She is really bold and humble to have her beginning documented. Golf can make you feel foolish. Kudos to her for letting us all come along for the ride!
These instructional videos with your lovely partner are excellent. Seeing a complete novice being coached rather than watching you tweak the swing of somebody who is already reasonably able, is of great benefit to a complete beginner like myself. 👍
Thanks, great visual demonstration of how hips move. My missing jigsaw piece amongst many. Small sample size, I tried it out on practice range, and instant results, stops me getting trapped in downswing, I get a full follow through now, and noticed my ball impact on club face is in sweet spot more rather than toe areas. Thanks. This instruction had instant positive improvements. I've seen an article that Ben Hogan use belts above knees and elbows, to gain muscle memory, do you think that type of drill helps? Thanks again, Gus.
Just catching up back catalogue ~ Russell hit the nail on the head that if you miss fundamentals during the early stages of learning /changing golf swings you automatically limit your ultimate potential.Really good video for all the flippers out there ~ having been one for 20 years....changed it with Russell’s help.
I managed to teach myself so many bad habits in my golf swing it makes things quite difficult to change but with your videos I still have hope that I can change those bad habits into good ones. Thanks for the great videos.
As a completely frustrated early 'everything' lack of power and accuracy golfer of 20 yrs on and off. These videos give me hope that I too can evolve my 'arms dominated' hit into a relaxed semi athletic swing. My left glute and both sides of my sacroiliac joint are certainly aching as a result . Great to be able to see a beginner example. Stay safe and thanks.
@Russell Heritage... I know you don't like doing beginner type lessons you say. But, even as an experienced golfer that plays a lot, these are really good to watch. Thinking about things like posture, and correct body movements. I think we get so technical sometimes as we progress that we forget these important parts of the game, and some issues we are having could be as simple as setup. Love the videos, and will actually be working these two drills on the off season. Would love to see more simple basic (beginner) drills.
I agree, I’m looking for different golfers at this time ⛳️
Your wife is a great student. Very understanding and willing to learn.
I don’t know how many people realize just how fundamental this is to a correct golf swing. It is the basis for good footwork and swinging in the proper sequence to a balanced to finish. This is the foundation of a good golf swing.
Great teacher great lessons... Need some time to understand your methods.. But once I understand your way of teaching.. It's an aha moments in every details...
This is one of the best truthful simple golf video I have seen for an average golfer to improve or change their swing....
Thanks
Excellent teaching for me to follow. Very clear and to the point. Kudos to your wife. She is a very good listener and very serious student.
very nice video to show some of my newbie golfing friends to understand whats the rotation move :) ty alot keep safe
Nice work RH AND Anna. Really great tips,...lower body and sequencing. Hands on the belly. Turn into right thigh....down into left thigh. Lower body moves first in the down sequence.
Found your channel and absolutely love your videos. You are a masterful teacher of the golf swing and have given me hope that someday I will be able to strike the ball correctly. Keep up the great work.
Wow, this is awesome, what a light bulb moment.
I stumbled across your Channel by accident and so glad I did. One simple drill has taught me how to side bend/left side tilt. Lots of videos to explain, but nothing this simple. A Big Thank You 👍
I'm that impressed I've subscribed to your Channel 🏌🏌
Strong feeling that my swing is improving in this lockdown, hats off to your wife, she is open to learning which is not common 👍
This is great. Nice to see Anna enjoying the process and the movements, not so much worrying about swinging the golf club and hitting the ball. Fun to watch!
Cheers mate hope your well
Cheers to the two of you for working together, exposing the truth of the work required and the difficulties involved
The coaching is the real deal...lots of coaches teach you this move the last and focuses on hand, arms, head, neck, shoulders and trophy finishes. I believe all newbies should master this hip movement first before all the rest. Well done
Great. Really like working with you wife, someone who is just starting, and how you explain the movements and how she responds. Very insightful. Keep her in your instruction.
Absolutely brilliant, really good seeing Anna getting involved. Have followed your online lessons for a while now. Fantastic 👍
Eureka, I now know why my swing changes are not working. I am not working on these fundamentals.
Again fantastic Russell,a golf nuts perfect neighbour.
Fantastic Video Russell, some of the best golf instructional videos I've seen on youtube
Really great to see Anna’s progression whilst enjoying herself. Keen to see how far she goes!🙂
Great to see that what you are trying to teach and explain --- you are doing with an absolute beginner. It makes it simpler to understand and comprehend. Will probably refer back to this often. Hopefully Anna gets chance to play a few rounds with you this Summer
This is awesome. Thanks Russ and Anna.
you work so well together. you are obviously a very patient fellow and do not overload her. no wonder that you are such a wonderful instructor. well done.
Thanks
Russell, your explanations are really 'on point'. I'm a starting golfer, but I've learned already so much during the past days by just watching and following your drills. Thank you so much !!
This is so good Russell, a real insight. Love Anna’s enthusiasm too.
Love the positivity Anna - keep working hard!
Prolly the most informative video yet. Less talk, more practice.
