    it does have the fastest attack speed in the game, it has 1.0. that sentence is not claiming it is the ONLY pet with that attack speed. the bat also has the fastest attack speed in the game, the same 1.0
    1.0 is the fastest attainable pet attack speed in the game. broken tooth has that fastest attack speed

      I see that argument, and I suppose it's not wrong technically. However, I think it has lead to many people thinking Broken Tooth is the only pet that can attack with a 1.00. My aim was just to inform them that Broken Tooth has ONE of the fastest attack speeds in the game.

      Well .. it's probably less ambiguous to say: 1.0 is the fastest attack speed in the game instead of naming a specific pet with that speed. I remember people won't believe me when classic hits, that there's more than BT with 1.0. Even though I claimed that I had both, BT and the (tank annoying screeching) ZG bat, back in the vanilla days.

    Some things I'd like to add:
    1) While cats use focus on dash, it regenerates on the way to the target, also movement speed can mean survival/utility too, and that makes a big difference. Cats also eat fish in addition to just meat, so superior there too. As an added bonus, they have prowl, which can have it's advantages too,even in raiding. Raptors have nothing to show to make up for any of those advantages, hence cats>raptors
    2) 1.0 is the fastest attack speed avaiable, BT has it => BT has the fastest attack speed. Blood seekers having it as well doesn't make it a misconception ;). I have heard that the blood seekers actually have a 0.9 attack speed, which would indeed make them faster, and which indeed would make the statement regarding BT false, I have however not seen any evidence of that being true. Extensive testing would be required.
    3) Both Lightning Shield and Shadowguard are limited to proc once every few seconds, hence pet speed doesn't impact them really.

    Really nice video T.J., it triggers many thoughts for hunter pet lovers.
    You mentioned you wouldnt find such food for thought when it comes to pets in later expansions. From TBC onwards they equalised all attack speeds and made it more talent/ability dependent, so I agree with that.
    However, in WotLK... they increased the pet species range, redefined their abilities to many more plus the exotic ones for BM and even created three different talent trees (tenacity, ferocity and cunning), which also gives a LOT of thinking for solo playing, raiding and PvP. Just as a personal addition! :)

    Faster attacks doesn't equal more crits, it's a higher frequency of crits, so your frenzy won't proc more, just faster. It's the same difference as ping vs bandwidth, or the diameter of a pipe vs water pressure.

    What about pet buffs and how they affect the pets dps. LIke wouldn't the buff from a juju of power do more dps on a faster attack speed?

    • @apollosungod6673
      @apollosungod6673 3 роки тому +1

      I don't think so, because the pet dps is the same across the board regardless of their base attack speed and attack power bonuses add a flat amount of dps, I think that means the dps is still the same as the buff is the same on both pets. However, there is something to be said about pet survivability, especially in raids. I find that faster attack speed pets get more of their damage off before dying in fights where I have to worry about that so the damage they contribute is technically higher than the slower attack speed ones. Or even in really short trash fights the faster ones tend to be more efficient because they will get more hits off rather than waiting for their next swing.

    Cats vs raptors. Cats still win this battle since they have dash and get to the target faster = start doing damage sooner = more damage in a 10 second window that starts when you send the pet in.

    First, you don't run, BM or Cts in raids. Raidspecc is almost allways Marksman, Also pets will get demolished by AOE attacks. You either have a Windserpent for some extra ranged damage, or the more popular Wolf, that is only there to use Furious Howl.
    For PVP fast speed is still desirable, as you will kite a Warrior anyways, so the crit buffs don't really matter. Being able to knockback spells is much more valuable.
    Third there is one major downside of using a 1.0 pet, and that is solo play. In the regular BM/MM specc 1.0 Pets (Bats are still less DPS then cats, so BT is still the only real viable 1.0 pet)
    Broken Tooth will have a really hard time keeping up with the hunters aggro. The sweet spot is at 1.2/1.3 attack speed. I personally use a 1.2 cat.
    So the 3 pets you want are:
    A Wolf/Wind Serpent for raids.
    Broken Tooth for PVP
    A 1.2/1.3 cat for Solo farming.
    Personally i don't care too much for PVP, and using a 1.2 cat is not that much worse, so would forgo BT for a Carrion Bird, for its Screech ability.

    • @classict.j.1311
      @classict.j.1311  4 роки тому

      "Raidspecc is almost allways Marksman"
      You say "almost", meaning there are hunters that aren't Marksman . That's the people I am speaking to here.
      And you talk about kiting a warrior as if it's an easy win. That's easier said than done, as I've found warriors to be a nightmare if they get the charge on you, especially in a BG where other variables are present.
      I agree with the lit you have tho.
      I use:
      1.2 Cat DPS/PvP
      Scorpid for Solo (Preference, not because it's best)
      Windserpent

      @@classict.j.1311 Why would you run BM in raid? And beyond that, if you're already running a suboptimal spec why does it matter what pet you have in raid? You'd do more damage using MM spec without a pet than BM with a pet.

