Leonard Simon Nimoy was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Dora (Spinner) and Max Nimoy, who owned a barbershop. His parents were Ukrainian Jewish immigrants. Raised in a tenement and acting in community theaters since age eight, Nimoy did not make his Hollywood debut until he was 20, with a bit part in Queen for a Day (1951) and another as a ballplayer in the perennial Rhubarb (1951). After two years in the United States Army, he was still getting small, often uncredited parts, like an Army telex operator in Them! (1954). His part as Narab, a Martian finally friendly to Earth, in the closing scene in the corny Republic serial Zombies of the Stratosphere (1952), somewhat foreshadowed the role which would make him a household name: Mr. Spock, the half-human/half-Vulcan science officer on Star Trek (1966) one of television's all-time most successful series. His performance won him three Emmy nominations and launched his career as a writer and director, notably of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), the story of a humpback whale rescue that proved the most successful of the Star Trek movies. Stage credits have included "Fiddler on the Roof", "Oliver", "Camelot" and "Equus". He has hosted the well-known television series In Search of... (1976) and Ancient Mysteries (1994), authored several volumes of poetry and guest-starred on two episodes of The Simpsons (1989). In the latter years of his career, he played Mustafa Mond in NBC's telling of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World (1998), voiced Sentinel Prime in the blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), and played Spock again in two new Star Trek films, Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).
In January 2014, Nimoy revealed publicly that he had been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a condition he attributed to a smoking addiction he had quit about 30 years earlier.[112] On February 19, 2015, having been in and out of hospitals for several months, Nimoy was taken to UCLA Medical Center for chest pains.
On February 25, 2015, Nimoy fell into a coma, and died of complications from COPD at his home in Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, on the morning of February 27, at the age of 83. Adam Nimoy said that as his father came closer to death, "he mellowed out. He made his family a priority and his career became secondary." A few days before his death, Nimoy shared some of his poetry on Twitter: "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP". It was his final tweet.
He was buried at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles on March 1, 2015. The service was attended by nearly 300 family members, friends, and former colleagues, including Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, and J. J. Abrams. Though William Shatner could not attend, he was represented by his daughters.

    Great video as always!
I’ve never suggested or made a request for a video; but when and if the timing is right would you consider doing a video for Twitch? Hard to swallow that he committed suicide……sometimes you just never know what people’s reality is like in their mind.

I will one day. The crazy thing is it’s less than a minute from Phil Hartman’s house that I just covered. I got coffee right across the street from that motel. I was looking right at it , and now this. So bizarre. My heart goes out to his family .

Excuse me / FU. COPD is no joke, And alot of people suffer from it ,
      before they die of it.
The only thing, I can hold Nimoy against , was he blamed "smoking cigarettes" ,30 years before. LOL His words were still typical of the " PC" propaganda campaigns that have been going a long time.
That idiot , when he was dying, blamed cigateettes , which he quit, 30 years before.LOL
I much rather like him, when he was doing " In Search Of"

I have been a life long Star Trek fan , it all started with that original show when I was maybe 3 or 4 years old. When Mr Nimoy died I decided to take my grief and turn it into something positive , as he was an artist , I felt the need to channel his passing into some kind of art , so i went home and pulled all my Star Trek stuff from storage , from the closet, from under the bed , from where ever I had put it ( some of this stuff I had not seen in 20 years or more. ) I stood looking at this pile of toys , magazines , cards , comic books , calendars , signed 8x10 I had collected over the years going to Star Trek conventions. ( and yes I had met Mr Nimoy multiple times over the years at those cons. ) I started cutting everything up, I made a pile of clipping , I started making a collage , after a few days it was done.. as a devotee of the Burning Man festival I knew exactly what I was going to do with it , I would take it to the temple burn at the 2015 Burning Man in Aug of that year , I hauled it out there , walked it out to temple early Monday morning , found a place for it , secured it to the temple wall , and there it sat till Sun night , then it burned as we all watched.. then in July of 2016 I see this trailer for a documentary called " For the Love of Spock " directed by Adam Nimoy, Leonard's son. I see my thing in the trailer burning , I had to stop and do a double take, I could not believe it , I was confused as to how it was there in the trailer , but very proud at the same time.. when the film came out I went to Beverly Hills to go see it , and was amazed at how it was presented in the film , it elevated the sentiment 100 fold that I was trying convaye by creating the collage in the first place .. originally it was just a thank you and a goodby to Mr Nimoy from me to him , in a creative positive way, and I had presented it to my fellow burners out at the burn, only thinking they would ever see it .. but now it has been immortalized and presented to the world , and hopefully anyone who sees the film , his family , friends, and fans feels they can say thank you and goodby as well.. .. .. ..

Awesome job, Scott. Nimoy is more interesting as the person he is than the character he portrayed. So many talents. Actor, singer, director, writer, poet. His intellect and care carry over into so many facets of life. More than Spock....that's what I'd call a biography about him. Folks should check out some of his albums, especially the 3rd and 4th. Very interesting and subtle cover songs from the early 70s. I think he wrote some of those himself as well. Anyway - thanx for this Nimoy tribute. Great job as always. Another great vlog Scott! I still haven't been to Hillside cemetery. I'll be down in LA in the new year so I'll have to go and pay my respects in person. I've heard that Eydie Gorme is also there too.

I loved Spock! As a kid back in the 60's I got to go to Universal to see the set. I was sooo blown away!

Thank you for doing this video. Leonard Nimoy, as Spock, is the reason I developed an interest in science, especially astronomy, and my love for Vincent Van Gogh. I cried so much when he passed. 😢

Nimoy was underrated as an actor. He was good. He played Spock to near perfection.
Good video as usual Scott. A nice tribute to Leonard Nimoy.
