg should go mainly towards the heel and not just to the outside of the foot. With the weight into the heel, would that delay early extension by slowing weight shift/push off into hip extension?
I would say weight would be on outside of foot to the heel and yeah this will help a ton
Any rotation causes over the top
When I squat I lose all foot pressure from back to forth and left with using mostly my arms.
Way of topic but it that real or fake turf? Great drill by the way.
Fake
At the age of 75 am I to long in the tooth to try these drills or to improve. I play twice week with friends of my own age and its very competitive.
jimmy coundon you are never to old to improve. You can still stay competitive with your mates, but you may start winning more often.
Rinse & repeat
Yeah sure, squat this.
This video may be removed from youTube it's content is so rarely shared. For way too long my rear leg tended to "shoot" forward and inward the moment my downswing started. It was probably what started my downswing. When that happens.... FAT!
Russell, I love a lot of some of your extrapolating philosophy, it gives some great nuggets because you love the detail of the game. However, I do think you've got to get to the point more often. Some of your tangents don't deliver like your good ones. Saying this as a fan. 15% less rambling would keep viewers engaged for the extra gems.
So I'm new back to golf after 10 years various operations Blah blah blah, this is very intuitive but lots of head movements both laterally and vertically where we were told about keeping the head still, is this just exaggerated for illustration?
It’s up to you, your head can and will move. If you prefer to stay still then of course you can too. It’s more about finding what works best for you
Am not sure if your tips is useful or not but one thing for sure, regret to say your tips is too complicated to digest.
Then golf is not for you.
@@SBillings01 u replying to a single handicapper. 😂
Hi Russell. Thank you for your passion and generosity. Incidentally, how is that these golf downswing"hurdles" come natural for ALL Pros and low handicappers....
Yep, I’ve recently been doing this with online students so rather than working on swing positions we focus on: strike, start direction, curvature. You’ll find doing it this way will equally lead to good swing positions
