  • A clinical psychologist hired by Johnny Depp's legal team testified that her evaluation of the actor's ex-wife Amber Heard showed she had two personality disorders: borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder. Dr. Shannon Curry said test results on Heard showed a number of characteristics including tending to have inner hostility & rage, externalization of blame and can often be very judgmental of others while remaining self-righteous. Heard has claimed she was the victim of domestic violence and is being sued by Depp for making those allegations in an op-ed in the Washington Post.

The ply book of hoe th the mental illness works now the jury can think about the prior testimony the rest of the trial and now the dots connect and act like to missing context is Maki g the answer clear. If she testifies now it's gonna be now exposed and clear wht the manipulation and overall abusive behavior is what it looks like and her start to fight or flight as she won't be able to control the perception of her barrative thar justifies her or shows she had done nothing wrong. Prediction if she fumbles and runs into trouble it won't be long before the look what you made me do talk starts her lawyers did it immediately om their questioning asking what damage the abus causes and whT where the trauma and behavioral effect are. @jcorb Please be more specific. Dr. Curry was excellent with providing the data she used to maker her inferences, especially when compared to Dr. Spiegel, who was clownishly arrogant and unprofessional given that he provided a diagnosis of Depp without providing actual data for that diagnosis, or by providing clearly inappropriate justifications for his conclusions. In much of Curry's testimony she was simply explaining what is scientifically known about the measures she used and what is scientifically and historically known about the conditions, e.g. Borderline Personality Disorder and Histrionic Personality Disorder, that were indicated by Amber's MMPI results and were furthermore corroborated by Curry's review of court records. Much of what Curry described confirmed what we have been watching unfold during Heard's performances in the trial and what we have seen in court evidence and many others' testimony. That is why the majority of people who are watching the trial respect Curry's testimony. So if you have any actual examples or evidence of your assertion now would be the time to pony up.

It makes sense to me now why Amber looks directly to the jury when she's talking, because when Dr. Curry was explaining her diagnosis to the jury she was looking at them and actually engaging with them where as Amber is mimicking Dr. Curry and attempting to do the same. The moment I heard about Amber Heard I knew she has BPD. I have it and the things she does is highly relatable. People want to sugar coat it and say we arent actually trying to hurt people- stop the bull. If you hurt our feelings we will treat you as if you are our worst enemy. Soothe our feelings and we then idolize you. I loved all my exes but treated them terribly when they upset me and then denied it and try to justify my actions. Its until now where I actually got the help I need and realize when I am acting irrationally and what I can do to stop it and calm down.

As a BPD, perhaps the sadest part is that often we don't fake our dramatic distress. We actually feel that distressed or maybe feel like we're feeling that distressed. It is too nuanced to be understood well. The only way out is not just through intervention but self awareness. To know that we are projecting our past trauma AND recognizing that it should not be an excuse to cause trauma to those around us. That's why a combination of BPD and NPD is probably the hardest to cure, cause they'll never be willing to acknowledge their wrongs.

Same here. I have worked with many couples where the female is the main abuser. It is so unfortunate that such women often have nowhere to obtain help because when they tell a female therapist what they are doing, the therapist often minimises, excuses or justifies the woman's behaviour and shifts the blame to the man, and so the woman receives no help and sometime even receives reinforcement of her condition. And men are mostly disbelieved. I find my own colleagues and the wider counselling industry culture to be disappointing. We need to wake up to the fact that men and women are pretty close to equal in abusing each other, and in many if not most cases -- not all cases -- the abusive relationship is a mutual dynamic which both are contributing to in some way, actively or passively, or both.

I have BPD and I'm a doctor. It has really affected my career and my relationships. I tend to get angry over the smallest of things. I can love a person one moment and hate them the next when they've done or said something that doesn't sit well with me. I internalised my anger a lot in the past. Taking it out on myself with self-harming and substance use (just weed and alcohol). I get irritable and frustrated very easily. One moment I'm happy and the next I feel like the whole world is caving in on me and I cry like a baby. I go from 0 to a 100 within minutes. I'm going through therapy but sometimes I feel like it doesn't help, and I think about offing myself on a daily basis. Sometimes I just impulsively OD when I'm angry. I've done that a bunch of times. Not that I want to die, but I just want this constant pain and emptiness to end. It's a really cruel disease. I also have depression, PTSD, epilepsy and anxiety. When I get sick I tend to blame myself a lot. I'm ruining my relationship with a man who loves me dearly. I take out my anger on him, then I get terrified when I think he's going to leave me. It's really tough, and this is what I have to deal with on a day to day basis. Every single day comes with its own struggles.
Idk why I just wrote all of this here, I guess I'm just struggling rn and needed a place to vent.

