Great shave Matt! When I first got started with real straights, I was also thrown off a little by the “tug”, vs the super-clean plowing of my shavette. But I’ve now come to love them so much, I shave with them exclusively these days (throwing in my Feather AC or safety when I “feel it” every so often)

I never got cut bad with a straight razor I always got a couple weepers but I never actually sliced myself until recently, about a week ago I was shaving and I forgot I really feel my face to see if there’s any marks or ingrown hairs or something and there’s a bump on my chin somewhere and I went through it with my straight razor and really opened up something and started leaking!!! 🤕 that I was the first time I got cut , It took forever to stop the bleeding because I don’t have an alum block or static pencil lol I actually never used either of them

Thank you for mentioning that sandalwood is OK for you even with sensitive skin; I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Have a great weekend. Take good care and be safe and be well. Matt, you have confirmed something that I have thought for years, My straight razor is not great for shaving around the goatee/chin area, and the shavette can be a little dicey as well. I usually keep the goatee, or will only shave that area with my DE. I literally have used all three on many occasions. thanks for the video.

Spoke to Elvis on the ouija-iPhone and he wants his sideburns back!
Says to send me a shirt, since he can't wear one.
I'd have destroyed the entire mess with a shavette myself but the chin and lip areas could have used an open comb DE, just to limit the number of strokes.
The Envoy looks alright for daily shaving but not for hedge removal!

Great and Fun video Matt! I totally agree with you about irritation from scented products! I have bad allergies and scented products really bother me. From shampoo, to body soap and shaving soap. I find many artisan soap makers do not offer “unscented” versions of their soaps. Are you thinking of offering an Unscented version of your Shaving soap? Think about it, it may not be a huge market, but I think it is very important! Thanks and have a great weekend!👍👍👍

I sure am glad I don't have beard growth that heavy, but I guess it's not that bad if you shave every day. Today I tried my Feather S.S. shavette with a Schick Proline blade for the first pass and my Envoy XL with a Perma-Sharp blade for pass two and three. Got a good shave with a bit of alum burn but I did get in a hurry and nicked my upper right cheek with the tip of the shavette blade, darn it. Definitely need more practice with an artist club type but I don't think I will ever get really comfortable like I am with a DE razor.
PS: You really look better without that Paul Bunyan beard.

That’s why people like Shavettes that take have half a double edge blade, there is no hassle or maintenance! Not saying anything to the guys that like to strop , hone or really enjoy using Straights most of the time. It’s just a lot of people don’t have time for that. And I have my own stones, leathers and everything it’s just if you were to ask me which one is better I would say safety razors. Still like everything about straight razors just not as much!

Here’s another example related to irritation, though it’s related to skin it’s. It related to the head or face but it’s related. I cannot use underarms deodorant that has the blue color to it. It causes huge irritation. But the deodorant bars with the pure “ivory white” color are just fine. So it is the additives that cause the irritation

  • @magnoliamike

I was recently using my Straight Razor and my CJB kamasori Style Shavette.
And I haven’t been using those types of razors for a little while because recently I’ve been strictly team safety razor. For reasons that are kind of obvious. I just enjoy the overall experience better with a DE there I said it! I can use both no problem but only thing is I take a lot longer with a straight razor and I don’t get as close or as comfortable as a Shave because doing the chin and neck area is such a pain in the ass!!! 😡
All of that nonsense out of the way, 👉🏻
    - I noticed a main difference between the blades when it comes to Shavette style that takes have a DE or a Feather Artist Club Styke like with my CJB Kamasori. The Artist club professionals are known to be a lot thicker not sure if that has something to do with it not cutting right. Even on the first pass it was pulling and tugging , feeling uncomfortable. With using the DE way you have a lot more variety of blade type to choose from weather it be a feather or a derby or anything in between. If you don’t like that artist club leaves you only have like three different choices , so what are the brain is a little bit longer I did a hack and found out you can actuallyusecthe Schick injectors in the scissor style Shavettes! 😉👌🏻 I used pre shave and my lather was maby a little dry but it just kept tugging even after I added more water to my face.. I think for the artist club blades to work properly you have to first trim your facial hair down with a buzzer as short as you can BUT!!!!! the double edged blades doesn’t even need to do that!!! I could go through two weeks no problem! But recently I’ve been using both Shavette and kamasori for shaping up my beard when I have one. I used to alternate between safety razors (vintage Gillette, modern, SE’s etc) and straight razor/Shavette for every other shave but recently I’ve just been sticking to the safety razor up until now I’m going to try to make it a little bit more even or try to fit at least one straight razor shave a week in.

VERY INFORMATIVE,ON HOW TO TREAT YOUR FACE TO GET SMOOTH SHAVE!: RASH FREE

  • @ConvictJ96
    @ConvictJ96 3 роки тому

I agree it's important to know your pattern but I don't think you need to grow a half-yeard to see your pattern. You can do your shave like you normally would, wait a day, then feel around on your face. If it feels kind of smooth you're going with the grain, if it feels very prickly then you're going against the grain. Then when you shave next time you'll apply your new knowledge, on your last pass you can feel around, see what the trouble spots are and mentally note the grain direction. I guess it's sort of grain mapping but you're keeping the map in your brain and just refining it over time via practice.

See? exactly!!! My comment below ⬇️ 👇🏻 talks about how harder the chin area is to do with straight razors then safety razors I always do it with the four straight razor and never switch out for a safety razor I think that defeats the purpose of using it. Though a very good idea and I did it in the beginning when I was first learning how to use a straight but, I just think that if you can’t get a decent shave with just using the straight razor you shouldn’t use it if you have to keep on tagging in the safety razor you shouldn’t even use a straight in the first place! I do three pair shaves on my chin and underneath my nose! I know pretty Balsley right?! Lol but yeah I’ll never say shaving with a straight razor is better than a supervisor because it scientifically ignorant to say Given the technology of the safety razors and the upkeep you have to do with the street just to get a horrible shave (compared to the traditional safety razor) 😎

I did have ingrowns because I became lazy with the beard- I didn't shave my lower neck on my regular schedule of every other day. Instead I would let 4-5 days go by without cleaning things up. Hence the ingrowns. Happy to report that I've stuck to my schedule ever since this video and my neck has never looked better!

No offense, but you need to grow your chin back.
