Hey thanks so much for making this video. The dealership wanted $1,000 to replace my alternator. I bought a replacement from NAPA for $230 & replaced it myself. Saved me big money. Thanks again for the tips on that lower bolt. Hardest part was removing the wire harness.

Hey sir I replaced the alternator successfully but when I start up the corolla, the belt sounds like it slipping and it’s making a squealing/screeching sound and then it goes away. Any tips bro?

Seems rather silly to not replace the belt, too... I'm replacing both as soon as I find my tools.

@@RBTheMechanic OK.... I got the new alternator on and tried to put the new belt on. It was hard to get over the alternator pulley. So I compared old and new. The old one was slightly longer, I assume because it's stretched.. The old one looked ok, so I put the old one back on with a little difficulty (the alternator was still pushed all the way back), but before I got the tensioner back to its original position, the old belt was tight. What have I done wrong? I did feel and eyeball the belt path and it's correct according to the diagram I found. I'm not cranking the car until I am certain I haven't done something wrong.

@@katiesinthekitchen it dosent have to come to only spot as long as u feel the belt has correct tightness due to new belt will be slightly small don’t want to over tighten it

@@RBTheMechanic That's the thing. It isn't the new belt because we could not get it over the pulley on the new alternator, so we opted to use the old belt after inspecting it. I put my hand back there and traced the belt path. There is one thing over the crank shaft pulley that looks like the belt goes under it. Maybe I am wrong and need to get dirty again because I ran the belt under that... I need a better engine diagram to go by. (I spent 12 years assembling telecom equipment, according to engineering diagrams, so it would be helpful). It just seems like it should have more slack.
