This is exactly what I would want / need in the future. So you have a powerful game set up at home and connect it to a monitor and also a portable laptop which looks classy. Great!
yea because you could have a light laptop that's good for outdoor use like work and then you'd have a power station indoors for gaming and editing so it's pretty useful for students and people who work at offices
For me this looks amazing for some of our design engineers. We often don't need GPU power. But we do need multi-core performance. So several of these laptops and one or two of the GPUs would be perfect.
They have announced the laptop can be purchased without the external GPU, so at 1200 dollars for the laptop alone, I'm gonna add another "yeah" to that statement 👌😆
Apart from the price, I feel like this is the perfect product for me. I'm disabled, I can't sit at a desk very long and I can't lift a heavy desktop replacement laptop. This I could move around on my own, I could have the eGPU on a laptop table and I could go from UA-cam on the couch to gaming in bed without an issue. I love this thing.

I loved the whole egpu trend that happened a couple years back and to see this is amazing for people like me who isn't really at a stationary place a whole lot I can't wait to see the support and the further iterations of this.
I personally love this product. I’m a laptop gamer and the appeal of being able to buy a new external GPU rather than a new laptop every couple of years is appealing. However, for me the ssd is what lets it down. Only coming with 1TB of storage and being difficult to replace makes this product something that is not viable sadly. Game files are too big nowadays to have such limited storage options. I am pleased to see that many of Asus’s new laptops are coming with the option of a 2TB ssd this year though which means that I may well purchase something from their new line.
I feel like it would be the perfect product for me, the fact that the eGPU has all the ports included and charges the device, combined with the pen support for the touchscreen makes it really versatile: you can have a 2 monitor setup at home, use the laptop screen as imput for drawing, then on the go have an all-in-one. Its sad it is so expensive.
this could be the perfect setup for an engineering student at a dorm who needs something powerful for software and simulations, touch screen for notes/drawings, and would like to game in their off time
*I am, for the first time in the last 8 years I've been following consumer tech, beyond excited by a new Laptop formfactor, more than any previous Thunderbolt eGPU or 3 screen concept, MaxQ and so on !!!* I can legitimately see a future where all the GPUs come out of the laptop to become external docks like this, the benefits are numerous: from improved battery life when u detach the graphics, lighter weight and smaller size of the laptop, ability to bring a lighter USB C charger when on the go, or bring your big charger that's also a USB dock and a 3080M !!! Remember that top spec gaming laptops already come with bulky almost 2lb bricks as chargers... This is a 3080M in a 2.2lb power brick!!! Technology gets cheaper over time so I don't get the sentiment from the comments that this ONE OF A KIND, first gen product is too expensive... It includes a 3080 in it, that alone is a 1300$ product right now, if u can find it at all... I know its not a full desktop 3080 but more like a 10% higher core count and 20% lower clocked 3070, but come on! IT HAS 16GBs of VRAM! U don't get that much in the desktop 3080! Needless to say, I hope this thing catches on and becomes an industry wide trend, with mass adoption of actually good and portable eGPU docks that use x8 PCIe 3.0 (or even better PCIe 4.0 connections, so that the bandwidth limits of previous eGPUs is eliminated) across many different brands and products! It's incredible what Asus engineers have done here, they are pushing the industry forward and I am amazed that some of the comments don't see it this way but are focusing on the price!
The price to performance is reallly bad for this id get a g15 rtx 3080 16gb for a cheaper price amd btw it isn’t that expensive if you live here in canada.

I have it, very pleased with it. This is sort of my dream of around 6 years ago come true. Back then I envisioned a laptop I could carry around for medium workload, tablet for browsing/videos on the longer go, and a desktop PC with some oomph to be the main workhorse on my main desk. My previous gaming laptop was a heavy box, and never got a tablet, as usually phone was close enough for the on the go browsing, and even watching some movies on the plane.
I was honestly really considering getting this, then i heard the pricing. My guess is that next year many more companies will hop on this trend so they will definately become cheaper.

