The old main line still sees plenty of action, bring coal in to the coal piers in Baltimore and bringing auto racks and tankers. The line goes through Ellicott City into Baltimore.
BTW, the first railroad in American ran from Baltimore City to Ellicott Mills ( now Ellicott City) . The first railroad terminus is in Ellicott City and is now a train museum. It's a great place for a family to spend an afternoon. Lots of history and the beautiful Patapso Valley and River nearby.
