- Опубліковано 12 жов 2022
- For this series I’ll be taking you with me through New York & New Jersey to various Music Stores & Record Shows. Sifting through CD’s, vinyl, and whatever else the stores have to offer. Then at the end I’ll un-bag the loot and discuss why I chose the ones I did. Come on…let’s go to the record store!

Hello Brendon!!! I'm glad to see that you didn't get into trouble with that confrontational guy. He clearly was looking to antagonize you. It's good to stand up, but be careful. You never know when the creep will bite. Unfortunately, stuff like that happens not just in NYC. Thanks, Rick
You really keep record stores alive! That's awesome. Thanks as always for sharing.
It’s my pleasure!
Thanks for including the wildlife on your adventures Brendon, always fun, lol.
Hey Brendon glad to see you are doing more video's in NYC. I miss you going through the city showing the viewers all of the NYC life, buildings, etc. Keep on doing what you do. Take care
Thank you Brendon, nice CD's and Vinyl 🙂
Best regards from South America.
A lot of great stuff, on a packed store. That depeche mode cd was great to see.👌👍
I love that latest Beast in Black album! Cyber punk / sci-fi soundtrack feel to it. Great to have on while you're playing video games too.
Very cool to see you visit all these local record stores. Hopefully it will inspire people to find and explore their local record stores and keep them alive. I always try to buy my music from my local records stores.
Thanks for this superb video Brendon. Good to see the NYC again and Academy Records. Glad you got that early pressing of Cult's Electric, I like the early pressings. I have not seen that Living Colour CD before, will look it up. I saw Living Colour UA-cam footage of a recent performance of Cult Of Personality and the band rocked like a beast. Forgot how good that song is!
Midge Ure also played guitar in Thin Lizzy in 1979-1980. Unfortunately, he is NOT featured on ANY Lizzy albums from that era. And Band Aid's iconic holiday classic "Do They Know It's Christmas?" is from 1984, and features mostly English, Scottish or Irish new wave and synth-pop artists on it, although Paul McCartney and David Bowie, though NOT featured on the best known version of the song, are featured on alternate takes of the song. It peaked at #15 on the BB Hot 100 in early 1985. Michael Jackson had no involvement with that song. He was featured on USA For Africa's "We Are The World," which in 1985 went to #1 in several countries, including the USA and UK. That's MJ's only collaboration with Bob Geldof.
👍
Was just there today. You know you should mentioned this store has a big focus on classical and jazz. It truly is a great little store with fair prices. Wonderful respite from the wildlife outside. For those that enjoy jazz, nearby Jazz Record Center is incredible. A classic ny store that is hidden away - not even at street level
…except this channel doesn’t cater to the Jazz and Classics market.
Nice video Brendan, including how to deal with challenging people. Saw one of my B-52s Cds. Good Stuff from 1992. Starts out with three catchy party songs, but the rest of the album is alternative rock. Just the three members, Fred ,Kate, and Keith and a few session musicians. Cindy Wilson took some time off to be with her two children. I have seen the B52s live and Greg Suran, lead guitar and Tracy Wormworth on bass are amazing.
Nice you found a Midge Ure album. Seen him live too. Another multi talented musician. That CD might be a UK release.
Wildlife indeed
Welcome to the jungle!!!
Beast in Black is an awesome band!! Love all their albums. Be careful!!
That Good Rats album is great and also Missing Persons...! Nice store👍🙂
That guy nearly kicked your ass but you were a brave man lol. Crazy that stuff like that just happend during your break from work. Good nothing happend. Nice video again.
No…he was all bluster and no muster…there was a lot more to that encounter than was video taped. Just a jerk being a bully, I like standing up to those idiots.
@@BrendonSnyder You are brave. You did a good job calming him down.
@@BrendonSnyder Well done.
I'm surprised by the amateur action. Only a non tourist engages the animals.
😎👌🏻 great looking store! The limited edition AC/DC with sticker pack looked interesting
Midge also played guitar 🎸 for Thin Lizzy! Extremely talented musician
Yes to all of the above!
Yes blu rays!!!!! I'm going there for sure.
