    What a GREAT DRILL! It accomplishes so many things. It enables me to VISUALIZE what swinging ON PLANE through the ball really means as well as squaring my cluface, rotating my left arm, releasing the club AND taking a divot. SUPERB DRILL RUSS. Where have you been hiding it! Better pass this on to the wife in her lessons. She looks like she can use it and probably will. She learns fast!

    5:15 - Really important to notice he is bowing the lead wrist while rotating the lead forearm at the same time. He is not rotating the upper arm in this drill. Also notice the trail wrist supports this action by progressively cupping (bending back on itself) at the same time. So both wrists worked together while the lead forearm rotates. Very powerful move that produces a penetrating, crisp ball flight! Lastly, absolutely love that trail elbow position in this drill, out in front of the torso. This re-enforces keeping the hands ahead of the ball at impact and encourages trail side lateral bend.

    I finally built a grip with two lasers from one of your previous videos. When I combined that with this drill I learned a lot about extra movement in my swing. That being said it didn’t take long to correct. I will practice it 5 minutes 2 or 3 times a day for a couple of weeks and see how ingrained I can get this.

    When I bumped into your site, I was thinking, "Ho Hum". But as you proceeded, I thought, Ämazing!" How come I didn't think of that?" Mike Malaska was a baseball player as a kid; he uses a similar approach-arms parallel with the earth- but you hit it out of the park-supination and all! I once searched about a zillion photos of Hogan, looking for the bow in the left wrist. I found it in only one. Now you present it as a logical and necessary way to demonstrate impact. Kudos to you! I'll look out for more of your stuff. Thanks.

    Russel, it is interesting how this drill also changes your grip. With the club moving like this horizontally it forces your left hand to grip the club in the last three fingers and pad to support the club. Well done!

  • @mjb8274

    Looks like a good drill. At 4:00 the clubhead simulates impact across from the left shoulder, but your hands are well in front (forward shaft lean). I think if somebody does this wrong they'll try and get arms, hands and clubhead all pointing at the shoulder line, which when applied to actual impact could be a little flippy.

    Russell this is a great video. Quick question for you. I've tried this drill, along with your knuckles down video, and it seems to be working in getting my hands lower at impact. I've always been an early release caster of the club who has struggled with getting too close to the hosel. :-). Could this be changing the path enough to resolve this issue or is that wishful thinking. Thanks again for all your content.

    So Russell if I’am understanding this correctly the backswing is radial deviation with forearm rotation and the downswing is ulnar deviation with flexion of the lead wrist to square the face?

  • @zero2herogolf
    @zero2herogolf 3 роки тому

    Wanted to mention some additional progress today. Keeping trail side lateral bend, and especially the trail side of the chest (torso) over the ball through impact, decreased early pelvis (hip) extension. The reason; If the trail side of the torso is over the ball, and early hip extension toward the ball were to occur at the same time through the impact zone, loss of balance would occur. This practically forces me to keep my butt back, otherwise I would fall forward over the ball across the target line. Video camera footage a must to identify this!

  • @OnTheSnap1
    @OnTheSnap1 3 роки тому +1

    This is a nice drill. But isn’t it better to set the wrist flex in the backswing vs setting it near impact making it timing sensitive? How about adjusting the drill to preset the wrist bow

  • @travertraver1

    Where are your shoulders facing at the beginning of the drill ? Does it matter how far you turn back to start the drill ? It is a surprisingly strenuous drill, isn't it !! Many thanks for all the lessons. They've made a world of difference to my enjoyment of the game and I lost 4 shots off my handicap in one game. Still at 14 though but that's all down to very poor putting.

    Nice drill Russell. This looks like a it would fit someone with a more active, rotational type release, rather than someone with more of a throw release. Any preference on one over the other for you?

    • @russellheritagegolf
      @russellheritagegolf  3 роки тому

    • @MrLuigiFercotti
      @MrLuigiFercotti 3 роки тому +1

      You sure about that?
      The palmer flexion (bowing) of the left wrist reduces that amount left wrist supination (CCW rotation) required to square the clubface. This is not an active rotational release, it's what is called the stable release.

    This has kinda worked for me. Kinda. See, I'm NOT very strong. And I'm old (think aged Ectomorph).
    After a while, when doing this, I start to use the arms too much - arm dominated 'throw' or 'steer'/shove accompanied by a slide. Gets ugly. Seems I have to have a slightly stronger grip and flatten the wrists with, I guess, the body. Rotation. Slow-mo (HUDL app also [1]) video shows the wrist nice and flat and it seems to be a result of better rotation and keeping the spine angle.
    [1] HUDL is a PITA to use but, it's the only free one out there. All the bugs keep me from actually buying the paid version. Wish there was something else.
