Waterbury is ranked one of the worst places in the country to live. What this video fails to explain is that all of the cities listed as the worst places to live were once booming industrial areas with plenty of employment opportunities and little or no unemployment per capita..... BUT, then came the 1980’s wave of outsourcing American industry abroad to Mexico & Asia, and with the jobs went the quality of living because people had no livelihoods to provide for their families, so for the last 30 years there’s people who have fallen into the generational welfare trap in these areas. Without corporations to pay state taxes, the state raised personal property taxes (land, cars, etc) to some of the highest rates in the U.S. Also with rising unemployment, crime and drug abuse is also on the rise. The U.S. government didn’t take a stand to protect our jobs and industry. No jobs, and no insurance either in the state that was once the insurance capital of the world. So now you can plainly see the reason for the number of depressed areas. It’s sad but true....

Sooooo true, I don't even know where to begin with this shi**y state. Who can afford to live here but the corrupt politicians that continue to run it. And yes, while there's nothing we can do about it, the weather does suck here. You burn in the summer, and freeze to death in the winter. There are literally not much more than a couple weeks out of the year that are comfortable here. Myself, I'm ready to leave this toilet of a state as soon as possible.

I challenge you to live in south Texas near the Mexican border for as long as you've lived in CT and see if you're not missing the weather! Living that far down south in the summer feels like you're living in an oven and it stays that way for most of the year. It only starts getting cool in late November and doesn't last past February. Can you imagine living in constant humidity and heat????😵 it's horrible.

Litchfield is beautiful but good luck affording to live there if you're not loaded. This is the case with a lot of CT. All the nicest areas are out of reach for most people.

Wow I like visiting New London for their artsy vibe, comic shop, great food, and cool festivals....I’m shocked it’s higher than New Haven where the train has passed through and I was terrified.
I lived in New London for 8 years, from 2003 to 2011 and had a good time there.

CT isn't all bad. The Northwest and Northeast corners are beautiful. The coastline is really nice too. There is great food, especially Italian. New Haven has the best pizza in the world. The main problems are that the cost of living is ridiculous, the weather sucks most of the time and a lot of the people are stuck up. The traffic is horrendous, especially on 95 between Stamford and New Haven. It's a big rat race and everyone is more concerned with keeping up with the Joneses than actually enjoying life. This state sucks your money and soul away until you become a broke, empty shell just trudging along, trying to keep your head above water, praying that you'll be able retire with some semblance of dignity and not end up in the projects eating cat food until you die of mesothelioma.
You pretty much summed it up, LOL Stamford, CT was my home town. Born and raised. Had to leave because it got too over developed and too damn expensive! Stamford is the bedroom community to NYC. Great place, if you have tons of money!
No, it's all bad. Sure, it has nice parts, but you're never more than a few miles away from a sprawling urban/rural ghetto, and its impossible to go anywhere in the state (unless you're going from Madison to Durham or some shit like that) without crossing through one. So-called "nice places" don't have any of this to begin with. The shoreline is OK minus the druggies/wiggers/wannabe yuppie scum/etc.

Donald Johnson Bridgeport ranks higher than Waterbury by far. The only thing keeping New Haven from being higher than Waterbury is the fact that some of downtown isn't a total wreck(until you find all the homeless in the green).
This state is horribly managed. Any person not on drugs would consider living in another state simply because all the taxes you pay to live there are clearly not put to good order. Maybe even paying taxes to make the state worse. Virginia is much better IMO.

That’s just the cities. All the towns outside of them are very clean, and we have some of the best schools in the nation. You also have towns on the coastline near New York that are filled with snobby rich people

As someone who was born and raised in Waterbury, I've never felt more attacked in my life. But also. You're not wrong. Fun fact, we used to be the world's biggest producer of brass and brass products. And then the industry died. And instead of moving other things here, factories were left to rot and employment never recovered. Now, the factory buildings just sit and rot, and occasionally catch on fire.

I grew up in New Haven, CT when factory jobs were the way to make money and virtually anyone who wanted to owned a home and it was a wonderful place to live. In the late 1970’s factories closed down and/or moved and the economy tanked, so sad. Though I moved away in the 80’s, I still remember it for the great place it was.
Also, I don’t understand why people are mad Bridgeport isn’t #1. Bridgeport is not as awful as people say in CT say it is, they’ve just never been cuz they’re scared

Yeah unfortunately I moved out to Michigan back in 2011 and have only been back to visit family a few times since and it true has taken a nose dive since I left but hopefully in the next few years I can move back out there to a place of my own

I grew up in East Haddam. Now I live in Clinton. Both beautiful Connecticut towns. Looking back, I really appreciate the education I received from the East Haddam public school system.

I feel so depressed after watching this! Ct is my home state, but I don't live there anymore, and seeing this makes me feel glad I don't. Really sad that many parts of America look like a third world county. Poverty, hunger, crime and high unemployment. This just should not happen in a country that is as wealthy as the United States. :-(

I taught in Bridgeport 22 years ago and it was very bad. I just started teaching there again and the schools are not even recognizable, they're so much better. It's like being in a miracle every day. Lots of hard working nice kids and helpful parents.
What did they change?
Crime? Schools? Unemployment? I'd really love to see how Willimantic, Bridgeport, New Haven, New Britain, Hartford, Waterbury, and New London compare to every other city on the planet...betting they are in the top 10 or 5 percent for everything.

Windham=Willimantic close enough. Everyone of these cities has seen better days but there are some very good parts in each of these cities. There are numerous amazing Victorians in Windham, Meriden has many beautiful neighborhoods on the East side and on many of the hills on the West side, it doesn't get much more impressive than the Shuttle Meadow area of New Britain and it has a great hospital and American Art Museum and C.C.S.U and all the good neighborhoods in that general area, Hartford's Elizabeth Park might be the most beautiful park in the country, and the area around it is gorgeous. What happened? Politicians from both parties allowed big business to not only outsource millions of American jobs overseas to slave labor but also gave them tax breaks to do it. Now Trump is giving the businesses/super wealthy classless even more money to allow them to stow away loads of money in overseas banks and buy properties in places like Costa Rica, Dominican Republican, Nicaragua, etc. Most people who have 50 million want to have 80 million, it's a never ending cycle of greed that brought these cities down, not immigrants, or minorities, or laziness from the citizenry.
It’s sad that a lot of these towns are home to nearly all the state universities in Connecticut...good schools, you just shouldn’t leave the campus

Willimantic is sketchy but windham hospital located just outside willi is the best hospital I've ever been to hands down the service is fast bed side service is wonderful you're so well taken care of there. Amazing how that works.