I've never seen that Living Colour comp either. I'll have to look for it. And I recently picked up that Michael Hutchence solo album you showed. That was another I didn't know about (and INXS is one of my all-time favorite bands). It's pretty good. THX for sharing, Brendon!
You’re welcome Jared, glad you enjoyed it. The Living Colour comp is listed on Wikipedia but barely gives any info so not really clear. But it looks like it’s legit and perhaps came out very briefly and just flew under the radar.
We love when you do these record store videos Brendon! It feels like we're right there with you looking at stuff. That guy was sure rude to you. Were glad you're okay!
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying these experience videos and are able to live vicariously through them. Music stores are life!
Hey Brendon, “Do they know it’s Christmas” was the UK answer to “We are the World” featuring Michael Jackson. Do they know had Phil Collins on the Drums. Frida who’s album i saw(in your store run through) was produced by Phil Collins. I can definitely tell when Phil’s drumming. But great finds for you. I have tomorrow (this is Thursday I’m typing this ) I have the new Chili peppers album coming in. Later in October 2 weeks from tomorrow I’ll have the new a-ha Cd. Can not wait for that. I’ve been listening to “Unlimited Love” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers to get ready for the new release.
Really enjoyed the store and tour. Thanks
You’re welcome
Very good record store wish i had one like that.here
Cool video today, Brendon!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That first minute confirms why I dont go to the city much anymore. Such a shame how that place has become a dump. t least the music finds worked out!
Don’t let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch…not all of NYC is like that. Plus you can just as easily ignore those kind of people who quite frankly are in every city around the world.
I love how that guy got twisted bc u were filming the buildings. Lol. Ah NY. The sights, the sounds, the smells.
You said it!!
That's why, as a country boy, big cities scare me. No idea how to deal with such things! And Kim Carnes, worth exploring if I like that song from Flashdance?
Oh yeah! The ONE store that I went to when I visited NYC back in 2019. They definitely didn't have that much when I went there, I barely found 2 or 3 cd's, but I did find a bunch of Lp's (Bowie, Misfits,...) and also that Cromagnon Lp you went by in the used section (although I bought it new), what a great record well worth checking (so Psych!). Maybe next time... :-) Cheers!
Next time hit up BookOff…they have thousands of CDs….no shortage of stuff to go through!
@@BrendonSnyder I sure will! Next time (which might be next April), I might ask you for a list of record stores you recommend. I'd love to go to Sound Exchange, but that might be out of the way. Cheers.
What was the first guy barking about?
Didn’t like me “taking pictures”
How did you calm the guy down when he approached you. I’m surprised you didn’t have an OG of Electric by the cult 😊
nice stuff 😁👍
👍
Love Marc Ford. Got all his albums
Ahh…glad someone recognized him!
@@BrendonSnyder one of my favorite players. Ever since I heard Southern harmony
You should have picked up the Michael Hutchins solo CD its rare and expensive and the kiss monster CD it was pulled due to copyright issues with the monster energy drink it’s because of the O in Monster.
Good store. FMU Record Fair RIP was around the corner
Buy the Hendrix stuff he rocks!
…I already own the Hendrix stuff
the sound of jewel cases hitting each other sounds just right
Yes, I totally agree! Music to our ears!!
@@BrendonSnyder indeed thanks for sharing yet one more great record store
Midge Ure played with Thin Lizzy for a while too. Got to say the record shop whilst good is not a patch on Anthony’s place
Nothing compares to Sound Exchange!
Some of those lps and box sets looked pretty good. Large amount of stock in there.
Yes but it is different genres like Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical, etc. I wish it was all Rock!
Interesting, I was under the impression that there were no record stores in NYC anymore but I was wrong! However it seems they don’t have the cds organized by music genre, style or even alphabetically, it seems chaotic to search for anything this way!
