I'm 13 years old, and I recently got into collecting cds. I can see what people say about why physical copies is better than streaming platforms and you enjoy the music.
Being a child of the 80's in California, this brings me back collecting records from Record World, Tower Records, The Wherehouse, Music Plus, Musicland, Sam Goody, and Licorice Pizza. ...and Yes, we always took a chance on new music based on how the covers looked like lol.
I love buying Vinyls that have a little damage on the sleeve cause it shows me how they have been in the last couple of months or years. I love the old stuff!! Love Vinyl!
This guy is living proof of why vinyl and record stores are that much better than mp3 or CD. There's passion for the music and a real sense of community that you'd never get from downloading tracks off itunes or some shit.
I paid a visit to one of my fave old record stores recently and they have a large area full of CD and a much smaller vinyl area and there would have been about a dozen people around that vinyl like bees around a honey pot and not a single person anywhere near that CD section.Quite amazing I thought and seems to me that things have incredibly swung back around to what I thought might be gone oneday forever.Vinyl is just cool and great that it has come back as strong as it has !!
New generation needs tips on how to buy vinyl, been buying vinyl since the 70s myself...stopped for a while because they stopped making them, but been buying old albums. Back i. The day we used to sit and look at the covers, and we knew every song in every album....good ol days.
Was in Lübeck and found a record store. Found a pretty cool looking cover for a Polish Punk band named Stregesti. That's a chance I took. Do not regret it, and Stregesti is an awesome band
With record collecting, I think the biggest joy is finding bizarre old stuff in the $1 bin you've never heard of and taking it home to give it a try on your record player, not buying stuff you've already heard a hundred times.
Great info! I'm trying to build up my collection. I found the best way was when I joined TOVAG or The Original Vinyl Auction Group. I enhanced my collection greatly. I just scored a Diamond Dogs first press!
Ive just started collecting, and to be honest I didnt understand the appeal until I held my first vinyl in my hand. Its the feeling of holding the actual physical representation of the music. Almost as if you could reach in the air and pull out the sound waves. Its not like just a bunch of 0s and 1s like on a cd or mp3.
@JosephODonnellMusic I saw this video suggested next to one of yours! Then I recognized the guy and the store! It's in my area! I've been there a few times. Even with my low budget, I manage to find some good rarities I can't leave behind!
art work was a big feature of the 60's LP's.it drew me into groups I never knew about because of main stream blasie airplay.Savoy Brown was perhaps the best.I took a shot at "A Step Further"LP.it led to further Foghat and Mott The Hoople.Good study in English Blues.I'm now a Savoy Brown Completeist.
Someone gave me her collection she was gonna throw out,and after flipping through for about 30 seconds I found a copy of moody blue in good shape, the woodstock 69 soundtrack in great shape and other cool stuff. It kills me to think of what people are throwing away.
Vinyl will always remain a classic format, there's a reason why record labels CONTINUE to spend money producing new vinyl releases, it's definitely a better experience listening to vinyl than playing CD's or using an iPod
Nofx fan i see, One of my all time favorite bands, doing my right arm in a sleeve from the longest ep album art, its different and cool, Hell yeah great score. Though i wish some of the trendy bands would release actual hard copy cds if the vinyl is gonna be super limited, Mp3 is great, but when played thru a vintage stereo or even loudspeakers, the sound lacks bass and Boom.
People need to check out Recordland in Calgary Alberta, Canada. They've got over 200,000 original vinyl LPs stocked, spanning all genres...from the most obscure progressive, hard rock and psychedelic bands of the 60s/70s...Bull Angus, Leafhound, Goblin, Hard Meat, etc, to jazz/fusion, blues, and classical. You name it, they've got it, with another 1,000,000 LP's waiting in their massive storage area just waiting to be stocked. It's the closest I've ever seen to a vinyl version of Aladdin's Cave
Agreed! Stariway's a great song but yea give it a break! I haven't listened to the radio in years. There's no point. Especially classic rock stations, what a joke! They have SO MANY songs to that they could play through all the years and genres of music and choose to play stairway, hotel california, comfortably numb and so on over and over and over. It gets annoying! Support local college stations instead!
Alex Ward True. Even Pandora is guilty of this. I've heard Ramble On, Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, Just What I Needed, etc. so many times it's incorrigible. Yes, they are great songs but I don't need to hear i everyday of my life.
