Ahh thank you so much!! Yeah I feel like plant hauls and unboxings used to take up a lot of space, so there's more room to create different types of content ☺️
@@wildfern it’s funny, when I first started the hobby I used to love seeing all these new plants. Now a few years and a 100 plants later, I love chores and reporting videos haha
I feel like people skip over marantas bc they hear “prayer plant” & assimilate calathea issues with them. I came across one of the 6in hanging baskets of a lemon lime in Home Depot with the most beautiful purple blooms on it. When I tell you, it continued to consistently bloom for me for MONTHS. I had tiny dead flowers everywhere underneath it on the windowsill😂 but thrips MOWED her down almost nothing😭😭 it is bouncing back pretty well so I’m thrilled, but I know she’s in no place to flower again soon. Her name is Sprite bc it’s lemon lime and that’s the first thing that came to me lol. Marantas are awesome!! #MarantaMafia 😂 Great video Fern 🌿💖
maranta squad rise up!! 🙌 i don’t see how they’re not more popular either. They grow fast, they’re stunning, and pretty easy. it was my first ever houseplant, and ever since that day I have been forever obsessed. Someone literally just gave me a variegated one today and I’m very very excited :^)
The monkey tail is one of my favorites! I would definitely suggest putting it outside during the growing season if possible, mine started THRIVING when I did that. If you do propagate it from a couple inches from the base it will throw out a ton of offshoots from where it was cut.
@@wildfern I live in Southern California and have it out on my patio getting about 4 hours of direct morning sun. I would be nervous to propagate too, my son actually chopped one of mine on accident 😅 The top rooted fairly quickly and 5 babies grew from the base!
YES to maranta love, also Calathea and stromanthe, I love all of those and they do not deserve the hate they get. I feel like they are beginner plants for a lot of people because they are so beautiful but not supper hardy, I had the same experience. But now at 70+ plants they are comparably low maintenance and are showstoppers. At this point, alocasia and anthuriums are my enemies 😂
I just got baby Maranta black recently and indeed it's gorgeous... We definitely need more Marantas fans :) I feel the reason for low interest is that there are literally 5 or 6 in cultivation and people like collecting. You can't have 500 different Marantas, you need Hoyas for that 🙃
i totally agree with maranta, I recently got my first one as a cutting, a fascinator. within 2 months it has grown 6 new leaves and is now in bloom! I love having plants that tell me when I’m doing things right!
Girlie I’m loving the hair!!! And the eyeliner and lashes! Look so awake and fresh!! So dang cute!! 🥰🥰🥰 I’m going to check out fabulous because most days more then I’d like to admit I feel very overwhelmed and just avoid it all , such a bad things to dooo!!!
Loved your plant choices and as always your planty content too! Don't give up on your variegated string of hearts. Bottom water it and put it in a large ziplock bag full of air and place it under your grow lights. The humidity will help it plump back up and grow fast again. You can also prop it using the butterfly method to make a fuller pot. This recently happened to mine after a move/ neglect and this worked like a charm! Good luck!
Yea, we gotta shut that complaint down about the hoya compacta! I have THREE of them ( it's still one of my favorite plants) and NONE of them have ever gotten a pest. They definitely take a bit to get going if you start with a small one, but once they're established they actually grow pretty fast! It's always one of the first plants that people ask about when they come over too cuz it's such a unique looking plant❤❤
28:38 mine did the same thing i just unpotted it and let it soak in water until they grew some more roots that are "fresh" and now its actually thriving (took only 2 weeks or so)
I agree with maranta being underrated. The silver band is my #1 wish list right now. I have never seen one in person before. And I got my variegated maranta because of yours and I'm obsessed. She's gorgeous 😍
Sooo agree on the maranta front. I just traded for a 2 leaf silver band and I'm IN LOVE and hope I can get it to successfully grow. My other maranta have been happy so 🤞🤞🤞