Loving this series Russ , some real gems here. Perfect combination between a patient instructor and an enthusiastic pupil. Anna will do well. More please.
Great job Anna!! Thanks for being such a trooper!! You guys make a great team and are truly having a positive impact on us all!! Best Wishes!!!!
Fantastic, i have just subscribed. Its the first time somebody has propley explained how to swing back down for contact with the ball. Great. Sorry for my english, from Madrid.
Really liked this video you’ve got a new subscriber , simple and accurate information to follow. I’ve been playing for a few years and still find that transition move hard to nail every time .
Great drills.
Really enjoyed the lesson Russell and I'm not a beginner.
Sequencing issues are always creeping into my game.
Brilliant
Really enjoying this
OUTSTANDING IDEA. This puts some perspective on the swing for me and I have been playing for 50 years.
You have made an old man very happy Russell .Your drills are similar to Big John"s training belt . however you add the key which is LHD .Using the belt and your instruction .I wind the hip down with back of the right knee tendon .Then the left knee tendon pulls the left hip down for the downswing ,results fabulous .I also had got lazy not keeping that good posture . The belt is now not needed and the follow thru is automatic .
Nice one 👍🏻
It's a good drill to cure early extension. Your lesson so much interesting n clearer with Anna asking n demostrating what pitfalls students should not do.
Well done Anna... Be assured u do contribute a lot to the show!!!
Great instruction sure it will be helpful for all handicaps , very helpful 🏌🏻♂️🏌️♀️
No doubt the drills work, thank you Russell for all the videos with these drills!
This was so insightful
Really really good instruction Russel! The move you’re teaching is extremely difficult for a beginner like Anna. She is doing a fantastic job! Can’t wait to see her progress. 👏👏👍👍
Lots of good stuff in this video!! And honest words on what it takes to improve. Anna has talent for sure!! :-D Always nice to see!!
I'm looking forward to seeing Anna's progress. There were subtle things that she did wrong in the "basic" drills that I didn't notice until you pointed them out. This is just what I need. Thanks.
Fun to watch!
Once again great information. I've been looking for a way to simplify my swing and your demonstration of the downwards facing pelvis drill, gave me an idea that does the trick. All I have to do is visualize a table at about mid thigh height and think about keeping the pelvis pointed down at it, throughout the swing. This does a good job of helping me keep the pelvis (zipper bottom) pointed down through impact ( I'd been having trouble with this ). I use the right back pocket back thought, as a swing starter and turning the left outside pants seam to the left as a downswing trigger. POCKET TABLE...SEAM TABLE works well with my lower body driven swing.
This is so cool, love it.
Absolutely spot on Russell, you have to be willing to try to make changes and expect that you don’t get it straight away, changes take time and sometimes don’t translate to results straight away!! Couple of good drills to try, I’m not flexible at all, find it hard to turn off the ball and then get armsy at the ball! I’ll try these though!! 👍
Great having your wife’s perspective here. I’m a new golfer and I feel the same way. I wish I could get my wife to play.
Great video Russell and Anna. Associate with this entirely as until recently after a TPI Assessment (failed miserably!) I realised just what the pelvis is meant to be doing! (Had not a clue about its role etc before that !)
It is undoubtedly complicated but most things which are, normally are worth the effort to try and master!
Great lesson Russell
Here's a tip: Really think you should pretty up that boring fence. Dig up a 1 foot strip of the astroturf and plant some climbers. Autumn is a good time for planting.
I’m on it 👍
I play off 8 and it is the first time (thanks Anna) i get the movement going in the correct sequence!!
Really enjoyed the video, can relate to getting to a point where I can hit the ball cleanly BUT know my swing is flawed and need to go back and look at fundamentals if I want to continue getting better. Think a lot of video blogs would benefit with working with beginners and taking them through the journey. Keep up the good work and stay safe.... Regards David
Amazing how much golfers of different levels can learn from basic levels 👍
This a great set of drills for developing an understanding of “using the ground”. I’ve been playing for 50+ years and this is the best but if instruction in the
... best bit of instruction on starting the downswing Thank you
Enjoying this because my wife and I argue when I “coach her”. Excellent interaction
Great video mate , you guys will be able to get out on a Sunday and play some golf together when this virus is sorted , it’s always good when couples can share a hobby together 👍
The true test to your teaching is making a good golfer out of someone who has never done it before! Your lessons are great!
So good!
I recently started watching your videos they are super as I stated in previous comment to you I thorughly enjoyed them I am recommending these to my fellow players if they want to improve their golf game.My question is do you have any these videos for sale?. I plan to practise over the Winter season some of your techniques in my downstairs practise area. I am recovering from some injuries that has affected my golf swing so I think your teaching skills will help alot.
Thank you
Yours truly
Margaret S.
No I will have a new website up and running from 14th December so please have a look there to register interest
Great instructions for a beginner. Looking Forward how your wife is improving, probably you can make in a few month a golf vlog, would be great to See you at the course!
