I have tried for months to learn this move and watched this video and picked it up straight away. Just brilliant!
This guy is golf’s genius 🙌🏽
Consistently great content! Thank you
That drill is a game changer. Brilliant. Many thanks for sharing.
I first learned the squat move from Sam Snead's book a long time ago. I have played my best golf when I can coordinate my swing with the squat move incorporated. I Love DJ's swing and love the squat move. Master this for solid ball striking, power and a good looking swing. Thanks Russell, keep up the good work I love this channel!
Excellent drill, thank you. I see many tour players lowering their heads during the backswing as well and even more during the downswing.
Love this one!
Great video Russell. Something i had worked on in the past and forgotten about to be honest. It was definitely resulting in a better strike and felt more effortless, feeling like you could swing slower creating more power. Cant wait to be playing again.
Learning how do this correctly was a game changer for me. Emphasis here on correctly with the help of a professional. Down to low single figures, scratch not far away. It was a lightbulb moment for me that the swing is just as much below your body as it is around. Like the swing set in the park, the swing seat is below the chains and structure. The downward and forward motion gets the golf swing moving with speed...without effort and tension. As a result my back foot is not naturally staying in the ground for longer because I’m not rotating out of the swing too early.
Excellent detail.
Nice ideas for a good starting point. TY.
Big time enjoyed the video
💪 Work 💛
Tried the move at the course today. I struggle with getting my weight to my back left heel on the downswing. I’m right handed. This made a huge difference, probably at least a half to full club length longer with no more effort and a higher more penetrating ball flight.Thanks. I’ll keep working on that squat.
Hey Russel. Been a long time viewer now since i started my golf journey 1 year ago. I have gone from last season to this season from 31 to 19.8 hcp. been watching you mainly but also others and it has been an absolute joy. (you are my favourite). I have 1 question though. Dustin Johsson likes to play the fade, but does that mean he shallows the club enough to still hit a good solid shot from an outside -> in path? Cheers from sweden! // Marcus
I concentrate on squat and rotate, definitely helps keep the right hip back and stops me humping the goat. Also it forces the hands to stay lower as any raising of the hands through impact will lay a nice sod of turf over the ball. Great vid 👍
Great drill to understand sequencing. I’m a taller player and tend to get steep in my downswing (over the top). When my swing falls apart, I focus on doing exactly this. My contact instantly improves even if it doesn’t feel as powerful (because I just let my hands fall).
Brilliant! One question though. From the side on perspective of DJ, when he rotates back his head and center of chest seems to be more centered over ball than when you are performing the drill. Are you intentionally exaggerating a "shift" to the right for purposes of the drill?
Wow, the flexion/extension has been a complete missing element in my swing, just trying this with a click trainer is like night and day. Look forward to working on this.
Great video .... however .... when do you recenter ??????
Thanks Russell. When I try to do this I feel like I put a lot of pressure on my left ankle (like I am going over on it). Guessing this is due to another swing fault but any thoughts would be appreciated. (Flaring left foot helps a little bit still uncomfortable) thanks
Exactly what i needed to understand. Thanks so much!
I was just having an issue topping my hybrid, at 6’4 I will try this out on the range, seems your pointers come right on time with my issues, are you spying on me. Lol
I reach a squat position with club coming down on plane. Now coming into impact, do I start coming back up again? Or do I stay down and just rotate? @russellheritage
I'd like to ask a seemingly simple question. You described the squat as a move meant to reestablish the angles at address. Doesn't this make the squat a bit of a "compensation" move? If you maintained the angles established at address in the backswing as much as is biomechanically possible, it seems to me the squat would then become an unnecessary "compensation" move, or at least very subtly needed. Fewer compensation moves equals a more accurate and repeatable swing...correct? That being said, however, it is nearly impossible to properly "hit the slot" without shallowing the club and rotating/clearing the hips.
I’ll be talking about the squatting (lowering) move and the affect it can have on hitting the golf ball very soon
I find when I try to do the squat I’m very prone to hitting the ground behind the ball. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
need forward shaft lean
Dustin head never goes up ?
Off course it does
I think you might get be providing a brilliant piece of information but you've done it in a wordy convoluted way.
Can't you distill it down to the simple move with minimum words and without showing "how" to do it "wrong"?
It would great if you focused on what TO DO instead of what NOT to do.
Just show us HOW to do it.
Keep it simple dude this is painful to watch