I so love all your videos. They are so relaxing and informative. Glad to hear your mental health is better. I struggle with depression and anxiety. Also have had panic attacks. That is not fun. I live in Oregon and am à senior trying to retire but so love to listen to you your voice is so calming. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for talking about Syngonium Frosted Heart 😍 it's one of my favorite plants and it's growing so well. I feel like it's overlooked a lot. Every time I show this to a guest they are like 'ah, yes, that's nice. Show me the Mojhito again' 😅 It's so underrated
Very interesting topic! I have to agree with you on the Boro's Tail. Such a striking looking plant. I was drawn to it immediately when I first saw it in the 70's, and it still impresses me.
Ayyyeee always love getting on YT to see a new video from you! A very welcome surprise after doing a ton of housework and some work out in my gardens/patio ponds. You have some really good favs in this list, the Euphorbia trigona is SUCH a pretty plant. I finally got one last year and its grown so well for me. Really excited to move mine, along with the rest of my cacti and succulents, back outside this summer loll.
This was a great video. I’m not sure I could pick one out the crowded genus’s to show off. I agree with the variegated SOH. I’ve got two tiny two inch pots growing in my quarantine room. When they get a big bigger I’m going to combine them. I’ll try to chop and prop some when they get bigger. One has quite a full pot. The other is a couple strings. I lost the top leaves on the top after I got it. I think I over watered it. But I’m hopeful that I can fill it in and have a full pot.
Ain't nobody callin you basic!! I love it and Greta is amazing, I remember her before you chopped her, beautiful. Totally enjoyed this video and I loved all of your choices!!
Can highly recommend the amphioxus. Mine lives in my cabinet and gives me no trouble, roots like a champ, and grows quickly. Very easy going and looks so cool! Even if you get a cutting, you’ll soon have a good sized plant.
I also love the marble queen ! such an amazing plant. never gave me any trouble and it even survives in the care of my friend who kills every other plant :D
Amphioxus is so cool. Had a real tough time when I first got mine, leaves shed off it. Took a bit for me to get it the right humidity and watering. Now it’s doing great! New leaves a plenty
I hope your silver sword props have been working out well. In my experience they start maturing really quick when they attach to a pole so hopefully it won’t take long for you to have a big leafed one again 💚
Begonia amphioxus is one of my all time favorite plants maybe number one haha it’s soooo cool, I killed my first cuz they’re a bit tricky to keep but once you get the hang of it it grows like weeds, I have 4 now.
I'm planning on putting all my cacti outside for the summer. I found that they just grow so much better and faster and that's the only way I have gotten any of them to bloom.
If you want the vittarifolium to mature faster you could plant it deeper and put moss or soil further up the stem so the new aerial roots can grow and grab on to something :) Pallidiflorum is high up on my list as well. Mine currently has 16 inch leaves and the 2nd inflorescence coming up. Im so excited to pollinate it :)
you mentioned the marble queen fenestration thing....I saw ginormous golden pothos when I was in costa rica last week...they were climbing up the trees and the leaves were at least 3 feet long and had fenestration....I thought they were monstera aureas at first. they were so gorgeous!
I have a burros tail and have had multiple bear paws. For some reason my burros tail does not lose leaves easily but all 3 bear paws I’ve had are just as sensitive as people say the burros tail is. I would pick up the plant without touching the leaves and they would fall off! Still love them though 😭
Wow !!! Your Frydek has so many leaves.... every time others show theirs they can never seem to have more than 2 or 3 leaves if they are lucky 🤣 I agree with all of your taste in plants except the cactus ( like i told you before that tail sticking out of the soil makes me want to gag ) 😣 Thanks for sharing 😁
ok your syngonium erythrophyllum made my jaw drop. It's SO gorgeous! I revived mine from root rot, hopefully she gets as big and luscious as yours one day!
It's a shame you don't live near by! I'd give you cuttings of the ones you wish to have! Also Marantha's or any prayer plant types are my favorites! Always happy to see your new videos!