      @rebecca_stone Рік тому +2

It sounds like you're right in the struggle and it's so good that you're doing therapy and have a loving partner, that's two massive things that can help get to the other side of BPD. Agree that therapy when you're feeling desperately distressed every day like this can feel way too slow (and it's hard to find the right fit, it's always possible that your therapist might not be right for you). I'm writing as someone whose BPD diagnosis was missed until age 39, and five years later I'm fully recovered. I nearly lost my life to this disorder more than once. Getting well again is about more than the conventional treatments, there's a lot of self-driven reflective work you can do on your own, and you sound self-aware enough to be able to do it. I don't know if you're in a DBT group but that is a proven treatment to help manage symptoms. But you want to go beyond managing symptoms and aim for complete recovery. Brian Barnett's podcast The Last Symptom is hard-hitting but is all about full recovery. His communication style may not be for everyone (including the people commenting on here who seem to enjoy focusing on the more "Hollywood" portrayal of BPD), but there are insights in there that sparked a lot of thought for me and most definitely helped me move past BPD. I wish you well.

@@tonyploma2330 to politicize this is an absolute ignorant/arrogant/blind disrespect about what mental health entails.
Just the fact that you "othered" and put the "left" into a mental health illness category, actually says a lot more about you, than the left at all.
It shows your mind is trapped in simplistic cognitive functions...such as confirmation bias, cognitive distortions, limiting beliefs. To demonize a side that you don't understand, and feel threatened by, shows low emotional intelligence. Interestingly, in most mental conditions...those people have very low emotional intelligence.
While pointing fingers, looking outside yourself, for the causes of all ills...maybe take a look at your own deep rooted wounding and beliefs.
Look into how fundamental attribution error plays a role in your ability to excuse yourself, give yourself grace...while vilifying others for their behaviors. Try on introspection and metacognition for size.
People on the extreme left AND right, are more likely to have mental issues. Why? Because of what causes extremism...causes more blindness to more, the farther either side one goes. The more moderate, open, types, are actually generally the most mentally well.

@@itsjustmaddisen Thank you, however it wasn’t always like this. I can admit that, initially, growing up I was much like Amber. I was very angry, I was verbally and emotionally abusive, I blamed everyone, accepted no responsibility, and pushed away people who genuinely loved and cared for me but couldn’t keep setting themselves on fire to keep me warm. It took me awhile to realize that I was the problem, and even longer to realize that it didn’t have to be that way. While yes we need more awareness about mental and emotional health, we also can’t enable people that they can do whatever and use their mental disorder as a crutch to mistreat others because it is a viscous cycle that will only repeat itself until we hold ourselves accountable for our behavior. Again, thank you for the kind words and have a wonderful day, I appreciate you reading and taking the time to leave a kind comment.

Elizabeth I also have BPD, and was exactly like you described. I couldn't have said these words better myself.
I tell everyone that I constantly have to keep myself in check, because if I don't I can "slip up" and my old self will emerge. It's very difficult and hard to deal with especially with all the sigmatism around BPD. it is awful not only for those who have been on the"wrath side" of our disorder but also for us.
Most my life it felt like I was in this deep fog with no clarity and scared, alone, etc. But then once I learned that I'm not mY BPD, can function normally and have normal emotions, and healthy boundaries it's like I woke up from that fog. It's like one day everything cleared up and I seen the world in a new light, like I had seen the sun for the first time.

I am a single father who lived every word and detail of a borderline partner with a child involved..... My son's mother never could accept the reality that she had anything wrong or any problem because she was just that good at hiding it to others. It is truly amazing that this testimony depicts even the ability to hide it so well. For the first 4 years of my son's life I endured every detail of the rage and behavior described here. I documented the behavior for almost 2 years only to have the court system mediator try to say that I also was mentally ill also. The court system was so broken that she had communicated with the social worker who was assigned to us prior to any meetings and filled her head with lies about me (including false accusations of sexual abuse to my own son) when they were not even supposed to be communicating. It was a literally an art form of how well she maintained looking like she was a victim.
Any abuse I took from her behavior was all in my own home until I could finally evict her(with one month notice) from it, this made her go ballistic, damaging my car and throwing food at me. I went through four different attorneys before finally ending up with two women that were like angels sent from heaven. One of them specialized in women with borderline personality disorder (Irene renillo) in the other one was a judge (Denise rini). They immediately understood the severity of the situation and acted faster than anyone else I had gone to. Before even getting in front of a judge they were able to get me residential custody of my son. Want to see a grown man cry? I did that day knowing it was finally over.
Even listening to this testimony I was still educated more on border lines.even though surreal and brought back terrible memories of this painful awful time in my life trying to protect my own son.
For any other men out there that are stuck in this situation the longer you stick around the worse it gets. For the sake of your children please seek the legal help you need....