Hey Brendan , what would you say are the top 5 record shops in NYC . I’m looking for the classics , e.g Blondie , The psychedelic furs , Bruce Springsteen , Neil young you know the others ….many appear on this vid
Luckily I’ve made hat exact video, see link ua-cam.com/video/t06ukyzAAw4/v-deo.htmlsi=BNMh0r_9gQeqJujC
@@BrendonSnyder thanks you
I just watched it . They're all awesome
🙌 Thanks for making them
I'm gonna watch all the deeper vids now
I would like to visit that store. I have a list of bands and singers that I would like to have on cd. I'm sure I would find what im looking for there.
Hey Brandon, nice to hear from you however,I want to recommend you something the next time you go back to the record store I was shocked to hear that you're not a huge fan of the BLUES,WHY?? I know it's not your thing but it won't hurt to at least listen to it every once in a while coming from a man like yourself who only listens to rock(newmay wave, punk, metal, hard and my personal favorite blues rock)may I recommend howlin Wolf(listen to that man's voice)and also muddy waters he recorded a song called rolling stone(that's where mick jagger and Keith Richards got the inspiration from to call themselves that) or get any blues compilation of any volume remember, the great MUDDY WATERS once said "the blues had a baby and they named it ROCK AND ROLL!!
I don’t only listen to rock but I also don’t listen to things that don’t move me. If it moves me then I listen. I have far too much going on to simply listen just became I should. If it’s not for me, it’s not for me. Everyone should enjoy what they like and leave it at that. 👍
Ah new york i would have went straight to jail. Oh well good show brenden
Well halestorm is still my favorite rock album of the year so far. Song for song it's the best to me.i would have thought Ozzy or def leppard.after listening to the def Leppard. I don't think it will make my top twenty. Don't get me wrong I like it. Just a little to familiar. But at their age understandable
Moshe ure did a brief stint in thin Lizzy when Gary Moore left during a tour .but I have to say I prefer ultravox with John Foxx
When you start buy cds and vinlys?
If you ever stop buying music Brendon half of your record stores would shut down 😜
Quite possibly! 😂😂😂😂
I was brutally beaten a few years ago by an angry man like the one who was going off at you. That gave me the chills. It brought back the horrible memory for me. I had serious head injuries. I have scarring on my face and head. So I don't look good because of my disfigurement. Never say anything, when something happens like that just keep walking on. I still live with what happened to me, it traumatized me. But I have the good lord in my life now, and I have found peace.
In Australia it’s not illegal to film in public and I assume the states if you are just filming the surroundings and tourists do it but that guy was on camera for only a second but obviously a crazy man we have plenty of them down under as well
It’s not illegal here either. The guy was just being a jerk…. Obviously looking for trouble. But his bark was worse than his bite.
I have that Beast in Black CD it's really good
I knew someone would know who they are!
@@BrendonSnyder Beast in Black is awesome just as Battle Beast.
Is there any other used cd stores in the city besides this place book off i?
See link to a video I made called My Favorite NYC Record Stores ua-cam.com/video/t06ukyzAAw4/v-deo.htmlsi=cvCpVzkfDiq7Z1d_
wow…how long of a lunch break do you get?!
How long do you think that took? Answer…no very long
Is Sounds still there on 8st ST Mark's place
Sounds has been closed for a long time.
No music stores on St Marks at all these days…at least not when I was last there.
now we know why you moved out of NYC.
Yeah that kind of chaos became too much. But in the end of the day, you can see I still don’t let it bother me.
yep the guy jumping off the wall is why i will not go to NYC, death is just around the corner there. sad.
OMG…it’s one guy, and you can always walk away. Geez
🇧🇷
👋
Midge Ure is pronounced "your"
Thanks!
Michael Jackson was NOT in Band Aid, nor did he participate in "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
Ahh…it was We Are The World. Those charity supergroup singles all run together for me.
@@BrendonSnyder Exactly. Personally, I didn't like the US attempt at a charity song; the Brits had the original idea and made that fantastic song.
That first dude looked a bit intimidating
IMO, you can’t let guys like that try to bully you. They’re looking for conflict. As you could hear/see…he created the issue. But I found it best to just to laugh it off. They’re trying to get you angry and if you don’t get angry they don’t know what to do. 😂😂😂
Oofta never interact ith the NPC's
bark is worse than his bite - it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for
Not intimidating to a bullet.