I just purchased my Begonia Amphioxus and its my favorite begonia. It’s super exotic and it doesn't surprise me because she is native from Borneo like the alocasia cuprea… they are from another🪐👽 🦧
First off....Love the cute side part pixie hair❤. I hope you do end up treating yourself to a new birthday plant, you deserve it. You asked our opinion on your Monkey Tail cactus...I think you should cut those babies and propagate them in the soil with the mamma. It would be a great start to a long trailing plant. Great fav options. 💚
Love all of your videos Fern! Your plants are beautiful 😌Have you seen Hoya platycaulis? I think you'd like it! it's got really long leaves and its blooms are yellow and smell like lemons 💛
I love your grey feather its beautiful. I got one a few weeks ago and it now has some sun burning on its leaves. Any advice on how you care for yours? Thanks
Get the amphioxus!!!! 🥳 Completely agree about marranta, ctenanthe, calathea/goeppertia, etc - I think they’re great, so unique, and honestly very unproblematic as far as care once you get them acclimated. I have marranta babies coming out of my ears right now, matter of fact😅

Have you seen Begonia Luxurians? It's completely unBegonia looking and is absolutely amazing! I am not really a Begonia person, but that one was so cool, I bought one! Its definitely my favorite Begonia!
Loved this video!! And was so excited whenever one of your favourites was in my collection haha. I just imported a syngonium macrophyllum 'frosted heart' and I am so excited to see it grow up big and beautiful 😍
I've been growing my albo monstera from the one leaf cutting i bought in December. Since then shes given me 3 more leaves, and is high variegation, but won't seem to fenestrate yet 🤔 I'm waaaaaaaaaiting.
Fernnnnnn I literally adore you but if I had a plant for everytime you said it rotted and I grew it back I would be ecuagenera 😂!! 💋 on the other side of that tho, literally you save them like every time which is UNREAL! I can only wish to have the talent you show with saving them!
I would say you can definitely propagate that split tail on your monkey cactus! Lol Often when you cut cacti it triggers them to pup! Just wait for the freshly cut props to callous over first and then you can plant them 😁
Ok I’m going to guess before watching… philodendron silver sword or el choc red; Hoya compacta; succulent: maybeee bear paw idk, monstera: Thai constellation? It’s a love/hate relationship or your var adansonii. Syngonium.. maybe frosted heart? Or albo since you have an albo. Pothos, cebu blue, anthurium: forgetii
Something about the Alocasia Black velvet that always draws me in but I’ve rotted like three of them 😭 I love them but they hate my chronic overwatering habit
Hey Fern! Love your videos. I finally got my hands on this beautiful monkey tail cactus and I was wondering if you could do a care video on it or cactus in general? I’m not to experienced with cacti and I really don’t want to fuck this plant up 🥲 it’s too beautiful
I might have to branch out with the syngoniums, I have quite a few, but they’re all more of the standard arrow shape. I thought for sure you were going to say your favorite was your Syngonium albo😂
Love your selection Fern! Honorable mention to your Florida beauty 🥰 literally made me buy one when I've seen yours before and I love it! 💚 I have a silver hero in pon, which I've purchased recently and it's doing well so far 🤞 also my silver lady is doing amazing in pon. I'm planning on growing them climbing when they get bigger. Take care 💚🌱🌞
Hey fern love your work! I was just wondering why you choose soil over semi-hydro? I know you have some plants in semi-hydro so I was just interested in your preference for soil :)
All amazing choices!! I'll proudly join the maranta fan club, they're so under-appreciated! The silver band is especially gorgeous but for years I haven't been able to find it in Canada, at least not in Toronto. Hopefully they become more accessible for us soon!
Good afternoon lady 👋 I love your mother of plants tee and do you know if it's okay to glue spag to a bamboo pole? I think the syngonium erythophyllum is so underrated. I completely understand not being able to pick one philodendron, they are all so beautiful in different ways.

U made me fall in love with Alocasia frydek, u r right.
Maranta appreciation gang! I love maranta and have my eye on a variegated maranta 😍 also the jungle velvet calathea is my favorite too!!
Hastatum is what made me start my own home jungle and although I am mostly a syngonium guy now, she is still with me and almost 2 meters in height
Wow !!! Your Frydek has so many leaves.... every time others show theirs they can never seem to have more than 2 or 3 leaves if they are lucky 🤣

If you get this Begonia let me know!! I can propagate for you!
First off....Love the cute side part pixie hair❤. I hope you do end up treating yourself to a new birthday plant, you deserve it. Get the amphioxus!!!! 🥳
Completely agree about marranta, ctenanthe, calathea/goeppertia, etc - I think they’re great, so unique, and honestly very unproblematic as far as care once you get them acclimated. I have marranta babies coming out of my ears right now, matter of fact😅

put the hearts in a clay pot in a bright window and soak it once a week... mine is thriving from the tiniest cuttings that way
I love this vid! Philodendron silver sword is also one of my fav philodendrons!! It just gave me TWO new leaves after doing nothing for 3 months 😅
Love your favorite lists!! And the throwback photos of those plants and yourself 😍😍😍
So much gorgeousness in one video! ❤️🥲

It's okay, I'm still grieving the loss of your silver sword and it wasn't even my plant hahaha. Love the little babies!!

🙋🏼♀️ hey fern! Fellow maranta lover here 😂 and I love how you had to mention the linearis. That had me cracking up lol
I just put my small silver sword outside for the summer and taped it to a wooden plank. Here's hoping it will attach!

I love maranta too! They are not loving me back right now but I’m still trying to revive them 😂
I have an amphioxus and I love it. Ian gonna need to get a bigger apothecary jar for soon.
All I want is a full Moana Loa too! 😭 RIP to the baby you graciously sent me. 🙏🏻
lmaoooo RIP 🪦
You put me on silver sword and the cebu blue 😊 they are now my favorite plants.
I LOVE the begonia you chose. Reminds me of my Cissus Amazonica😍. I have no begonias I may need to find that one!
I love maranta very much. The freydek is one I wish I could find around my area it’s one I want so bad.
All amazing choices!! I'll proudly join the maranta fan club, they're so under-appreciated! The silver band is especially gorgeous but for years I haven't been able to find it in Canada, at least not in Toronto. Hopefully they become more accessible for us soon!
Right!! I have NEVER seen one for sale in Canada! I don't even think I really know people in Canada who have one? So elusive. I hope so too!
maybe air layer the Monstera albo before chopping to minimise risk of losing some nodes? 💚
Good afternoon lady 👋 I love your mother of plants tee and do you know if it's okay to glue spag to a bamboo pole? I think the syngonium erythophyllum is so underrated. I completely understand not being able to pick one philodendron, they are all so beautiful in different ways.