So f*cking true it actually pissed me off. There really is an endless number of interesting deep cuts they could go for but instead they play the same hits. Of which are Incredible songs often that the radio forces you to lose a feel for, they will kill your favorite song from you. Because if often if you love a song you dont want to hear it on repeat or else it wouldnt be special to you. But I realize that the general public isnt as indulged in music like we are often, they dont set aside time to hear music, so for them its all about the very best and catchiest. These people arent even influenced by music when they hear songs like the one you mentioned, people with less soul and value. I usually want to hear great music in the context of an album or at the very least, Right context in life whatsoever. Oftentimes Ill have my headphones in enjoying/discovering an album with a song I love simultaneously playing on the radio, drives me crazy. Dont ruin my listening experience by shoving music down my throat whether I like the music or not. Makes sense (even if stupid) why so many people began despising radio and any band that would be played on it through the years, ie: the punk movement.
i started out just like this guy...and i just want to say that Ronnie Dove is a great singer from the 60s but because of the British Invasion his name is rarely heard...despite having numerous Top 20 hits..i strongly suggest looking him up.
i have been collecting records since 1972 when i bought my 1st CONNIE FRANCIS LP 'CONNIE'S HITS' from NZ.now i have over 1000 items of her in my vast collection.rarities incl her 1st 5 singles from US. her AWARD WINNING MOTION PICTURE HITS stereo LP from AUSTRALIA...which is a great rarity,,as the master tapes are lost. i lent it to Bear Family in 1996 to master for the 2nd box set of Cd's 1960- April 1962.I also found the 1st LP from Italy[CONNIE FRANCIS to the Italian Fans] in the local flea market for 3 euros in mint condition[copies I've heard go for 100 euros].
Does anyone know what he says towards the end (2:45). "They go to ???? buy a box, keep the ones they like, and sell the rest" I want to know where I can buy such boxes of records.
Want to preserve LPs? Transfer them to VHS tape in the EP mode. Record only on standard tape so the tape won't get snarled. There is no audio dropout. You can get 6 hours. Caption them on the screen with a video camera. And you'd better scour the thrift stores for VHS decks. Look for JVC or Panasonic. I have three JVC pro decks that are in great shape. Run a cleaning tape through the heads once in a while. JVC still mfrs VHS decks, especially VHS/DVD combos. Bulletproof decks!
Lol, yeah. What I meant to say was that collecting records is a lot like collecting comic books because you're worried about the same type of things. It's just interesting to watch a video like this and see how it applies cross-hobbies.
Notice how the Blimp is always mentioned when it comes to talking about music? It does not matter if the comment is negative or positive because Led Zeppelin will always be on top and no band will ever come close to getting close to that peak. Well, maybe The Smiths will be remembered in the same kind of fame that started a few years after Zeppelin disbanded. Other than those two bands, no one will ever be better....Great vinyl store, loved the video.
Always find good cheapies, most ever payed for one was $18 and that was only 2-3 of them. Some not the greatest condition but have found a nice copy of Frampton comes alive (slightly warped but sounds real nice) and cheapo Kansas, dave edmunds what not (including a real nice japanese release of CCR's live in Europe for $1 appeared to only been played a few times.)
@PrimalHateGrind You got it. I will check them out. Hopefully I will be able to find something on them via eBay or my local alternative record store. Thanks, good making a connect with you.
Yea I own 45, and counting so there lol, just recently started collecting....people ask me why when you can buy a CD or download it? I laugh and say because I want to listen to quality not chopped compressed versions of my favorite music. Im 32 and wish I would have started back in my teens, but back then I didn't realize the quality I was missing when I was a child in the 80's. Music on vinyl is a hundred times better than digital....so sad more people dont understand or appreciate it :(
@anderzom - everybody takes a chance when they are buying it - even if it says mint - sometimes it shows up in a condition less than what it is listed as. every now and then it happens to me. but you can always email the buyer and negotiate to take it back, etc. if not - give them a bad rating. So - to avoid getting burned: check the seller's rating. only buy from sellers who A - have sold a lot of records & B-have a very high rating. like 98% - 100%. of people are happy with their purchase.
"Take a chance and buy a record because the cover looks interesting" I thought Lulu had an interesting cover... now it's the reason why I stream an album once before I pay for a physical copy.
"We've hear Stairway To Heaven enough. Please give us a break"
hahahhahaahahahahaha

Wow watch mojo used to be interesting
I love killing an afternoon at the good ole record store.
this man was spitting facts
Step 1. Buy a record.
Step 2. There is no step 2.
I love buying Vinyls that have a little damage on the sleeve cause it shows me how they have been in the last couple of months or years. I love the old stuff!! Love Vinyl!
ElFamoso Art they're not called "vinyls"
Kareem Garcia records
ElFamoso Art I love spinning my vinyls on my Crosley cruiser. So warmth
Buy yourself a decent stereo set up...Crosley ruins vinyl..
@@louis.gabriel I'm glad you understand my sarcasm

I spied D.R.I.'s Crossover on the shelf, great!
Same! haha
i totally agree with you. when i was a teenager i used to buy albums by bands i never heard of just because the cover looked cool.
Buy records by artists you enjoy listening to...done.