That's a good approach to the external GPU. Definitely a viable option to always have a mobile laptop and a choice of mobile gaming laptop and with GPU in a separate casing which is great from thermal perspective. Would be nice to see this progress and close the gap between desktop GPU version. Most of the time people play games at home so they could take the laptop with without the external GPU and in less often scenarios there is still the comfortable option to take it with you, a laptop backpack is definitely enough to put it in. Also if the connection standard is kept and the GPUs pool will expand with new GPUs being released, that can easily replace a desktop for someone who wants the ability to play games without resigning from mobility. In a perfect world I would see this as a standard for any laptop using some standard interface which would be fast enough for GPU. Promising but with Nvidia closing the gap more and more between their desktop vs mobile GPUs, there is a chance that won't be needed much longer. 3070 Super looks SUPER in comparison to mobile 2080. The only thing left to do is for producers to make a real difference regarding cooling systems. They are getting better but are still far from what's needed atm.

@@Fighter3005 Ngl, I'm a full-time student and just built a new desktop gaming PC with a 5900X and an RTX 3080. I know that $3200 is a lot for a lot of people but depending on where you are in the world it really isn't that much. Although I wouldn't be spending $3200 on this laptop, I'd much rather get a laptop with a built-in RTX 3080 and 5900HX. Although currently for my laptop I'm using a Gigabyte Aero 15X with a GTX 1070. It makes sense for me and the reason to that is because I attend university, I also game a lot, and I travel back home for about 2 months at least once a year, and I’d like to be able to game comfortably wherever I go
I think you put it perfectly - this setup is made specifically for a certain person - so happens I am totally that person! - It works as a powerful notebook when I'm on the go - Plugged in the CPU should crush design workflows like Illustrator and InDesign - Jacked into the XG mobile its got gaming/game dev strength - In stand its a drawing tablet for photoshop with any MPP pen - Flat down its a tablet for casual surfing! I'm really excited to get my hands on this setup when more options are available.
Someone like me, who is always on the go, this product is just what I was looking. Although it's still very expensive, it definitely opened a door for more companies to do the same and therefore creating more variety in terms of specs and pricing.
This is the kind of innovation and competition I love to see because it pushes the tech forward. AMD have done a great job of waking up Intel. I'm excited to see how Intel is responding from pressure from AMD, Arm, Apple and Microsoft. I love Thunderbolt but Intel need the support of more than just Apple, they need AMD as well. Thunderbolt should switch to PCIe 6.0 to support eGPUs better.
At this point these laptops just need to be straight up presented to anyone who's just getting into tech right out of High School. Super exciting time for them. As for me, 2021 is too sad, too late.

His intro has so much bass my sub woofer shook my house 😂

Dave always makes me smile somehow whenever I watch his videos, love this guy (no homo).
I always liked your adidas track upper!!!.....it suits u! 😌
It makes sense for me and the reason to that is because I attend university, I also game a lot, and I travel back home for about 2 months at least once a year, and I’d like to be able to game comfortably wherever I go
gotta love that sick bass in the intro
06:05 GTX 1650MQ on CyberPunk RT : "LOL PLZ" hahahahahahaha
"Let's talk about ports, cos i'ts connected"
2:05 Finally a laptop worthy of DJ-ing.
I think you put it perfectly - this setup is made specifically for a certain person - so happens I am totally that person!
- It works as a powerful notebook when I'm on the go
- Plugged in the CPU should crush design workflows like Illustrator and InDesign
- Jacked into the XG mobile its got gaming/game dev strength
- In stand its a drawing tablet for photoshop with any MPP pen
- Flat down its a tablet for casual surfing!
I'm really excited to get my hands on this setup when more options are available.
I like how honest you are
Someone like me, who is always on the go, this product is just what I was looking.
6:49 That was soo smooth, how did no one notice that!!!
Love your content Dave
At this point these laptops just need to be straight up presented to anyone who's just getting into tech right out of High School. Super exciting time for them. As for me, 2021 is too sad, too late.
6:01 "LOL PLZ"
I was hoping they would utter like in toyline, "each sold separately."
i'm pretty sure they are going to have the option of buying them separately. idk how the price or availability will be like tho
