Some people have this mindset that even giving you the opportunity to work is some form of charity and if you want to be paid more than they are willing to pay you are ungrateful and rude. Unfortunately sometimes these people run the company you work at lel.

Alright let's talk about 4:50. 13 hours a day, 5 days a week, watching 4 BOYS, one of which is an infant. With all these prerequisites, and the fact that it's one person for 4 kids, let's bump up the usual 15 dollars an hour to 20, to account for everything. Seems pretty reasonable. I mean, it's 1 hour for someone with experience versus a couple hundred hours for a beginner to start it. He's saying it's not work because he assumes writing music and playing bass is something the artist enjoys. He could honestly probably find someone willing to do it for free.
The thing is, projects don't become more or less "work" based on how much someone enjoys working on it. If an artist hates working on a project but still does his best and gets paid 100$ for it, that's fine. If another artist works on that project while having the greatest time of his life he should still get paid the promised 100$ even *if* everyone can tell that he really enjoyed doing it. Taking money for good creative work is more than just a personal decision in my opinion, it's also a statement showing that you believe in the quality of your creative work and feel confident enough to charge an adequate price for it. Also, when you pay someone, like the bass player in this video, for working on something for 1 hour, you're also paying for his front-up investment of time, money and hard work he had to put in in order to get to that level of skill in the first place! That's why highly trained people like doctors are well paid: Because they studied their asses off and worked hard to get there, not because they cut open bodies for half an hour every now and then. All that aside he really might've found someone to do it for free though simply because some people either have high skill and too much free time or because they don't value the little time they have high enough.

That babysitter one is messed up. I took a job babysitting 4 kids for the ENTIRE summer (about 8-10hrs a day, 5 days a week) and only got paid $150 a week, and that was me being generous. I should've asked for more, but I was 16 and it was for my former youth pastors.

It amazes me how little people respect artists. I've tried to learn how to draw before, and as someone who never got good at it, it is REALLY difficult and takes a lot of time and work, and yet people just assume they'll do whatever they want. I have a girlfriend who's an artist, and I almost never ask her to draw something for me, and on the rare occasion that I do, I always assure her that I'm willing to talk prices with her. She has done it for free (the perks of an artist girlfriend), but I always assure her I'm willing to pay if she wants. Artists are not your slaves. Respect them.

Alright let's talk about 4:50. 13 hours a day, 5 days a week, watching 4 BOYS, one of which is an infant. With all these prerequisites, and the fact that it's one person for 4 kids, let's bump up the usual 15 dollars an hour to 20, to account for everything. Seems pretty reasonable. So 20$/hour, 13 hours a day 5 days a week, that comes to $1300 a week. That's a $1225 difference. More importantly, I think, is the percentage attached to this. This woman is trying to pay 5.8% of an acceptable salary. Jeez

The thing is, projects don't become more or less "work" based on how much someone enjoys working on it.
If an artist hates working on a project but still does his best and gets paid 100$ for it, that's fine.
If another artist works on that project while having the greatest time of his life he should still get paid the promised 100$ even *if* everyone can tell that he really enjoyed doing it.
Taking money for good creative work is more than just a personal decision in my opinion, it's also a statement showing that you believe in the quality of your creative work and feel confident enough to charge an adequate price for it.
Also, when you pay someone, like the bass player in this video, for working on something for 1 hour, you're also paying for his front-up investment of time, money and hard work he had to put in in order to get to that level of skill in the first place!
That's why highly trained people like doctors are well paid: Because they studied their asses off and worked hard to get there, not because they cut open bodies for half an hour every now and then.
All that aside he really might've found someone to do it for free though simply because some people either have high skill and too much free time or because they don't value the little time they have high enough.

That babysitter one is messed up. I took a job babysitting 4 kids for the ENTIRE summer (about 8-10hrs a day, 5 days a week) and only got paid $150 a week, and that was me being generous. I should've asked for more, but I was 16 and it was for my former youth pastors.
The horse one had me laughing because no one in their right mind would give her a free horse. Go to auctions and buy them off the truck.
Even worse, it's a Friesian. Those aren't horses you can just find at auction. They average $25,000, definitely not something to just give away.

I've tried to learn how to draw before, and as someone who never got good at it, it is REALLY difficult and takes a lot of time and work, and yet people just assume they'll do whatever they want. I have a girlfriend who's an artist, and I almost never ask her to draw something for me, and on the rare occasion that I do, I always assure her that I'm willing to talk prices with her. She has done it for free (the perks of an artist girlfriend), but I always assure her I'm willing to pay if she wants.
Artists are not your slaves. Respect them.
