the fact that a i knew you had every single one of those plants speaks to how much i’ve watched this channel over the years! thanks for making my days greener since the beginning of the pandemic, love your content 💚
When you are confused if you like a plant trailing or climbing, try to let some vines climb on a moss pole and some trailing. I have done this method with a cebu blue pothos and it looks impressive, such a wild more natural look. So you have one pot with two different looking plants
I told my husband today I wasn’t going to buy anymore plants and he said “can I have that in writing” so when I saw you have the string of turtles, hoya Serpens, Peperomia Hope I thought oh I want one of each of them. Keep us updated on these plants, so I can see how you get on with each of them. Thanks for sharing this video.
i would love to see like a before/after of plants over the years or however amount of time. like you should footage of what the plant used to look like and how it looks now :)
you are literally my plant mom. thank you for your videos i’ve recently been struggling with my mental health and i went out and added so many plants to my collection and got back in my groove thank you!
I think the burn marks on your Kerii outer variegated is damage from flat mites. It looks like brown "scabby" material and it doesn't come off (I tried lol). Mites would also explain the wonky leaf shapes. I know you treated with sulfur, so it could be old damage from before the treatment. You may want to give it a quick glance with the microscope.
I very seldom comment, but I want you to know how much I love your channel. I am so inspired by you & have learned a lot from you. I just want you to know you are my favorite you tuber.
Recommendation for your string of turtles: cut off all the blooms and keep it super fertilized and watered! I used to treat mine like a succulent and it would do nothing for me… then I started watering more, to the point where I basically never let the top dry out completely. It worked WONDERS! Give that a try if you are brave 😂 you will be rewarded! :)
I got a siltepecana recently with a bushy look, lots of plants in one pot and it looks good starting to trail. I did however put a small pole in the pot to try ang grow some of the vines upwards, so it’s going to be a mix of trailing and vining
I actually knew that you had most of them but didn't know that you had the hoya kerrii (until I noticed it on a video recently and since you got it early in your plant journey, that's probably why I didn't know because I didn't find your channel at the very beginning...but watch it religiously now, lol). I also didn't know that you have a string of turtles...I love mine and they really are so cute...mine is finally trailing but I do want to fill it in more. I definitely agree with you that the string ofs need to be watered more often than people usually say...otherwise the roots just dry up on mine. I knew that you have the fern leaf cactus...I loooove jungle cactus as well and one of my wishlist plants is a queen of the night! They're so beautiful and have strappy leaves...and to be able to get one and get it to bloom...ugh...planty goals 😍🥰 Oh, and I think that the siltepecana would look so cute trailing...and since you have so many plants on poles already, let that one trail 😊
Variegated wayetii is the Hoya I’ve killed the most haha (I’m on #4). I grow 70 different Hoyas, lots of commercially rare ones growing & thriving, and that variegated wayetii used to be my toughest plant! I will say, they like to be far drier than my other Hoyas. I have mine in mostly coco chunks, and I still water it like my others. HOWEVER, now that I’ve figured out the trick, she grows like crazy! I’d say similar growth to the green version, if it gets enough light. I highly recommend giving it a try, if you have some space under a grow light for it.
My hoya kerrii variegated used to be my slowest too! It’s been growing very steadily for several months. In my experience, it took off when I put it in my ikea cabinet with two of the higher strength barrina lights. Mine is grown in coco coir chunks and I water the same as my other Hoyas. Hope this helps! Huge fan of your channel. Your channel is part of the inspiration pushing me towards starting my own channel soon. Thank you for sharing as always!
I smiled at the lil apparition at 2:19! I went around watering this morning and am so hopeful for the beginnings of Spring growth I'm seeing! It's getting lighter here in the UK, though not warmer 😅
for the monstera syltepicana I like the idea of propagating and making a fuller pot but not so sure about making them trail… I feel like they grow pretty straight up for that
Your Siltepecana looks so beautiful! It grows perfectly one leaf after another. I think I would do it like you said- chop and propagate and then make a fuller plant.
