Using a ruler is also useful in drawing this as well as taking measurements WITH the ruler if you’re drawing traditionally

Thanks for this video, Victor. I'm learning to paint digitally, but I always get caught up with details early on in the painting process and get too discouraged to continue. I always find myself using the circle brush and draw all of the textures by hand. You've shown me that using other brushes gets the job done much faster. I do have a question though; when you paint, do you use one continuous brush stroke or multiple strokes for textures?
Glad it was helpful! Right so textured brushes can help you get the look you want faster. But you have to be carefull not to overuse them, especially with multiple small strokes, because things get noisy and messy quite fast. At first try selecting only 5 textured brushes, and see how they work and slowly implement them in your painting. Pick something for rocks, trees maybe or grass and ground. And find the best uses, implement them to describe form or texture.

How long do you spend with thumbnails and the ideation process?
Hey, glad to hear it! Yes the ideation process is quite important, depending on the task at hand. Some ideas can be sketched in 5 to 10 minutes, and you may do like 3 or 4. I think I have a few videos whre I start by showing the BW thumbnail sketch first and then the painting. Another thing you can try when generating ideas, is to take a bunch of refs you like, then photobash them together in a composition. Then use it as your master reference when painting.