Sorry Anna it’s all about you getting lessons but the passion your husband shows you is tremendous good for him well done Russell
Good lesson
Excellent
Russell your wife is a quick Lerner keep up the good work loved the video
Great stuff Russell. Can you do a follow up on the transition/start of downswing? I think many of us struggle with that move.
We’ll get there
Looks like Anna is enjoying learning golf.👍
Amazing how what would seem simple is not necessarily easily learned
You're onto something here with teaching the wife. Look forward to the next.
Beginners can save a lot of $$$ by watching your this video. Swing pro will hate you. 😁
Just joined your channel yesterday and absolutely love your content. One question though with this drill; I see your head going down a fair bit, and I've always been told that the head will move but not much (may be an inch or so)! I'm trying to link up the sequence together and I look at my tendencies and the stuff I generally tend to do and I'm thinking to myself if I go down then I will definitely chunk it! Any thoughts please?
It’s not uncommon for the head to move in the backswing amongst professionals. It certainly won’t be the reason for mis hitting
Very nice.
you got alot of patients for this vid well done , dont think i could do it with my wife lol
I tried to teach my wife how to drive and it was awful. You are doing well in teaching your wife. Anna was very receptive, too. Amazing. I got a lot eye rollings and tantrums from my wife and I almost had a stroke 🤣
Brilliant, love it. I hope that you are giving a discount 😁⛳
Russell.
I'm copying your routine in this video.
Well done anna.
Keep up the good work
Your doing. Great.
Kevin.
Anna u doing awesome
.......great lesson Russell..... there's a distinct possibility l might actually be able to shoot my age by the time they open up these golf courses around here.... gheesh
Your wife is picking this up very quickly good for her
It looks easy but yet so hard.
Russell - where can I get those golf balls you use for your net please?
Hi . Anybody who keeps the right leg bent in the backswing, because the left leg bends and lowers, if you don't compensate with the right leg straightening then your head will naturally drop. Like it's doing with your wife.
To keep your head from dropping because the left leg loosens height the right leg as to extend to keep your height surely.
And by straightening the right legs helps you get more rotation in your backswing, Especially if you dont have good flexibility.
The devil is always in the details as you said. Working with a beginner such as Anna, really helps identify and highlight those details. We’ve all started out in the same place as Anna and through years of minor adjustments and corrections finally arrive at a somewhat decent swing. Some of us never get there. Fortunately, Anna has a dedicated and experienced trainer. For whatever reason, throwing a ball seems natural, whereas, swinging a golf club seems anything but natural.
It looks like Anna has good potential and more important also the desire to learn the game.
She is lucky to have a great teacher and that is a huge advantage.
We will see her on the LPGA tour in a year or so.
She's got as much chance of being pro as i have of going to the moon.

Russell if I feel like I'm initiating the backswing with my right hip pocket back (versus club head and hands first) is that a good feel in your opinion?
Yeah for sure
@@russellheritagegolf Cheers :)
Very good session. She is a good student and is taking the time to understand the swing. It seems most students just want to know what to do and not really take the time to understand why. Looking forward to watching her progress.
Is it just me or is she dipping more than rotating around her spine ?
it’s good for you to work with anna/beginner, would be easier for you to understand what make things so difficult with hip rotation and understanding the root cause. i saw my problem on Anna’s, if it work with anna than I may too, waiting your next video
Great video think your wife has potential 👍
I like this video. Russ, its a challenge for you to teach Anna a separation . If she can make it than I i should be able able too.😀
😂
THE GRIP TOO.
Hi Robert I saw recently an interesting idea about ideal grip. Get into impact position with the club shaft leaning forward and club face square to target. Now without adjusting this grip take up your normal stance at first address to the ball and see what the grip looks like. This it was suggested should now be the grip you use. Try it and see. Good luck 👍
Congratulations on still being married after the lesson! :)
Hi Russell do you feel the right hip stays lower than the left making the backswing?
Hi Doug Kercher definitely not for a right handed golfer, the hips stay roughly the same if anything the right hip will move slightly higher than the left on the backswing.
@@paddymckibbin3957 its a preference. Many teachers like the right hip.lower.
As a feel this could work for sure. As the pelvis is tilted it would be a feel thing though 👍
This is the interesting bit. For almost 25 years I'd been playing and having lessons before any of my coaches mentioned this. It's really difficult after all that time to get this right.
I have scholiosis and as a result my hips already align to the left of target, so I have to make a real effort to close them at set up, but I then worry that other parts are twisting right to accommodate.
Any physiology experts out there are welcome to contribute.
Hi Kevin Check out a Scottish pga pro on UA-cam called Steve Johnston and his Eureka swing. He teaches aim body left (for right handed player) swing out to right and aim club just right of target. Gets a nice draw ball flight. Good luck 👍
@@paddymckibbin3957 Thanks Paddy, I'll take a look.
👍
Russell... I think your jeans maybe restricting your separation 😀👍
Do you think it will be easier to get your Mrs to make the move the say a golfer who's been playing for yrs? Cheers static 👍👍🤔
I’ll let you know
Great tips Russell pretty wife and she is getting there if I did this video would be her proper chocking me lol good job
