Great job man! A tip: use neutral dish detergent or petroleum jelly to mount the rubbers instead of the grease. The grease attacks the rubber, it can cause a shortened service life (due to dryness of rubber).
These kind of videos makes me want to disassemble my whole car, paint all the rusty bits, replace 18 million parts and call it a day. In reality; I don't want to think about removing one of the subframes in the first place.. good job man :) like it.
Watching your restorations makes me wonder how do you keep everything organized so you are able to put it back together? I surely do need a few tips on that! Spotless work as always!
Looking at the subframe rebuild at the end of the restoration sequence, sitting on the workbench the pieces looked almost like works of art! Fascinating to watch. Thank you Restore It.
18:02 maybe for the next time you could put the wheel ring in to the oven or something heat and the wheel hub in to the fridge since you start the process. That way make a little easy the assembly. Grettings from México!!!
Love the work as always. Next time you need to press on something like the ABS rings, consider heating them in the oven first. Grease them up like you did, and they should slip right on without risking warping or cracking with a hammer (or a lot less force).
Love the content man! I’ve been wrenching on cars for myself and “customers” for 25 years. If I had half your attention to detail and skill when I was a young guy like you, I’d be a millionaire by now. Your future is bright my friend!
Nicely done with the ABS crown! others would have paid the "M" price without researching XD. Love the paint process on the highly exposed parts such as subframe and shocks. Keep it up man!
@@RestoreIt Kudos to you for owning up. Integrity... "... even when you THINK no one is watching." Awesome channel and vids. Y'all really should be wearing some kind of gloves with some of this stuff.... Howdy from Texas!
When you had the puller tool on the abs rings while at full tension, you could of tapped the top of the puller with a hammer with moderate force/not hard and the shockwaves would of budged the ring upwards, has worked for me many times
Hey there! I'm interested to hear your opinion on this. These series' are mainly about full resto, and bringing cars back to their former glory, and I'm loving every episode. You ever thought about perhaps putting your own spin on some of the cars you do? Like perhaps an OEM+ or a track oriented build?
Hey, first of all great job mate. Can u maybe make a video of how u keep track of ur screws and stuff? How do u manage all ur parts? Thanks for ur videos.
Amazing. Can't wait to see it done and running. For base primer have you considered a combo between etching primer and epoxy primer instead of high build primer on frame parts? In would say it is more important to have them protected than pretty. And as a small advice: never, i mean NEVER use regular grease/lubricants on rubber/poli bushes...or parts in a general way. It is well known that will attach and soften the material. Try to stick only to silicone base lubricants for these parts.
@@RestoreIt when i restored my car i did some research and the all 4 of them are quite different from what i understood. Etch primer uses a chemical mix to attack and attach the metal. Epoxy primer's super power is that it seals the metal very well preventing water and oxigen reaching the metal. Rust convertors are used to chemically remove rust from metal but has no power without proper protection (i tested that myself and it re-rusted in about a week High build primer is designed to fill an area that will be sanded in order to speed up the leveling process. Has none to little corosion protection. I might be wrong, but i see you dedicating and putting all that work, it would be a pity not to last forever (big words, i know) I really admire your work and patience
It is interesting to note the differences and similarities between the E30 & E36. I had to change the rear wheel bearings on my E36 and one of the driveshafts was an absolute pig of a job to get out as it was stuck on the hub. In the end, I used the Clarke CHT240 hub puller to get it out. I had to replace my front lower control arms as well. A popular mod on the E36 is to fit E30 lower control arms. I just replaced like for like along with the "lollipop" bushes. This car will be like new once it is done and will add value to an already very desirable M3.
I love your videos! They inspire me to work on my cars at a higher level. When I get the space, everything will be at your level. I do question the use of a regular painting system on suspension components and whether they will hold up. I've always been of the opinion that chassis components should be sprayed with epoxy or powder coated.
Thanks Daniel, I actually don't have any single stage paint believe it or not haha. I'm going to talk to my paint guy and see about getting some matt single stage stuff. Cheers :)
My man, you're using the same brand base and clear so don't hesitate to do this: Mix up your base as usual. Mix a little clear as usual. Mix them together thoroughly. Strain into your gun and shoot as single stage. This way you don't have a bunch of different paints kicking around your shop. By mixing the base and clear you are making your own single stage. You're gonna save a lot of time in the booth shooting underparts this way. Search "mixing base coat and clearcoat together" and lots of paint manufacturer how-to' pages will come up.
Great work! Looks awesome. 👍🏽. Question though: As you didn't plug any of the threaded holes.... are you going to be OK without needing to rethread them all? Maybe with paint you're still OK, but with (for instance) powdercoating I think you'd have to.
Very nice job. My compliments. I’m so relieved you didn’t use rattle can paint to paint these suspension members like so many guys that do UA-cam videos. Rattle can paint is inferior to what you used, much more proper for suspension pieces in wet environments.
Great job man! A tip: use neutral dish detergent or petroleum jelly to mount the rubbers instead of the grease. The grease attacks the rubber, it can cause a shortened service life (due to dryness of rubber).

Outstanding work on the sub frame refresh.
this is gonna go in a museum when its 101% finished

My pleasure!
Your videos are the best......really enjoy watching them
Thank you Stanley!
You don't need background music, really enjoy every single video you release (on all of your channels). Well done and keep up with great work
It must have been so nice to work on components that hadn't spent their entire life submerged in the equivalent of sea water. Fab job. Cheers.
So excited to do this to my E34!!! Gonna study that trailing arm bushing removal technique, real clever stuff guys!
Brilliant simplicity of suspension construction.
It's simply yet affective indeed!
Your influence made me get an e30 to work on
Oh too good Aidan! Enjoy it.

My E46 rear subframe looks about 40 years older than yours there before you even did any work on it. Damned UK. Great work as always
To press the silentblock into the suspension part use the dish soap. Rubber doesn't like contact with grease
Thanks for the info dude!
And when you use grease it is possible that the part move out again because the grease is not washing away like dish soap
Very good work there, RESTORE...IT!!
Thanks!!
God of restoration))
Too kind thanks man!
Another super video in the old restoreit style, keep them coming
Cheers Richard!

20:57 the E46 Steering rack isn't fitting because you have the front subframe upside down on the workbench 😉
holy fuck the lol's!
I noticed that as well. The garage couldn't have been very good because they also struggled to fit the rack upside down. :(
I like the music, it's subtle and well chosen.

You need a brass hammer if you’re going to hammer on ABS rings. A set of brass rods are also handy for automotive work. BTW, great job!