My siltepecana is just sort of propped on a bamboo pole at the moment.. I got it and my siltepecana el salvadore at the same time,, and the el is growing MUCH faster,, on fact I just put it on a moss pole.. I think you would really love the silvery-ness of the el, it is soo pretty
Hey Fern, a really nice show n tell today. I just bought myself a string of pearls as well as a siltepecana so this video resonated heaps with me. We're moving into autumn in Sydney, although it's stinking hot still, averaging between 28 and 32 degrees Celcius (last Monday reached 43...whaaaaaat!?!?!) Anyhoo, I found them at Bunnings (Australia's favourite hardware/big box kinda store) and made it my last purchase for the end of the growing season (technically😆) Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these and hopefully they'll keep thriving for you
So with the Hoya Kerrii I struggled big time with mine. I talked to some friends who grow them and told me to grow that one in lower light than you’d typically grow your Hoyas. It was crazy but when I moved mine to medium light it grew faster 🤷🏻♀️💚
keep pulling the blooms off of the string of turtles! i notice mine doesn't push out new leaves when it's flowering, I also try to water it RIGHT before it completely dries out to keep the new growth big and plump
I have a regular kerrii and it's insanely slow growing... the wayetii variegata grows super fast for me, the vines are decently long (40-50cm) and the new leaves come in all purple, it's lovely 😍 would def recommend! 😊
Love this idea for a video.. because we definitely have plants that are surprising us with growth! And others that might be adjusting, struggling, rehabbing, etc.. but are no less loved
Somehow i scored a huge basket of fern leaf cactus at a Home Depot, well i hung it outside on a covered porch and that thing went crazy! I had to sell it i had nowhere to put it over winter. I miss it everyday.
Put your string of turtles directly under a grow light. Mine had almost died after being taken off the window for winter. I just put it like a month ago, under a grow light. Now it’s over the edge with enough strings to cover the entire perimeter of the pot. The top is covered with the biggest turtles over ever had. The grow light really helped immensely
I loved this video!!! I have almost all of these and they are my favorites. It was so fun to see that I finally have some plants that you have! I’ve had my ups and downs with the String of Turtles too. I want a big basket full. I bought a 6” pot of it and it went downhill so fast. I separated it and have a lot in terrariums. They love the humidity so much. I just took a couple little pots out and am hoping that they can survive in the “open air” of my plant room. Thank you for featuring all these today. It’s so nice to hear your take on these. I’m now going to add that little Hoya on my wish list. I love little leaves 😂😍!!!
I'm sure you are, but try slowly acclimating them. Just an hour or so and gradually up time. If they go straight from humid peak conditions to regular house it'll suffer a good bit.
@@prismatica8416 thank you! I did take the lid off of the big glass jar terrarium I had them in and kept it like that for a week or so. So hopefully 🤞🏼 it won’t be too much of a shock. Only time will tell. 😊
The siltepicana doesn’t really size up, so may aswel let it trail.. if you want one climbing get the “el salvador” type as these get bigger as they climb hth ✌️
Yeah that's kind of what I'm thinking! I don't really care about it sizing up, I think it would just be nice as a full pot. I've got a bunch of other plants to size up anyways hahah.
Your kerrii puts out odd shaped, brown edged leaves like mine. The difference is that mine has 13 leaves but is only 5 inches high. I actually like the compactness.
I love my wayettiii and I cannot wait for mine to get as full as yours! I got my cuttings initially in a swap with a friend. She wanted SOH and I wanted to try a hoya! I would love a variegated one at some point just because it is so beautiful. It's fun to have fast growing plants, but it's nice having slower growing ones too because my apartment is so tiny so it's nice to not feel overgrown.
I looooovvee my monstera siltepecana right now my mother plant is trailing and I'm propagating another piece to climb and i was going to decide white version I like better. It's tempting because their mature leaves are so pretty when climbing but I also love how it looks trailing 😂
Personally, I’m a huge fan of putting plants that like to climb on poles. The leaves get so much bigger, and it’s just so good for the plants. Personally I would put the siltanapeca on a pole, but it definitely would look SO cute trailing. Do whatever makes you happiest :)
hope this helps, but a lot of people in the carnivorous plant community place string of turtles in terrariums with their nepenthes or other plants that require higher levels of humidity and more watering, currently I have mine in a terrarium that is self water (so it gets sprinkled with water 2 x a day) and it has started to grow like crazy. it's constantly blooming and spreading everywhere
The only 2 I didn’t know you had was the Serpens and the kaimuki. I totally understand your struggles with the string of turtles as I’m dealing with the exact same situation. It’s taken a long time to rehab and make it grow well but now I’m getting nice little dark leaves finally. And for the siltepecana, I have mine staked but I also love the idea of having it trailing so I may switch to that at some point. But you are right, the siltepecana is totally an overlooked plant! And your cactus is really starting to fill out so it must love the mother forest!
