Past mid sixties the American cars were white bread. I used to drive cars like the ones here to the wrecking yard to get parts for the classic beauties of the fifties. Mid sixties my uncle quit the wrecking yard business and started crushing up huge collections of cars all over Texas. Made a lot more money but it was heartbreaking to see the old cars turned into refrigerators. Toyota makes the best cars ever for the average person but they will be left behind by Tesla and BYD.
Old farts like me and the technology of my generation are past the sell by date.

I found a Cadillac El Dorado diesel my uncle had previously owned in a junkyard years ago. I was looking for parts for a Jeep Wagoneer and saw a black caddy that looked familiar. The car had previously been gold colored but my uncle's ex wife wanted it painted black so he paid some body shop big $$$ to change the color. I suspected it was their car based on a yacht club sticker that was on the back window and a little scratching with my pocket knife revealed gold paint under the black. He did not junk the car he sold it to someone else who apparently never scraped my uncle's yacht club sticker off the back window.

No, it was a Bertone. I had one. The bodies were always built by Bertone. They sold the bodies, to Fiat, who installed drivetrains, and sold them, under the Fiat name. When Fiat decided to end production, Bertone wasn't ready to end it, so instead, bought Fiat drivetrains, and built the cars themselves, and they were sold as Bertones. My title, said Bertone, not Fiat.

It survived because it was a tow company and not open to the public as a salvage yard...that's why the vehicles are so complete. First-gen, pre-facelift Escort at 5:16. I’ve loved the Mercury version for a shade over three decades now, particularly the 1982 base model 2-door in medium blue metallic with matching interior. No bodyside trim, an open space between the door and quarter window and sometimes no console at all in the manuals, making for a very clean look in my opinion.
As for that Dodge A-van, back in the late 80s when I was in grade 2, there was a dark blue Fargo-badged example (the “R” missing from the front) parked long term on the grass just beyond a driveway near my school, also full of junk.

It's very peculiar, I have never seen a junkyard like that in person. I'm from California and all the junk yards with classic cars all the cars are in just fantastic shape no corrosion no pitting no rust. It's too bad a lot of those cars are there because they're getting destroyed from rust and corrosion you can't restore that. I don't think the cars are even worth anything in that condition. Not far outside of Palm Springs I know somebody that had three Dodge Chargers ine 69 and two 68s , only one had an engine and transmission.. but he sold all three of them for $50,000.
Had just a fraction of that junkyard been here in California or Arizona, he's literally looking at millions of dollars. Instead they're rotting into the Earth. Shows you what life was like in America not so long ago cars were easily disposable after only 10 years, when I was young I picked up Dodge Chargers Camaros mustangs all in good shape all in good running condition for $3,000 or less.
You can't do that now... That $3,000 is a monthly car payment with insurance

Clicked on this because I saw a red 5 door Chevy Citation! My grandpa bought one new in 1980, babied it but also drove it like a cement truck as they used it to bring materials to build not one but 2 homesteads. In 1992 I learned how to drive stick on that old car and shortly after and with a documented 386k miles, grandpa sold it for $150. The guy who bought it, still drives it occasionally to this day! Many people hated the Citation but with the base, manual, 4 cylinder it was a beast.