    • @da1cloud
      @da1cloud 3 роки тому +1

      Solo farming is ruled by how quickly you can tag the mob (especially if their loot is valuable) SO....gorillas make a better pet. There's nothing quite like pulling 4-6 mobs and having your pet thunderstomp, FD and burn down the mobs before another players rolls through an area.

    • @apollosungod6673
      @apollosungod6673 3 роки тому +1

      I'm gonna have to disagree with this. If you are properly managing your pets cats are still a sizable dps increase overall in raids for hunters even with virtually no investment in the BM tree(all I take is imp aspect of the hawk for the proc). Wind serpents are nice, but their focus dump costs 50 focus and can be resisted. Claw/Bite(claw is used much more) cannot. Plus, when you factor in tier set bonuses for resistances and the way you spec your beast training there's no reason why your pets shouldn't have at least a 50% uptime in bossfights in raids since a lot of the aoe damage is an elemental type...

  • @Stockaholics
    @Stockaholics Рік тому +1

    If claw procs frenzy shouldn't a 2.0 speed cat be the highest dps? It means the 30% bonus will actually have more uptime since the specials are procing it and the base attack is consuming less charges. I could see 1.0 being better in very short fights and 2.0 being superior in sustained fights. If the mobs are facing your cat many also have a chance to block, meaning a bigger % of your cat's attack will be blocked with a 1.0 speed pet vs 2.0. I havn't played a hunter before so if special attacks like claw don't proc frenzy than this is accurate and I am wrong.

    • @bjorntuttifrutti
      @bjorntuttifrutti 9 місяців тому

      Had this discussion a long time ago with a Friend and he explained it like this to me: 30% is 30%. Doesnt matter if you gain a larger chunk because all pets have the same dps. 30% out of 100 dps will be 30% no matter. Not sure if that helps or holds true but i hate math!

    • @arcanine_059
      @arcanine_059 9 місяців тому +1

      @@bjorntuttifrutti I would agree with you if it were increasing DPS or Damage by 30%. The tooltip states it's increasing attack speed by 30%. So in theory a slower attack speed would gain more. 2.0 => 1.4 (30% of 2 = 0.6) vs 1.0 => 0.7 (30% of 1 = 0.3). Since damage is not being modified, the 2.0 pet actually experiences a larger DPS increase.
      On the other hand, maybe blizz calculates a 30% increase against a hidden 'attack speed' number instead of a swing timer. Meaning a 1.0 speed pet has a higher attack speed number and actually experiences a larger benefit than a slow pet.
      On the other other hand, maybe the damage value a pet produces is normalized to a pets 'active' atk speed. Meaning Frenzy doesn't actually increase pet DPS at all (xD lmao)
      It'd have to be tested but few ppl raid with this talent so I think that's why noone cares to test this lol.

    • @svetoslavyanyov8852
      @svetoslavyanyov8852 3 місяці тому

      Yes, this is what I was thinking. On top of that, a 2.0 pet with 30% attack speed might be pushed to the point where it can maintain permanent attack speed buff.

  • @bandit7459
    @bandit7459 4 роки тому +4

    1. Losing focus by using dash is still going to net more dps. Claw doesn't actually do much damage at all. Those 2-3 auto attacks lost are better than a lost claw. If your using an owl/bat your losing uptime on screech when it matters...at the start of the fight where healers are getting into position.
    2. Raiding/pvping as BM isn't common. Frenzy point is moot.
    3. Many guilds with high melee counts run Gift of arthas in raids. The faster the pet attacks the more dps while this debuff is up.

    • @classict.j.1311
      @classict.j.1311  4 роки тому +1

      Raiding as BM isn't common, but it does happen. Go to the Classic WoW discord and you'll find a number of hunters who proudly raid as BM, knowing it isn't the top DPS spec available. So saying something is "moot" because it applies to the group that isn't the majority seems elitist.

  • @Carpatouille
    @Carpatouille Рік тому

    Well cats ARE the highest DPS with Frenzy, because cats do more damage than bats, and scale better than Raptors with it if you have Broken Tooth or similarly faster cats than raptors usually are. Plus, as you said, the fact it gets there faster, meaning outside of raids it still does more damage than raptors, and arguably also in raids and dungeons in shorter fights. So this is not a misconception.

  • @Zathien
    @Zathien 2 роки тому

    if running bm the 1.0 pet will have more damage due to having more consistency with the Frenzy talent. One downside of the high attack speed are mobs with thorn abilities, the turtles outside of theramore wreck any high attack speed pet. Owls and Cats are both better for dps (both having claw with only -3% dmg on owl) due to raptor not having dash.
