Thank you as always for the "jumpseat pass". Your channel has also been steadily growing reflecting the great content, enthusiasm and inspiration that you and the members of your company bring to each video.
I always appreciate a self critical, modest attitude from pilots. Your Go-Around critique was nice to hear. I have flown with many guys who tend to make excuses when the inevitable “whatever” happens. Even the professionals make errors and mess up an occasional procedure. No shame in it. Good stuff.
For those of us who dream of sitting in your seat but life had a different path, your videos are the closest thing to actually being there. Nothing on here comes close to your outstanding vlogs and each one is unique. Thanks Ern!
You're humbleness in admitting you were caught off guard is nothing to worry about. Everyone makes mistakes and has an off moment in anything they do. You went home safe and the crew/passengers did as well and that's the most important thing! Absolutely love the content of this channel and can't wait to see what else is in store.
I don't fly often but when I do fly, I fly Southwest. I am in Austin. I just wanted to say that recently, after a scary flight in a thunderstorm between Houston and Austin, I developed a severe phobia of flying. I didn't realize I had a phobia of flying until I got on a plane again and had a full blown crying, hyperventilating, shaking panic attack while in the air. I am supposed to fly again in a couple weeks for the first time since then and I have been extremely nervous. All this to say.... I stumbled upon your channel and seeing a pilot showing how it all works helps IMMENSELY in working through my fear. Thank you for sharing your experiences and thank you for keeping everyone on the plane safe.
Your videos get better and better. Last week, I flew on SWA 2472 from PHX to COS and had the opportunity to chat with the Captain when we landed. I sat in the right seat and it felt like that's where I'm meant to be (in a pilot's seat, regardless of FO or Captain). I'm in my 40's but I know I'll make it.
It’s great to see how transparent you are in owning up to a flawed go around procedure and turning it into a lesson for us aspiring pilots. Keep up the great work absolutely love your videos
Always appreciate your videos Ernie! Love your easy going interaction with your viewers, other crew members, and ATC controllers. I don't have the experience you do, but when I was trying to earn my private pilot license, my instructors always hammered home that you have to expect the unexpected and to always be ahead of the airplane. Never be complacent in flying the airplane!
Hey Ernie I just wanted to say that I look up to you as a person and a role model and to see you have such a positive mindset when you do have those early mornings, just makes me want to strive even harder for my own personal goals!!! Thanks for all you do for the Southwest Airlines community!! I hope to see you as our first officer on my way to KOMA one of these day!!!!

I saw a China Airlines 747 coming in over the 405 at LAX about a week or so ago in good weather, kept watching the landing though I was trying to also keep my eyes on the road while southbound; then, was surprised and secretly even a little delighted to see that he for some reason decided to abort the landing and go around, after "floating", I thought, for an unusual amount of time. He was already well west of the 405 and over the runway when he did so! Then he made a slow climbing turn to the southwest----that has to be a fairly rare sight, a 747, aborting that late in the landing?
Great video! Had my grandkid going in/out of DAL on SWA during that weather...nailbiting here in COS. Nice to know alternatives planned and YES! We all have curve balls thrown at us @ work. Just makes you better!! EZ to see why we moved years ago..East is nice with a huge BUT u see in Chicago.
I too enjoy your videos as occasional SWA passenger. It’s great you show when at arrival airports, sometimes wish away to show while approaching or departing to airport cockpit view as shows what goes on, I understand a lot going on in cockpit. It is what is. Love videos keep it up. Safe flights always Ern & all captains:) look forward to meeting you up in Payson Az in green plane.
I like this already put me at ease about flyig. Ive only been to Egypt , Aruba, Peru, and Croatia. Im a scardy cat lol My next stop is Dublin in April.
I think all of us flying in the airlines get caught off guard when we need to execute go arounds. We just don't do them enough. Once a year in the sim just doesn't cut it. I'll honestly say that I botched up my last real go around procedures and callouts pretty bad. But mistakes are an important part of this profession. We need to make mistakes in order to define our ever-evolving and rotating weaknesses. That way we can direct our focus and drive ourselves through better preparation and work our best to never let it happen again. That self-critique that you displayed in your car before heading home is an attitude that makes a professional and makes a better pilot.
Back at Nashville, I noticed at the next gate, Canyon Blue 737-700. How you can tell besides the shade of Blue is SOUTHWEST is on the tail and not on the fuselage. Ern...hopefully the airline will put you on Freedom One and show us in a video. Thats such a cool livery. I have a diecast of that plane. N500WR. CHEERS!
Hey Mike! Honestly the way I can tell is the overwing emergency hatches. -800 have two on each side. I hope I get to fly it soon too! I’ll do some filming when I do👍🏽

As a meteorologist in the NWS, I wish I could sit in the cockpit of a flight! I think it would be so cool
